'So she read in a book that a man will feel longing if they don't see their love interest for a long period of time. So princess Momo decided to stop seeing him with out warning. I felt bad for the man and secretly went to see him when I saw that princess Momo was in deep sleep. I ran so hard to try and beat the sun rising. When I broke through the forest I was panting so hard. Then I saw him...'
.....
Xue had broken out into a sweat, she was doubled over. She could barely control her panting. Snakes were resilient but they avoided going out during the winter season. As they were cold blooded by nature Xue had to wrap the vital parts of her body with heat packs and cloth bindings. It may have be excessive but she didn't want to slip into hibernation while trying to look for the princess's lover.
When Xue finaly caught her breath she looked up and forgot to breath. It was a creature she had never seen before. His skin was fair like freshly fallen snow, black eyes that resembled the night sky, hair that waved and was darker then the skin of the black snakes from her clan. He had partially tied back his hair with small braids along the side of his head while the other half laid loosey on the side of his face. His lips were small and thin but they had an alluring red colour to them that Xue couldn't help but be drawn in.
"Ah, you are the one that is always with princess Momo." The man said as he looked around. Xue blushed, she dropped her gaze to the man's chest. Xue instanlty regretted her action, she could see that his chest was broad, he wore a deep blue tunic with thick, white fur lining the trim of his clothes. He wore a matching wide sleeve overcoat. The outfit made him look wild and elegant at the same time. "h.e.l.lo?" The man called out gently.
Xue snaped back from her daze and brought up her gaze to the man. She instantly became fl.u.s.tered and averted her gaze. "I'm sorry princess Momo is sick she won't be abe to come and see you for a while." Xue said with a red face. "Is it bad?" The man asked. "Her body is very delicate and the winter season causes her to become bed ridden. Please don't be too concerned she will come see you when she gets better." Xue said as she bowed.
"I have delivered the message and will take me leave!" Xue shouted a little too loudy. "Okay." The man said. Xue was mortified. She quickly raised her head and turned to leave. "WAIT!" The man shouted causing Xue to freeze. Xue looked back and the man and he seemed fl.u.s.tered. "I will keep coming back like always. If the princess can't come... do you mind coming instead?" The man asked.
Xue wasn't sure what to say. For a few heartbeats Xue stood there looking at the man. "Please?" He pleaded desperately. Xue looked down and played with the tips of her fingers. "...Okay." She replied as she brought her gaze back up. The man looked positively delighted causing Xue to become breathless once again. "My name is Chang Bai. Bai is my first name so pease call me Bai." The man said with a blus.h.i.+ng face.
Xue blinked a few times and watched as the man became more fl.u.s.tered. "Bai... Bai." She said as a smile appeared on her face. "What a lovely name. My name is Xue." She said then ran away leaving Bai dumbstruck.
For the rest of the winter season Xue visited Bai. They talked about anything and everything. Bai never a.s.sked about her background or why she was working for he princess but Xue didn't care. He instead asked about her day and how she was feeling. They soon started to exchange information with each other about their worlds and started to increase ther visits with eachother. Soon they were practically seeing eachother every night.
Xue never felt so happy. Soon enough Xue started to daydream about Bai when the princess left her outside in the cold during her cla.s.ses or when she was visiting friends. Soon the winter season was ending and Xue started to get nervous. "Xue..." Princess Momo called out one day. Xue fumbled with the embroidery homework the princess's tutor had given the princess earlier. "Yes my princess?" Xue replied as calmly as she could.
"I think I have made my love wait for me long enough. Make sure preparations are set so I can see my lover this coming Thursday." Princess Momo commanded. Xue's heart dropped. The last three months were a dream for her, it made working for the princess tolerable. Now it was all going to end and she had to now sit on the sidelines as the prinecess spent time with Bai. "How would you like me to notify your lover?" Xue asked in a humble but distant voice.
"Deliver this letter to our usual meeting spot. If you tie it around a tree with this ribbon he will know it is from me." Princess Xue said as she pulled out a scroll from the sleeve of her mint green hanfu. "Yes my princess. I will go when the time is right." Xue said as she took the scroll then bowed. "Good." Princess Momo replied. The rest of the day Xue spent in utter misery.
