I swallowed at the suddenness of the situation, my throat felt sticky, it almost tasted like the cordial I had in my dream. No I had more important things to think about.

Refocusing on Ella I organized my thoughts somewhat, but when I spoke I still stuttered.

"E – e - Ella you can speak now?"

Ella smiled happily and nodded. As if it wasn't that big of a deal, when did she learn that?

"And you understand what I'm saying?"

She nodded again. Seeing that, I finally asked the most important question on my mind right now.

"Why did you call me father?"

She looked perplexed by my question, as if she didn't understand it. I asked her again to make sure, but she kept the confused expression. I gave her time to figure out what to say.

"But you are Father."

She replied as if stating a fact. It was now my turn to be perplexed, when did I ever become her father??!

I calmed down my exploding thoughts and looked back at Ella, who was still giving me a questioning gaze. My question just didn't make sense to her.

Maybe the imprint makes it so that she thinks I'm her father? Kin does mean family, I had always thought brother, but as I was the first person she ever saw. It must have imprinted onto her that I was her father. All this time she saw me as a father, why would she think of me as a brother?

I gave a hollow laugh at my thoughts, but I needed to correct this now. Looking at a person that is about my age, calling me 'father' is quite weird. And I really see her as a sister, not my daughter. I looked at her kindly and spoke to her in a gentle voice.

"Look Ella, I'm not your father"

As my words came out she had a sh.e.l.l shocked expression and started to panic. She gripped onto me tightly and started shouting out.

"No Father is Father!"

"Father will never change!"

"Does father not want to be with Ella anymore?!?!"

"No don't leave! Stay as Father!!!"

She started crying hysterically and bawling her eyes out. Oh c.r.a.p. I could have worded that better; this was getting out of hand.

The dependence she has on me seems unnatural. I meant to say that I want her to be my sister or something along those lines.

I tried to calm her down as I re-worded what I had just said, trying to explain.

"Wait, No, Ella, I didn't mean it like that!"

"I meant to say, I want you to call me brother instead of father"

"I'm not going to leave you! Seriously I swear!"

She finally calmed down when I said I wouldn't be leaving, but wouldn't loosen her grip. I patted her head until she was more stable, and then said it again.

"What I wanted to say to you is. I want you to call my brother. I want you as my sister."

She looked up at me and shook her head.

"No Father is Father, not Brother"

I sighed; and then tried asking her to call me brother a few more times.

"Brother?"

She said it once before shaking her head and calling me father again. I had a lot more work to do to get her to change. I decided to give up for now and ask about what happened before.

"Ella what happened to the wolves?"

She gave me a questioning stare.

"Wolves?"

Right she doesn't know what wolves are. I thought for a second, before moving my scared shoulder over. Pointing towards it.

"The Wolves did this"

Ella stared at my scared shoulder and frowned. I saw her grit her teeth in anger, before sadness flashed through her eyes, as she lightly touched the scar marks.

"The insects."

Insects?

"Yes the insects..... But they are called wolves"

"Wolves?"

She confirmed my words and seemed to chew on them, etching them into her memory.

"I punished the insec… wolves"

"Punished?"

"Yes I got rid of them, for hurting father!"

Them?!?

"Where their more wolves after I went and… slept?!"

"Yes more of those things came in and tried to hurt father, so I took care of them"

I rea.s.sessed Ella as she spoke. Her voice was cold as she mentioned the wolves, almost like she was a different person. And she was still smaller when I fell unconscious, how did she take care of them?

"How did you take care of them?"

"I made them still, and then punished them. Meals should know their place! Now they don't have the honor of being a meal again!"

What she was saying made me even more confused. Meals? What the h.e.l.l is she talking about? I was almost afraid to ask her, but I did.

"Meal?"

"Meals are things to be eaten!"

That didn't help me very much, but I think I knew what she meant.

"The infected?"

She gave me a blank look again.

"The people you usually eat."

I gave her a few descriptions of what I meant, and she then nodded her head back and forth excitedly. Ok, now I know what she was talking about.

"Yes the things with black shade in them."

"Black shade?"

"Yes the thing you don't like to eat. You don't have any in you, unlike the rest."

I don't have them in me? Is she talking about the infection? As if happy to be talking to me, she continued to ramble on.

"That's how I punished the Wolves, I controlled the black shade."

A bolt of lightning flashed through my mind. It was the Ruler skill that helps one control one's species! She was able to affect the infection in their body, to control them. Meaning because I'm not infected she can't control me.

I was slightly relieved, I know I shouldn't be worried about Ella, but her not being able to influence me, set my mind at ease. I decided to take a peek at Ella's status; to see how much had changed. I could also determine roughly how much time I had been out.

Wow, ruler had leveled up to level 3. She must have used it a lot during the time I was out. Not to mention that imprint went up a level. I didn't feel different with the change, but it would affect me somehow I'm sure.

Her attributes had also taken a huge jump. It was almost broken, all her main stats where 20 or really close. She was even faster than me. Her luck had also increased, which was the most surprising fact.

Looking at the time she had been alive, I was able to calculate I had been out for quite a few hours. She was 1 day old when we went out before, and now it showed 2. I couldn't be sure about the exact time that had pa.s.sed, but it was probably close to a full day.

What happened in that time, after the wolves? I mean she also dragged me back here and put me to bed.

After staring at the status screen for a while, I turned to Ella with a kind look. She had done a lot for me this time. It would have been tough. I patted her head gently as I asked her what had happened.

She was happy about the kins.h.i.+p and excitedly started to talk about her adventures. She had already mentioned the killing of the wolves, which still surprised me, and then moved on to taking me up the stairs.

She would stop every now and then, and I gave her praise each time before she would continue. She really wanted me to praise her for her efforts. She talked about putting me to sleep and how, she fed me water and tried to feed me food, but nothing would work.

I sympathized with her at that point; it would have been stressful for her. She then talked about going to find me a meal. I just shook my head at that; I wouldn't be able to eat any infected, though it did shock me when she mentioned getting me a meal, so I quickly asked her if she tried to feed me an infected.

She shook her head back and forth and said she knew I didn't like to eat normal meals. I let lose a breath of air at the words. Thank G.o.d, that could have turned out so much worse. She continued to talk and wait for praise.

The description of events where surprising though, her ruler ability, was very powerful. It didn't get to s.h.i.+ne a lot, as she only ran in to one more infected. It seemed that a whole floor had been emptied already.

Maybe another survivor?

But with what she had told me, her control and ability to stop the infected, made it a simple feat to kill the ones she met. This would be very helpful later. Maybe we could clear the floors faster now. I started to s.p.a.ce out a little and plan for the future as she continued her story.

"So after having the meal I continued to look for yours and as I was going through the next floor, I finally found it!"

I snapped out of my day dreaming and whipped my head around to Ella. She had an expectant expression on her face and was waiting for praise once again. But I couldn't praise her right now, I was panicking inside.

What does she mean, 'found my meal'?

"Ella What meal!"

I didn't mean to shout but I was getting a bad feeling. Before when she mentioned me not eating meals she said, I "Don't eat the normal meals", I didn't notice it when she said it before. But thinking back now, it was almost like she put importance on the "normal".

I swallowed my saliva again and noticed the cordial feeling in my throat. It was making me apprehensive.

Ella seemed to be afraid of my raised voice and spoke in a quiet voice of what happened next.

"I found your meal, it was perfect for you."

"How was it perfect?! What happened?!"

She shrunk herself even more and talked almost at a whisper.

"It didn't have any black haze, just like Father."

I paled as she continued to talk on. She went faster as if afraid I would shout more.

"The meal was clean like father and also clever like father. They barricaded the door like father. But I reached them anyways."

She became bolder as she continued and I stayed pale.

"But it was a disobedient meal! It wouldn't follow me back to feed father, it even tried to attack me!"

She gave me a pitiful look as she motioned towards her arm.

"It even injured me. So I hurt it back!"

My face grew paler as I was screaming in my head, for what I think is happening, to not be true.

NO.

Please No!

Ella saw my pale face and grew more confidence saying as if to rea.s.sure me.

"I hurt the meal by hurting its arm as well. I also had to discipline it quite a lot. But I made sure to keep it fresh and alive! I didn't damage the meal too much!"

"After it learnt its place, I brought it to father, it was very annoying on the way so I had to continue the training."

She tugged on my arm slightly but I couldn't respond.

"I know it wasn't a good meal, but I had to feed you father. You needed the nutrition."

My sense's suddenly gathered on my throat and I felt the sweetness of the cordial, and started to realize the truth.

"Once the meal was up here and next to father, it was disobedient for a bit saying things like 'father is human, just like it'. It was going too far! Father is so much more than it! So I shut it up."

"Because I know you couldn't eat a lot of the good parts and only drink liquid, I could only feed you its blood!"

"Don't worry I checked myself, it was very delicious!"

I finally let go of Ella and stiffly reached towards my throat.

"I didn't spill a drop for you and gave it till you were full"

Ella looked proud as she stood in front of me with a smile.

"Because the meal did such a good job, I gave it the highest honor of being a meal!"

"I didn't leave a single piece; I even absorbed all the blood. It was so happy when it was finally eaten."

I could barely hear her at this point, my mind was in disarray. She suddenly appeared in front of me and handed me something.

"Don't worry I saved the s.h.i.+ny globe for you, I know you like them."

My eyes focused on the globe and its information appeared.

My hand clenched as my mind shot with waves of pain I had never felt before. My other hand seemed to dig into my throat.
