Jiro pulled out his list of things to do and wrote at the very top of the paper with big and bold letters. 'FORM MEANINGFUL RELATIONs.h.i.+PS WITH PEOPLE.' He smiled and put the scroll away before jumping onto Kana's back as they rode into the sky enjoying the time spent together.

Kus.h.i.+na struggled inside a net once more. This time she had been sure she evaded her captors, but she was caught once more. Suddenly wondering why she had never tried earlier, she pulled out a kunai to try and cut the net, but it remained closed. Undeterred, Kus.h.i.+na threw the kunai out of the net and it landed on the roof of a building.
She then formed several hand seals and concentrated before she swapped places with the kunai. Free, she immediately took off towards Jiro's residence.
The man carrying the net suddenly laughed and placed it down. Inside the net was a lone kunai. Further ahead, he could see Kus.h.i.+na running away towards Jiro's house once more, but he didn't bother to chase her. Seeing her succeed also brought a smile to his face. With a cheery tune, he turned back and strolled towards where the lord and lady lived.
Kus.h.i.+na finally arrived in front of the house, but suddenly the door seemed to loom over her. Anxieties she never knew she had came to life and all the doubts hidden in here heart seemed to start spilling out. Despite that, she steeled herself before slowly reaching towards the door to knock on it. Just as her hand reached towards the doorknocker, it opened and there stood her teacher.
However, the once intimidating air about him was much more subdued and instead of seeming like a dangerous person, he seemed to be much more friendly. Unfortunately for Kus.h.i.+na, friendly would have been how Jiro's close friends would describe him. In her eyes, he was just a tad bit less scary. Not knowing what to say, she stood staring and silent.
Jiro on the other hand felt much more relaxed than he had in a long time. Spending time with Kana just enjoying each other's presence made him much more open in subtle ways only close friends would notice. However, seeing his silent student puzzled him. He distinctly remembered her being much more energetic and willing to take risks. Despite his confusion, Jiro held the door open and invited Kus.h.i.+na inside.
"Aren't you coming in?"
"Y-y-yes."
Kus.h.i.+na entered with confidence, but it instantly seemed to wilt in the face of her teacher.
Sitting at the end of a table, Kus.h.i.+na was intensely staring at a cup in her hand and the plate of dango in front of her was untouched. Jiro was already onto his sixth stick of them and he lazily watched her with curiosity and interest.
"Come on Kus.h.i.+na, you can do this. All you have to do is ask him to begin teaching you. You got this, it's going to be a piece of cake."
Kus.h.i.+na finally looked up and got ready to speak, but as Jiro's eyes were trained on her, her body began to stiffen up. With a final burst of energy, she finally broke past the subtle Genjutsu Jiro had her under and confidently spoke.
"Pleased to meet you sensei. Please teach me well."
After her short introduction, she bowed towards Jiro who was already standing.
Smiling, Jiro began his first lesson verbally.
"Kus.h.i.+na, what are the three main types of Jutsu besides Fuinjutsu?"
"Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, and Genjutsu... oh. Did you put me under a Genjutsu sensei?"
"You fell for it too easily. As the student of the best Genjutsu user in the Leaf Village, you must definitely not fall under a Genjutsu. Also, Genjutsu training is a good way to increase your sensitivity to Chakra in general which is always a good thing. One more thing. Before we begin teaching you, I'm going to bring over another student I have."
"Does that mean I can go to Konoha as well?!"
As Kus.h.i.+na started to jump around in excitement, Jiro answered with the answer she wanted to hear.
"Yep. Let's get going right now. However, we first have to pick up Kana."
Kus.h.i.+na was instantly interested in meeting Kana. Her name meant 'powerful' so Kus.h.i.+na was hoping to see something amazing from Kana.
With a poof, Jiro and Kus.h.i.+na were inside the realm of the eagles. Kus.h.i.+na was noticed by many, but ignored as they saw Jiro next to her. Up in the sky, two blurs were colliding at speeds that sent ripples of wind down towards the tree where Jiro and Kus.h.i.+na were located.
Kus.h.i.+na could only see occasional blurs when Kana and the other eagle slowed down, but Jiro could see that it was Sora and Kana. However, Sora was already looking tired and his once pristine, white feathers were slightly scorched. A faint green glow was surrounding him and he looked ready for more. However, Kana looked different. She was covered in fire Chakra and releasing flames from all parts of her body.
The air around her seemed to s.h.i.+mmer about as the heat from the flames disturbed the flow. Sora suddenly tried to speed away, but it was too late as an enormous plume of fire engulfed him. He flew upwards in a corkscrew and broke out of the flames, but Kana crashed into him with her claws outstretched.
Sora desperately flapped his wings trying to loosen Kana's grip in any way, but her claws were locked in. The duo crashed into an empty tree which soon rumbled and began to fall. With a crash, dust was released everywhere and Kana stood on top of Sora with wings spread and fire still flowing off her body.
Kus.h.i.+na didn't gasp as her mouth was completely wide. The dominating image of Kana screeching triumphantly over the downed body of Sora was engraved into her mind. With a push of her wings, Kana suddenly disappeared from the sight of Kus.h.i.+na. Suddenly in front of her was a tame image of Kana who was being rubbed on the head by Jiro.
"Meet Kana, Kus.h.i.+na."
Kus.h.i.+na approached Kana with eagerness in her eyes.
"May I pet you Kana?"
All she got was a rough rebuff by the form of a wing smacking her lightly. However, using the force of the wing, Kus.h.i.+na rolled back and somehow managed to stand up despite being dazed from the smack on her head. Jiro rapped Kana on the head.
"Behave."
Despite his admonis.h.i.+ng tone, a big grin was on his face as well. Kus.h.i.+na noticed that and frowned at him.
"Your smile is saying the opposite, ya know!"
As soon as she covered her mouth in instant regret, a teasing smile came over Jiro's face.
"You got a verbal tic? You should fix it, ya know." Kus.h.i.+na let out a frustrated scream and started chasing Jiro in frustration, but he was always one step ahead of her. By the time she stopped, she was so tired that the top of the tree looked like a nice place to sleep. She wanted to ask Jiro if they could rest, but her inner pride and anger from his joking prevented it from happening.
Jiro noticed her tired appearance as well, but he didn't acknowledge it. He wanted to teach her a valuable lesson that would be very important.
"Let's go."
------------------
As Kana was traveling through the winds with speeds that made everything seem to be a blur to Kus.h.i.+na, she stubbornly refused to tell Jiro she needed help. All of a sudden, there was a turn that was a tad bit too strong for her to hold onto Kana properly. As Kus.h.i.+na's grip began to fail, she tried to say something, but her voice suddenly seemed to fail her.
As she fell off Kana's back, the fear of death finally seemed to reawaken her voice.
"HELP!"
Kus.h.i.+na stared at Jiro's back with tears forming in her eyes when he suddenly disappeared. Kus.h.i.+na was on Kana's back once more or more accurately, being held in Jiro's arms. After a second of disbelief and shock, Kus.h.i.+na began to forlornly cry. Jiro panicked slightly thinking that he might have gone too far and he began to comfort Kus.h.i.+na.
"It's okay. Calm down and take deep breathes Kus.h.i.+na."
After comforting her for a couple more minutes, the crying softened to sniffles before it quickly became the peaceful rise and fall of her chest. Jiro for his part was embarra.s.sed and kind of ashamed. He wanted to teach Kus.h.i.+na that she could rely on him at all times and that a teacher is someone you could trust, but it seems that he went too tough in the beginning.
He mentally noted to study up on ways to truly be a mentor and teacher.
