I watch as Hunter drifted about the field. I sat atop his merchant cart as he filtered about. Just a minute ago he turned to me and discreetly pointed to the right, not giving anything away I gave a small nod and watched as he soon disappeared from my sight.
It was slightly unnerving that I couldn't figure out how he did that, it wasn't something to do with 'Stealth', I had tried to see through it with 'Spirit vision' once. He was there and then he was gone. I had asked him about it once but he didn't say anything, I could respect secrecy.
We had become sort of friends by this point in our journey; we were only a few hours away from the town. He had to do the disappearing act quite a few times over the day. See, as a rogue he had an in-depth knowledge about scouts, and people trying to follow him, it also helped that he ran away from bandits all the time. Or that's what he told me.
So when he caught sight of a few scouts trying to watch us he gave me a small heads up before going to kill them. The bandits that we had been facing started to thin out a day ago and that was at the same time that these 'scouts', appeared. I didn't think it was a coincidence.
His skills were nothing to joke about, just watching now I could see that he was experience. But I guess that would be expected from a person who grew up in a world with a system.
Who knew how long he had trained to be a rouge and the other skills that he might have picked up along the way. I couldn't help myself as I used a.n.a.lyze on him once again.
Name: Hunter
Race: Human
s.e.x: Male
Age: ??
Level: 30
Cla.s.s: Rouge,???
This wasn't the first time, heck it wasn't even the fifth time I had checked him out, but still nothing. I guess it was time to finally ask him about it.
Finally in front of us Hunter dodged a wide swipe and moved in close.
*Shlick*
His dagger punctured through the leather armour that the bandit was wearing and the body dropped to the ground. Pulling the dagger out Hunter stepped back making sure not to get any blood on his clothes. Done with that he picked up the globe that dropped and moved onto getting the gear.
In a short while he came back to sit next to me.
Nothing was said for a while as we moved on and continued on our way. Letting the silence settle in for a while I finally brought up the subject.
"So Hunter, why can't I see the rest of your cla.s.ses?"
Hunter turned to me but kept the cart going. His face turned to one of wonder, a look I had been getting more often lately. And with that look came the same response over and over again.
"What the h.e.l.l were you doing in your world? Living under a rock?"
He said it in such a genuine way that it was hard to tell he was joking.
I gave my obligatory sigh as I waited for him to continue. Seeing that he wouldn't get a rise out of me today he smiled and explained.
"Well it's because of this."
He raised his arm up and I saw a bracelet that I hadn't seen on him before. It was dangling just below his glove and was slightly tucked under it so that it wouldn't dislodge.
"This is a piece of equipment with one of the most useful skills ever…"
He held his breath for tension and I rolled my eyes at his antics. I could just feel Ella and Rose that were sitting in the back also moving closer for the explanation. Thought they could have tapped into our connection to hear it.
"Concealment!"
He put on a smug look waiting for my reaction, but like he had found out over the week I wasn't usually that responsive. Mainly cause I didn't actually know what he was talking about though. This 'Concealment' skill wasn't mentioned in any of the books in the library it must have been taken by that other person, if it is such a known skill.
"Concealment is a skill that helps conceal stats, cla.s.ses, races and basically anything that can show up in a status. But of course that type is very expensive. The one I have on was costly enough, and it only blocks out my cla.s.ses."
His eyes nearly started to bleed as he mentioned the price of the concealment skill. That was when I knew it must be expensive, having talked to him for a while now, I knew that he dealt with millions of EP every day, and he was still almost crying blood!
"But that's enough when you are in a fight. Only knowing that I'm a rogue severely limits the knowledge about what I could do."
"Some of the really high level people will have concealment gear that blocks everything. With that, all opponents have to guess when fighting. I heard it was a necessity if you were to fight in an arena!"
I filed that little arena comment for later, could be interesting.
"I would help you get some if I had any in stock, but they don't usually sell outside of towns, and you couldn't afford them."
He put on a sad smile as he talked because that's just who Hunter is. Having spent the week with him, I can tell he was really pa.s.sionate about his job, and having become friends with us all, he really wanted to help us out where he could.
Even though we were strangers he treated everyone in the group nicely. Nice enough that some of my inhibitions about him had faded away.
I just shook my head slightly at his sad expression and patted his shoulder. I decided while he still had his hand out I would have a quick look at it with my 'Spirit Vision' Just to see if it was different in anyway because of the skill.
"Don't worry about it."
Hunter looked at me while I was looking down at the bracelet and I felt him freeze. Feeling this I looked up and he just had a dumbfounded look as he stared into my eyes. My brows furrowed as I stopped using 'Spirit vision'.
"What?"
He didn't respond for a few seconds before his face became super serious.
"Don't ever use that skill again in public."
My face hardened at the words. He was talking about 'Spirit Vision'.
"What you have there is a super rare skill, something that will get most people killed."
I slowly pulled back my hand from his shoulder as I felt Ella flare her aura from the back. Hunter looked over at her who was getting furious at his words, but shook his head sadly, turning back to me.
"I wouldn't kill you, but many would. You see if someone kills you and takes your eyes, they can gain your skill. And trust me it is one of the rarest, basically negates my stealth skill and something rarely ever seen. I would ask you were you got it, but it wouldn't matter."
I don't think this was a good time to mention that this was an innate skill I had acquired so I kept quiet.
Hunter just continued to look at me solemnly.
"Just be careful."
He said those words to me before turning back to the road. My guard shot up once again towards the merchant as I decided to hop off the front and move to the back. With my body and stats I could easily jump back on.
His words had truly worried me. I had never thought of my 'Spirit Vision' skill as anything abnormal, but now it might just put us in trouble. And we already had a number of things that could get us in trouble. I was thankful that Hunter told me about the rarity of the skill and gave me a warning; it showed that he was looking out for me.
But I still couldn't fully trust him yet, that's why I moved to the back.
But first things first, I had to get some gear with the 'Concealment' Skill. Ella stuck out like a sore thumb already, but it was truly her being a demon that would cause us trouble. We better fix that as soon as possible. Not to mention I would also need it.
We continued in silence as we road onto the city.
