The entire Aristan family, Leon, Jansulu, and Jansulu's parents were seated around the table. Almost all of them, with the exception with Leon were smiling at this happy occasion
Only Bakit, who was sitting next to Jansulu, with eyes full of dread, stood out from this neat family picture.
'I really don't belong here. What do I do? What can I do? I need to clear up this misunderstanding before it grows out of proportion…'
Bakit desperately needed to get out of this mansion. He did not care if they were n.o.bles or not, as far as he was concerned, these people were crazy.
"Yes, thank you very much. I truly appreciate it. But, about the matter of engagement…"
"Say no more. Do not worry; our family does not care if you are a n.o.bleman or a commoner. The only criterion to become part of our family was defeating Jansulu, which you have accomplished. An impressive feat, I should say!"
"Impressive feat…No, you got it wrong! I did not…"
"He also beat me when I challenged him to a duel."
Leon's words managed to m.u.f.fle the sound of Bakit's voice.
It was almost as if the matter was already decided upon, needing no further input from Bakit.
"He did?" Orak Aristan, Jansulu's father voiced his visible surprise.
"Yes, and as such, I no longer have the right to disapprove Sulu's engagement. At first I thought there was a foul play involved, but after challenging him myself, I understood that he is the real deal."
Now facing Bakit, Leon smiled.
"As such, I will gladly welcome to my family, brother-in-law."
"Uhm, thank you?" Bakit muttered confusedly.
Internally, he was thinking 'Brother-in-law? Seriously?!'
"But what I am trying to say is, I did not…."
"You two are going to be so happy together~" Jansulu's mother, Lenora Aristan's words cut Bakit off. "All of the previous generations of this Household met their bride or groom in such a fas.h.i.+on. Seeing my daughter find her groom so soon brings tears to my eyes…"
"Young man, I am glad someone like you showed up at our doorstep. You see, our daughter was born with talent that is found only once in a millennia. Within this entire kingdom, the number of people who can defeat her can be counted on one hand. With how strong Sulu is, we were worried that there would be none strong enough to best her. As the head of this household, allow me to sincerely thank you for becoming a worthy groom for our daughter. You have my most sincere thanks!"
Orak Aristan ended up crying while bowing his head in Bakit's direction. Apparently, finding a suitable match for his daughter drove him to tears.
There must have been heck a lot of suitors.
'Wow, this is really getting out of hand. None of the servants seem suspicious of me…' Bakit looked at the silver haired maid he ended up body slamming; she shyly looked away the moment their eyes made contact.
Bakit almost wanted to scream 'Save me please!' but the maid did not respond at all.
After everyone finished eating, Orak Aristan proclaimed.
"For now, you two shall be engaged, with the wedding to be held sometime in the future. And since young Bakit has accepted the dagger, everything is now set. You two have my blessing."
"Mister Aristan, you are having a horrible misunderstanding, I did not…"
"My love, shall we spend our first night together?"
"Say what?! No, no, no…"
Bakit found himself dragged by his left hand into the bedroom, with his physical strength not enough to resist.
Ignoring his desperate screams, he was forcefully dragged into Jansulu's bedroom.
"Ah, youth, we were like that once too; were we not?" Lenora squeezed her husband's hand.
"As far as I am concerned, we still are. But young ones sure are bold these days."
"They sure are." Aristans did not realize the huge mistake they were making. As far as they were concerned, there was a new addition to the family.
