Early in the morning, Chris saw someone dropping an envelope into their mailbox. While rubbing the morning glory off of his eyes, he strode towards it and checked the letter deposited there. His drowsy eyes widened when he saw the name, actually names, written at the back.

From: Wendy
To: Chris

A frown immediately appeared on his face as he stared at the sky blue envelope in his hand.

'Because I blocked her in social media and text messenger, she mailed it?'

His face became gloomy.

To be honest, he really didn't want any more involvement with her. She was too much of a trouble, even without factoring in her relations.h.i.+p with that two-faced unreasonable host. Even if he took that out of the equation, the system inside his head was also no joke. He had to constantly guard up against it since if he becomes a little bit weak-willed for a few seconds, he'd surely end up becoming a rapist.

Given these reasons, who could blame him for badly wanting not to ever get involved with that annoying woman?

Is he bad if he said he really wants to set her letter on fire?

Whatever. Him moving away with his family was already finalized so he would really have no more contact with her and her semi-lunatic friend.

Thankfully, his parents were very supportive of his decision. They said they also wanted him to move on so they immediately agreed with his request. Actually, he was guessing they couldn't stand their son's drastic change in behavior anymore thus they reckoned maybe a change in environment would help.

To this, he was really very grateful. He was very grateful that his parents were people who loved to fill in the blanks for things they don't understand. Due to this, he could keep the other major reason for his decision to himself - that he also just wanted to keep his distance from mysterious and fatally dangerous individuals that wreak havoc everywhere as their pastime.

Today was the day they would visit their new home at Jasper City. Yesterday, the doc.u.ments from HCA had already been approved and all they had to do was move their stuff to their new home and submit his requirements to his new academy. They planned to accomplish all of this today. Starting this day, he would no longer be going to HCA.

"Son, come, breakfast is ready!" shouted his forty-seven-year-old mom to him.

When he turned his head to his direction, he saw her waving a hand at him from the doorway. He nodded to her after wordlessly pocketing the small envelope. Then he crossed the lawn and walked side by side with her towards the small dining area.

Along the way, his mother kept asking whether he had already packed everything he needed and if he had already said his goodbye to his friends and cla.s.smates... The faint sadness that appeared on his mother's face did not escape his notice. And he was sure that the cause was his very short and unfeeling responses to the questions she asked with concern and worry.

Chris eventually looked away so that she wouldn't see the lack of change in his face.

He thought, if he was still the old Chris and he noticed even the slightest hint of sorrow from his parents' faces or voices, he would already be busy apologizing and promising compromises by now.

A nonsensical remark echoed from within his mind.

He had long gone back to ignoring the stupid system so he didn't reply. With a bowed head, he took his seat at the edge of the table and started having breakfast with his parents.

Half an hour later, after helping them wash the dishes, he dried his hands using the towel hanging from the edge of the dish rack. When he walked out of the kitchen, his parents were already on the lawn deciding which stuff or furniture to drop into the truck. Meanwhile, he went back to his room and freshened up. Then after changing his clothes to a casual set, he remembered the letter sent to him by the annoying girl. He had to rummage the dirty clothes in the laundry basket just to find the envelope.

This slight trouble made his already unsmiling face gloomier.

He tore the side of the envelope and pulled up the folded piece of paper inside. After opening it, whether to tell him it still has other purposes other than to talk sh*t to his brain, the system began reading its content for him. But the last thing he needed while reading was a voice irritating the heck out of him. Naturally, its action earned his ire as he could perfectly read by himself.

He didn't know if that girl had finally come back to her senses and realized that he was purposely putting distance between them. But in the letter, she apologized and wished his family a safe trip. The only thing unappreciated was her postscripts which states the contacts of some local police officers at Jasper City that he could reach out if ever he wanted to help the police again.

He shook his head and threw the letter somewhere in his room. Afterward, with a huge backpack on his back, he went out of the place to join his parents who were busy loading the rented truck with their stuff.

Of course, the unbound system still h.e.l.l-bent on impressing him said it was okay to throw the letter away because it had already saved the message in his memory bank.

At this point, Chris did not continue pretending he couldn't hear it.

He sighed and stated, 'I will reluctantly acknowledge you as the nicest of your bunch. But, b.a.s.t.a.r.d, I'm already moving away. There's no chance I'll become your host, and you know it. So when are you going to leave my brain?'

"Son, come, help me carry your mom's was.h.i.+ng machine over there," his father's voice rang before he heard the system's reply. He obediently did as told after leaving his huge backpack in the pa.s.senger seat.

The system in his head went silent for so long and by the time he heard it speak again, five more appliances had already been transported over by him.

'Yeah.'

His forehead creased, its tone already informed him it would be saying something unwelcomed and unpleasant.

'I'm not forcing you to tell anything. So nevermind. I'll just go back to ignoring you.'

'....'

Because he suddenly started staring blankly in the air, Mrs. Meyer who happened to be nearby glanced at him. When his mother noticed his darkening expression, she worriedly said, "Son, I think you are already tired. Why don't you get some rest inside?"

His dad then came over and told them, "Actually, we're all set now. It's already 7:50 and our new city is 4 hours away. Come, my beautiful wife and handsome son, hop in."

Chris nodded and there was no change evident from his poker face when he got into the pa.s.senger seat. But inwardly, he was seething in rage as he just could not accept that the stupid thing would be with him for life.

He demanded an account from it, but he almost exploded when it explained,

'...Half-host...'

He had to bow his head to hide the redness and popping veins in his face.

Chris turned silent for a very long time. He repeatedly pinched his glabella and hoped that it would help him awaken from the nightmares.

Unfortunately, despite the pa.s.sage of time, the voice inside his brain didn't go away and instead started happily telling him that he was now someone inseparable to it. It continuously reminded him of the various bad news that comes with the first news.

In the end, when he could no longer stand it, he coldly and displeasedly asked,

'...You stupid b.a.s.t.a.r.d!!! Tell me, just when did I agree to be your host!??'

Of course, the d.a.m.n thing could not answer. It even pretended to be dead.

Because of this, as their truck slowly sped along the high way, Chris asked with every word heavily stressed,

'You won't answer? You want to play dead? You hateful idiot!!!'

'You're that desperate so you made me your whatever-host without asking my permission? If you're so capable, then why don't you just die and go to h.e.l.l and then bind with someone from there!!???'

Three seconds later, the system answered in a very tiny voice,

<... but="" why="" should="" i?="" i="" already="" have="" you,="" my="" meanie="" host...="">
