The annoyed voice of a small girl sounded out as she sat slumped on her chair. In front of her were a stack of papers with equations and questions listed out. The number of pages wasn't a few and they had stacked into quite a pile, but to the person slumped in the chair it was even worse.
The small stack that was a few centimeters high was akin to a mountain in her depressed eyes as she almost wept looking at them.
"Why is there so much homework!!!"
Her expression of despair turned to one of indignation as she shouted out loud and sprung from her chair. Jade was lamenting how much homework her school was giving to her.
"It wasn't like this last year."
Her homework load had been her excuse to get some alone time for when she could play the game, so she had been in her room for the last hour doing it. As this was the second week back to school for her, she was overwhelmed by the increase in work.
Fed up with the work she dived into her bed and pulled out her phone to pa.s.s the time. Another hour went by and just when she was about to get back up and do the rest of her homework, a ding sounded.
*Ding*
A small message appeared on her phone and opened up when she looked at it, the facial recognition going off.
(Your Package has Arrived. Waiting for signature as requested.)
Jade sprung out of her bed as if she had been electrocuted.
"Yes!"
She screamed out loud before rus.h.i.+ng to the door, she was already dressed in clothes to go out in, and had completely forgotten that her package would arrive today. The game had been out for 3 weeks by this point and she would be behind most players, but she didn't care. She would finally be able to play the game!
She shoved her phone into her pocket and rushed down the stairs. She had to control herself from running to fast not to alert anyone that may be pa.s.sing by. Once they asked what she was doing, things could get awkward and hard to explain. So even though she rushed, it was more of a fast walk down the stairs and out to the front.
She was jumping for joy as she skipped to the front door and made her way out and as she opened the door she froze. At the end of the path leading to the driveway was a big van with the logo 'Sim tech' plastered on it.
A man was standing next to the van and had a clipboard out, waiting for a signature. But that wasn't what stopped her in her tracks, it was who was walking just ahead of her and heading towards the man.
HER FATHER!!
Jade felt her heart stop for a second before she rushed out with all her might, not caring about her image.
Had he somehow found out? Was he here to send the person back? Was she going to get punished?
All these thought ran through her head as she started to sweat. It wasn't long before she caught up to her father that had just stopped.
"Dad!"
Surprised by the voice behind him, he turned around with a curious expression. Seeing his cute daughter running up to him in a hurried manner and having frantic eyes, he tilted his head.
"Jade are you ok, what hapened?"
The man holding the clipboard didn't say anything and waited to the side, a rich family like this had to be a big customer, it wasn't good to interrupt them. He wasn't in a rush anyways.
Jade caught her breath for a second as she heard her father's question. Her mind ran a mile a minute as she processed what he just said. Going by his question it didn't seem like he knew! Then why the h.e.l.l was he out here?
She shook her head quickly under the bewildered expression of her father and organized her thoughts.
"No…ummm…. I'm here to pick up a package for Grace. She was busy so I said I would get it for her!"
The father seeing his daughter's weird expression his expression turned suspicious, but hearing it was something ordered by his shopaholic of a daughter, he didn't ask any questions. But maybe he should talk to Grace later about getting one of her sisters to pick up her orders.
Though in the future he would regret the fact that in the end he forgot to ask her about this incident.
Seeing his expression turn tranquil Jade breathed a sigh of relief before looking around and the 2 other people she hadn't seen before. They were at the back of the van and were handling something very big.
Was that a pod?
She had seen the one that Chloe obtained the other week and they looked about the same height and shape. But wasn't her father opposed to using them right now?
"What are you doing out here?"
Her father who had turned away from her and taken the clipboard and was signing something spoke briefly, not thinking too much.
"Ohh I ordered something from their company and it just got in. Whatever Grace ordered might have been bundled in with the delivery."
Because he was distracted by the paper work he was reading over, that described all the procedures involved in installing a pod in his room, he didn't notice the discrepancy in his own sentence.
While it was trued that a company these days might bundle in packages to the same place if they were going through the same delivery company, the van that had showed up and where going to install the pod where from 'Sim Tech' and no one else.
They wouldn't have taken in another package from a different company other than their own; meaning whatever Grace had order would have to be from them as well. Or what jade had ordered to be precise.
But thankfully because of the paper work and his mind drifting off to other important things, not what his shopaholic of a daughter might have bought, he didn't think about it.
Jade that was off to the side saw that her father was in such a daze doing his own thing, moved to the man standing off to the side.
"Order for Grace."
She said it in a meek voice not to wake her father from whatever he was day dreaming about and the man smiled to her. He had a kid around his age and was quite an easy going person. Having heard their conversation from before he knew exactly what she needed.
Moving to the back of the van for a second he came back holding a small box of around 30-40 centimeters. He handed her a piece of paper that she had to sign and showed her where to put her signature.
Jade gave the kind man a smile and signed quickly before her father could finish with all his papers. She then dashed off towards the house, box in grasp. Reaching the door just as she was about to open it, the door was pulled back and in front of her Grace now stood.
She had a happy expression on her face wearing another set of designer clothes. Jade had no clue what she was happy about, or where she was going, but she almost had a seizure.
Why would she come out now!
'Holy d.a.m.n!!!'
She screamed in her mind as she looked at her sister that was coming out, if she went out now and saw their father, maybe even talked to him, all her planning and waiting would come to naught!
Her brain kicked into overdrive again as she moved in front of her. Grace looked down at jade in surprise as her sister had suddenly blocked her path. Jade looked completely red in the face and had a teary expression crossed with a frown, as if she was thinking of something really hard.
Her eyes were staring straight into Grace's and she was taken aback for a second. What the h.e.l.l was happening?
She was about to go out off on a shopping trip and had just run into Jade now, was she alright?
Before she could say anything, Jade tackled into her and pulled her by the hand with all of her strength. Grace was taken aback by the sudden move and was dragged along back into the house. Once inside Jade turned to look out the door, making sure their father hadn't seen anything and quickly closed it.
Grace was baffled about what was happening.
"Ummmm... Mum was looking for you before, I think it was important. Yes that's right! You should go find her now!"
"What?"
"Go, go, go, go!"
Thinking of an excuse as fast as she could jade blurted out her reasons and ushered for her sister to go look for their mother. Grace was stunned by the outburst and her forceful words, before she dumbly nodded her head.
Turning away from the scary look her sister was giving her, she moved off to look for her mother. Something was weird about Jade right now, and she was really insistent about it.
Turning and walking away she just shook her head a small notion popping up.
Is it that time of the month?
She just shook her head and went off, it wouldn't impact her shopping spree by much, maybe a few minutes. Of course very soon she would find out that her mother didn't want to speak to her, and had no clue what she was talking about.
This confused her even more, but she put it to the back of her head, she had dealt with many a sisters outburst before. She wouldn't concern herself about it.
Jade stared at the back that was moving further and further into the mansion, finally breathed a sigh of relief and almost flopped to the ground, she was exhausted for some reason. But she knew it wasn't the right time for this, she needed to get to her room and hide the box.
She looked down at the package in her hands. This was the final piece of the puzzle. A huge grin appeared on her face as she scurried up to her room and locked the door, placing the package under her bed.
The plan might not have gone smoothly, but it had worked out in the end.
She fist pumped in the air and struck a victory pose before flopping on to the bed.
She was dead tired.
