Chapter 41: Living Conditions

It was a bigger building than the rest and easily stood out. It was about 6 times bigger than the other houses. Compared to the black smith shop, this one was way bigger. Maybe not in height, but in land ma.s.s it covered a lot.

Other than that, it was also segregated from the rest of the houses; it was instantly recognizable as a special place. Once we spotted it, which was nearer to the outskirts than the middle of the city, our alertness shot up.

We quietly made our way over to take a look inside and that was when we started to notice the other things.

Even before we made it into the building the surroundings of the place were dark. The ground was literally darker than the rest of the area. The gra.s.s had died off and turned a slight tinge of black. Mounds were dug up to fill holes and other areas. I could even see a small pile of manure to the back of the building.

Did they raise animals here?

It was the first thought that appeared in my head, as I looked at the manure pile near the back. That was what farmers did some times. You could use it as fertilizer to help the gra.s.s grow. I don't know why the gra.s.s had been affected, but it was a likely hood. The bigger building also led me to think that this would be the case.

This would have to have someone in it right?

We made our way closer as the smell of the manure made me want to clog my nose. I may have seen dead bodies and the like, but that still didn't make it smell better. I gave myself a weary smile on the inside as I reached for the door.

I had Ella and Kuro stand back just in case and slowly turned the k.n.o.b. The doors had normal handles for people to open them; so did all the other buildings I had run into. It was quite convenient. It seems that the elves weren't too behind in culture and technology.

It was as I was having this thought, that I opened the door into the very dark building. An ominous presence swept over me as I peered in, but couldn't see anything. And that was when I froze. Kuro and Ella seeing that nothing was wrong also moved closer. But Ella stopped way before reaching me as her face turned pale.

*Blurgh*

Kuro who didn't notice this came and stood beside me, who couldn't move. I think my body trembled a bit, as I vomited. It was by reflex that I gagged everything that I had in my stomach. I couldn't help it as the smell was that bad. I thought that the smell of manure was bad from the outside and away from us.

But when I opened the door, it was 100 times worse. It wasn't a compet.i.tion. It was like a physical hit to me. Ella who had a better sense of smell must have been able to tell from such a distance.

*Blurgh*

Kuro, who was beside me now, also got the full brunt of the smell and started to vomit.

What the h.e.l.l was this!

I had walked in on a d.a.m.n cannibal's home grounds and seen dead and rotting zombies, but this was too much. I almost slammed the door as I bent over.

It took me a while to gain my composure again and I swiped the remains from my mouth. My face hardened as I thought about what could be inside; I still couldn't make anything out. I gripped my fist as I decided to go in.

Ella who had also finally recovered gathered her resolve and made her way over. I could feel her discomfort as she got closer and closer. I grabbed her shoulder as she made it too me and I took a short breath.

Kuro also regained herself and I could hear her cursing about the smell. I didn't blame her.

We walked inside.

Inside was only lit with the small light that came behind me. The building was a huge area with nothing in it. No beds, chairs, blankets, nothing. There was only the dead ground that was below and a small roof above. I honestly had no clue how the air escaped from the place, as I saw no place for air to leave.

Being this restricted it was no wonder the smell could build up so much. And I could finally make out where the smell was coming from. It was all over. I could see dampened imprints of human bodies and small holes that filled the area.

Whoever was in here was using the holes as their toilets. There was still stuff in them. They were right next to where the imprints were. They had slept next to their own toilets. There were dozens and dozens of these imprints and holes.

I realized that the manure outside had all come from in here. I was off with the animal guess, but it was so much worse. My heart grew cold as the air around me cooled. I recognized that human beings had been in here.

It was akin to being in a small tin can in humid weather. Add in the fact that the toilets were right next to you, it would have been h.e.l.l. I could also detect other smells in here and finally saw some blankets to the side. They looked sticky and they had substances slathered all over them, with me instantly realizing what it was.

I felt the urge to puke again, as I smelt what they were emanating. I was afraid to go further in, but my cold heart told me to continue. My eyes were fixated on the conditions that were in here. I thought back to the group of rag tag people that had left this morning.

What had these elf b.a.s.t.a.r.ds done!?

And it was only when I was getting near the back, that I realized the true extent of the cruelty that was this building. In the back were 2 huge pits, that I couldn't tell how deep they were. My eyes closed slowly as I felt them turn red.

The 2 huge pits were filled to the brim with s.h.i.+t and p.i.s.s and were the worst in the whole building, what really rammed what was happening home, was when I noticed the body pieces sticking out of the pile. My heart broke as I looked at the flailed and broken arms and I even caught a head that was half buried in the pile.

They had just been chucked in here after what ever had happened. There were small body parts and big body parts, it could be seen that all ages had been in this place.

I had no sympathy for the elves to begin with, but this was too far.

Kuro had fallen to her knees, down before the pits, and looked at the spectacle with red eyes, the same as me. She was crying and didn't mind that her knees had been splashed with the wet mud that was on the ground. It was probably mixed with other things.

At least she knows what's right and what's wrong. I thought back to what happened the other night and the other times I had talked to her. I couldn't help but to speak to her as she stared unblinkingly at this place.

"These are the elves that you wanted to befriend when they had attacked you."

She stiffly turned her neck towards me.

"I know you knew nothing about this. But this is reality; people who attack you on sight, aren't nice."

I took a deep breath and burned the image in front of me in to my mind.

"And they may be capable of anything!"

I a.s.serted the last words and looked back at her. I saw her eyes tear up, as she stared back at the pile and nodded her head slowly. She understood the significance; she understood the gravity of what this was. She took it all and sorted her priorities.

She could still learn.

I turned from her to look at Ella, who was at the side and she stared back at me. She had looked at the pile and I could feel he anger.

"Brother. No meal should be treated like this. No meal should be dirtied like this."

She turned to the pile.

"We have to teach the things that did this. That this is not okay."

I could only pat her head slowly and let her understand the situation in her own way.

We stood there for a while before I tore my eyes away and grabbed them to walk out. We shouldn't look at something like that too long. My heart was cold as I made my way out of the building.

If I was right and the people that left this morning had to live in such a condition, I could only feel pity for them.

My hatred for the elves hadn't actually grown. I wasn't angry at them; I was purely and utterly disgusted with them.

After witnessing that, I would spare none of them for sure.

Both me and Ella had our anger build and we just walked towards the center of the town. We didn't check the buildings anymore. We just wanted to kill them at this moment.

Our auras buildings, as we made our way closer and closer.

Like the other town they had a city center. As we caught sight of this city center, with its small pillar that denoted where you could change cla.s.ses, we finally caught up with the elves. A small army was standing there and looking in our direction.

They had been waiting.

Huge treants were at the front of the group and were facing in our direction. A small dais was in the middle of the group in front of the pillar and had a stoic looking elf standing there. He was decked out in metal armour looking at us. It was different from our enhanced armour.

Next to him was a 2 meter tall lady that was dressed in a hood that cut off at her midriff. She held an old staff that looked like a tree branch in her hand and had green hair peeking off her shoulders. She had a brown skin color that was like the color of a tree.

I was focusing on her a bit more, than the prudish elf that had a smug look on her face, as my spirit vision had activated pa.s.sively. I could see that she was connected to the treants.

The treants had been helping me.

But whose side was she on, really?

Well I would find out soon. I got my weapons ready as Ella also knocked her bow. Kuro, who was with us, also gave a very determined expression. I could feel her anger towards the elves; she had been affected by what she had seen.

I used a.n.a.lyze on the elf to gauge the general fight we were about to have.

Name: Leon

Race: Elf

s.e.x: Male

Age: 568

Level: 18

Job: Mage

Earth Mage

Well this would be a bit tougher. My cold mind calculated the risk, and determined that it was worth it. I really wanted to kill these elves at the minute. I couldn't help myself this time.

It was then that Leon Talked.
