He was a few steps in front of her. She wanted to tell him to stop so she could take another breath but when she went to reach him, she quickly fell head first on the ground.
Chang Wook turned around and saw his boss lying on the ground. She had her arms and legs stretched out which made her look like an X.
"Is there treasure under there?" Chang Wook asked with a chuckle. Ha Eun looked up at him.
"This is not the time to be funny. I actually hurt myself" Ha Eun said with a frown. Chang Wook helped her sit up but when Ha Eun tried to stand, her foot hurt too much.
"I think I broke my foot" Ha Eun said worriedly. She has never broken a bone before, how long will she have to be bedridden? She won't be able to get any work done.
Chang Wook helped her to sit down on a bench near them "Calm down. If you broke it you'd be in too much pain to even complain about it" he got down on one knee and took off Ha Eun's shoe. He inspected her foot and tried to place his hand where it hurt. His eyes on her foot made her grow self conscious of it and wonder when was the last time that she got a pedicure.
"That's enough!" Ha Eun said and moved her foot from Chang Wook's grasp, but the sudden movement made her groan in pain.
"It's not broken but it might be sprained" he told her "Can you walk?" he asked as he got back up on his feet. Ha Eun shook her head. He turned around and crouched down "Get on"
"What are you doing?" Ha Eun asked him.
"I'm going to carry you back down. We're not that far from civilization" Chang Wook told her, but he worried that she might be too heavy and could possibly break his back. He's never given piggyback rides before.
Ha Eun scoffed "Am I a koala? I'm not getting on your back" she told him "Just call an ambulance or something"
Chang Wook rolled his eyes at her "You don't need a hospital for this" he told her. Ha Eun still refused to get on his back, believing her foot was indeed very hurt.
Chang Wook got Ha Eun up her feet, he bent down, grabbed her thighs and lifted her over his shoulder. Ha Eun squealed in surprise.
"What are you doing?!" she yelled but Chang Wook noticed a sense of excitement in her tone. Was she having fun?
"Taking you down the mountain" Chang Wook said, "Hopefully I'll be able to make it" he took deep breaths "Have you gained weight?"
Ha Eun's face turned red as an apple "Put me down, put me down, put me down!" she yelled and hit his back a few times.
"Relax, I'm only kidding" he said laughing, she was practically as light as a feather.
Their conversation got cut off on the way down. Chang Wook wondered what to say to his boss, he knew for sure he had a lot of things to tell her before, but now that he's realized his feelings, he's drawn a blank as to what to talk about with her. What did they usually talk about before this whole ordeal happened?
Oh yeah…her.
A slight chuckle left Ha Eun's voice "What are you laughing about?" he asked her.
"Nothing, its just been years since the last time I got a piggyback ride" Ha Eun said. She felt childish thinking about when she got piggyback rides.
Chang Wook was confused "A piggyback ride?" he asked, worried that his boss might have also hurt her head when she fell.
"Yes, the way you're carrying me. It's a piggyback ride. Haven't you ever heard of them?" Ha Eun said mockingly. Chang Wook widened his eyes "Mr. Oh gave me piggyback rides a few times. Just like this."
"You think this is a piggyback ride?" Chang Wook asked.
"What else would it be?" Ha Eun countered. Chang Wook tried to hold in his laughter. He wanted to tell everyone about this.
"Well boss, I'm sorry to say this but Mr. Oh knows p.o.o.p about piggyback riding" Chang Wook said with a smile.
"Oh yes he does, Mr. Oh's brother-in-law has 2 kids, he and his wife, give them piggyback rides just like this"
"Wow" Chang Wook couldn't believe her words "So, your family is full of piggyback failures" Chang Wook chuckled. He couldn't hold in his laughter.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Ha Eun asked defensively "Mr. Oh is a great piggybacker"
"Do you want to know what I think about that?" Chang Wook asked.
"What?!" Ha Eun asked. Suddenly Chang Wook spanked her. Ha Eun's yelled "Ow!" her face grew red with embarra.s.sment. Although Chang Wook couldn't see her reaction, but just imagining it made him chuckle.
"You jerk! Wait till I get my hands on you" Chang Wook spanked her one more time while laughing "Stop it!" she whined. Her words just made him want to tease her more and more.
"Then stop whining about it" Chang Wook laughed and spanked her again.
...
Once they got back home, Chang Wook placed Ha Eun on the sofa and called for his grandmother "She was a nurse back in the day. She's great at all this healing stuff" Chang Wook told her.
Soo Ryun arrived and saw Ha Eun was a bit dirty and her foot was swollen.
"What happened?!" Soo Ryun asked worriedly.
"She's a klutz" Chang Wook answered. Soo Ryun, though a small lady, she jumped and hit Chang Wook right on the back of his head.
"Show some respect, she's your fiancée!" Soo Ryun said. She went to inspect Ha Eun's leg "Oh you poor thing" she said looking at Ha Eun.
"What's wrong with you two?! Going out and getting hurt?! And the day before your wedding no less!" Soo Ryun got angry with both of them. Ha Eun was surprised by this. She was the victim, yet why was she getting scolded? Not even Mr. Oh scolded her.
Ha Eun wondered if the wedding would be postponed. She kind of wished it would. On the other hand, Chang Wook was worried that they couldn't get married.
Soo Ryun noticed how worried the couple where about tomorrow. They wanted to get married that badly? She thought they must excited to quickly jump into marital s.e.x "Must be nice being young" Soo Ryun said. Chang Wook and Ha Eun glanced at each other.
They wondered how being hurt was a good thing. Soo Ryun told them to forget it and promised to do the best she could to get Ha Eun ready for tomorrow.
It surprised the couple when Han Soo walked into the room. Ha Eun was worried about what he would say to her, but he just stared at her then looked at his son.
Han Soo thought that he should talk with Ha Eun once again, after the spectacle he made of himself, he felt uneasy and thought another talk with her would do the trick. Chang Wook glared at his father and pulled him into the other room.
"What did you say to Ha Eun yesterday?" he asked his father angrily. Han Soo was surprised that Ha Eun hadn't told him yet. He thought that maybe, she was just trying to save his son the trouble of confronting him.
"I just talked about your relations.h.i.+p, thinking that it was best for the engagement to be voided" Han Soo didn't see any reason to keep this a secret from his son. He had already talked to Ha Eun and she refused to make the deal with him.
"I knew it!" Chang Wook whispered angrily to his father "Dad, we haven't always gotten along, and you never approved of anything I did but for the love of Christ, give me a break" Chang Wook paused. He needed to take a breath and calm down.
"I really like this girl and I'm going to marry her whether you like it or not" Chang Wook turned to leave when he heard his father chuckle. He turned to look at him again "Is what I said funny to you?"
"No, it's just that, that girl...I mean…Ha Eun. She said the same thing" Han Soo grinned. Chang Wook's cheeks grew red. He knew she was lying to his father but just imagining Ha Eun saying she liked him made his heart skip a beat.
"Your personalities are so different, yet somehow you complement each other so well" Han Soo tapped his son on the shoulder and walked past him.
"Even though you didn't ask me…I'll agree to this marriage" Han Soo walked away. When he reached the living room, he bowed to his daughter-in-law. She was surprised by this action; so was Soo Ryun. She's never seen him bow his head to anybody.
Ha Eun saw that as a way of apologizing. She knew a man like him, who was probably just as stubborn as she was, wasn't going to come straight out with an apology. He would do actions as a way to apologize.
She knew that, that was the closest he would get to apologizing to her. So, she bowed her head as well, as a way to say that she understood and accepted his apology.
Han Soo went upstairs but Ha Eun said "We never finished that game"
Han Soo didn't turn around, but he had a grin on his face "Just so you know, I won't go easy on you next time" Ha Eun chuckled.
"Really? And here I thought I was the one going easy on you"
Chang Wook saw this as a weird way of his soon to be wife and her soon to be father-in-law bonding. He couldn't help but sigh thinking that both of them where pretty similar.
"I feel like I'm going to marry my father" Chang Wook whispered to himself. Do Mi appeared behind her son. He almost jumped in fright.
"They are pretty similar, aren't they?" Do Mi asked with a smile. Although she didn't know the exact details of what happened between her husband and Ha Eun, she did know their outing didn't go as planned.
"I have to admit, I was a bit forceful telling him to apologize to her, but I didn't think he would do it"
"So, he apologized because you forced him to?" Chang Wook was a bit disappointed in his father now.
"I didn't force him to. I just said no s.e.x for a year if he didn't apologize" Do Mi smiled. Chang Wook felt like gagging. The one thing a child doesn't want to picture is their parents doing the dirty "But, you know your father, he'd rather face 1,000 years in h.e.l.l than apologize" Chang Wook thought that for a man, no s.e.x for a year was basically being sent to h.e.l.l.
"But seeing how she looked at you caringly and how bright your smile got when you looked at her. I guess he started to feel guilty"
Chang Wook's cheeks flushed red again "You really think she looks at me caringly?"
"Even a blind man can see that" Do Mi kissed her son on the cheek goodnight and headed to bed. Chang Wook stood there looking at Ha Eun talking to his grandmother and smiling. Could it be possible that, maybe just a little bit, Ha Eun liked him back?
