Li Xiuying coldly said: "Many Empires were thought to be unshakeable and many emperors have thought themselves invisible but they have become no more than the dust beneath people's feet. I'll see you at 7." She then hung up.
Li Xiuying hated that Qilin was right to en extent; she needed to become more powerful and raise her standing. Her medical skills and reputation could only carry her so far in the criminal underbelly. Since she was going to reclaim favors she would have to find a means to protect herself and instill fear in people who thought to cross her and take advantage of her.
Li Xiuying stared up into the darkness. After the operation on Qilin's father, she would draw a clear line in the sand. He was not someone who could be trusted. He was the type that would take a mile when given a millimeter.
Thinking along those lines, she would have to rethink how she used Qilin's employee as well as the duration of time she would use them. Li Xiuying would use Xuànfēng to acquire information on any small-time adversaries that crossed her path and the Li family & a.s.sociates. She couldn't allow Qilin to know any of her other movements.
She needed to create her own information network as soon as possible. She couldn't let what happened to Ren Daiyu happen again. Li Xiuying sighed. The more she tried to do the more she had to do.
Li Xiuying made a list of things she would have to do to make her network a reality in the shortest time possible. Chong Honghui was still waiting for her next move. She would have to talk to Ren Guiton and perhaps the people in the IT company she had bought shares in. She would go down legal channels by hiring private investigators. Li Xiuying would also try to get Qilin's employee to show her how to find hackers on the darknet.
Li Xiuying placed her hand on her forehead and ma.s.saged it gently as she removed the idea of going on to the darknet from her mind. Li Xiuying tapped on her forehead as she tried to recall anything from her past life that may help her.
Li Xiuying: "Think. Think. Think."
Li Xiuying couldn't think of anything or anyone useful. She turned onto her side and closed her eyes.
Li Xiuying decided to go to sleep and not exhaust herself with her ever-growing list of tasks. She had to be at her best tomorrow to deal with Qilin and his family.
...
Unity Hospital 8:00 am
When Li Xiuying arrived at the hospital at her office she found Shen Xiaosi waiting patiently outside.
Shen Xiaosi: "Good morning Dr Li."
Li Xiuying: "Morning."
Li Xiuying opened the door and went to put her bag on peg nearest to her desk. She took her laptop out and placed it on her desk.
Shen Xiaosi nervously followed. He closed the door behind him, rolled his office chair to Li Xiuying's desk. He wiped his sweaty hands on his trousers.
Li Xiuying eyed Shen Xiaosi for a minute before speaking: "Tasks completed?"
Shen Xiaosi was relieved when Li Xiuying began talking: "I completed 17 of the 30 tasks a.s.signed." He placed an annotated list of the jobs list Li Xiuying had given him.
She quickly scanned the list.
Li Xiuying: "Why couldn't you finish all the tasks?"
Shen Xiaosi: "The night that you gave me the list I had thought about the task list and already realized that I would not be able to finish all the jobs on the list. Most of the tasks required me to contact other members of staff and I couldn't predict how long that would take. I prioritized the list and did everything that was urgent or could impact the next 2 days. The remaining tasks do not affect patients and can be finished by someone in the next 2 days. I have numbered the tasks in the order they are to be completed." He didn't want to a.s.sume he would still have his job.
Li Xiuying: "My rota."
Shen Xiaosi: "I have updated your rota. Although it wasn't an urgent task I have emailed all the residents who were scheduled by Jiang Huan to shadow you and apologized for the mix-up. I chose to do this because I didn't want your reputation to be affected, nor their timetables. I have arranged for them to shadow you at different dates and times. Additionally, I have created a spreadsheet to doc.u.ment when residents email me and which days they have shadowed/ or will shadow you. I have not had a chance to include past residents."
Li Xiuying: "Pager?"
Shen Xiaosi: "I know the list stated you wanted a different pager for each department you were in. I have spoken with HR and I have requested you only have 3 different pagers. One for medicine, one for surgery and one for A &E. I thought it would be too many pagers out of the system if you had one for each of the departments. Also, others may get confused with which number to contact. I have forwarded your rota to the rota co-ordinator as well as the ward manager for each of our chosen specialties. Someone will be able to keep the pagers you won't use each day and answer them if required."
Li Xiuying: "Contacting Dr Ming Kuo and Dr Dù Ning."
Shen Xiaosi: "I have contacted both of them with regards to the complaints they have raised against you for causing their residents to miss time on the wards because of your teaching session on Friday and 'bullying' Ran Wecheng respectively. I took minutes from the conversation and emailed the doc.u.ment to them, I have CC'd both yourself and HR. They both had similar opinions on how to rectify this situation; they want you to cancel Friday teaching session and Dr Dù Ning wants a formal written apology for Ran Wecheng."
Li Xiuying got her email up on her laptop and found the emails Shen Xiaosi had spoken about. She turned her laptop to face him.
Li Xiuying: "Record verbatim."
Li XIuying: "The teaching sessions should be discussed with Director Qin, Elder Qin and CEO Qin. They have contacted me to help educate staff, it is up to the doctors and other healthcare professionals if they want to take up the opportunity to further their knowledge.
To Dr Dù Ning, I will not be apologizing formally or informally. I think it would be a better use of time to a.s.sess Ran Wencheng's knowledge and competence as a doctor. I will take the time to detail the event and interaction between your mentoree and myself. " Li Xiuying detailed the events from the Friday teaching session.
Shen Xiaosi's fingers flew across the keyboard as he endeavored not to miss a single word.
Li Xiuying: "Attach a copy of the medical council's doc.u.mentation on teaching, training and supporting colleagues to both emails."
Shen Xiaosi added the finis.h.i.+ng touches to the emails, CC'd himself into the email so he could keep a record of the paper trail. He turned the laptop to face Li Xiuying.
LI Xiuying scanned both the emails, auto-signed the bottom and sent them to both consultants. She checked the time to her laptop; 8:40.
Shen Xiaosi: "May I make a suggestion Dr li?"
Li Xiuiyng: "Mmm."
Shen Xiaosi: "I think it would be a good idea to have a register that lecture attendees can sign. They can take a photo and put this in their portfolios as proof. Also if a situation similar to Dr. Ran occurs again, it will be easy to find witnesses to the event in question."
Li Xiuying smiled a little. She looked for a file on her computer and turned the laptop to face Shen Xiaosi.
He looked at the table in front of him, Li Xiuying had already created a register and included dates and times. There was also a place that she will sign at the bottom of the doc.u.ment.
Li Xiuying: "I need you to complete some other tasks."
Shen Xiaosi grabbed his tablet and had his stylus ready.
Li Xiuying fired her orders: "Have the legal department send written doc.u.mentation to Jiang Huan regarding all her transgressions and future legal proceedings. Send it by courier for 8 pm. Contact her agency and have them give us a satisfactory response for having sent her to us. Contact the accounts people regarding patient Si Peijing's bill and find out if she has paid, if she has not then resend the invoice. Include a patient satisfaction survey regardless of payment status. Contact Director Zhang of Northwest University and state that I would be happy to do a lecture at the university, he may a.s.sign a topic that will complement the curriculum. It will have to be a month after the new students are admitted. That's all for now." She had to start eliminating weeds from their roots.
