He trotted forward nimbly with his paws through the forest but this time he was heading in deeper where the trees gradually got taller and the shrubbery was much more dense.
After consuming so many cores he could feel that he was approaching another transformation which erupted a feeling of excitement within him. This transformation would once again evolve him into a separate wolf race and he could only guess what kind of powers he could gain.
As he moved onward giggling to himself, his happiness was soon silenced by an eerie scream which seemed to have come from some distance away. Even with his advanced senses he could only hear the screech but couldn't get a sense of smell.
Determined to find out what creature was letting out this frightening noise, Zaro shot forward towards the noise like an arrow as he whistled past the trees.
It wasn't long until he finally picked up a scent but along with it came a very strong aura that radiated horrifyingly throughout the forest! Soon he had approached the creature only to find out that it was actually a very intense battle!
Firstly, he noticed a brown bird the size of a two pa.s.senger plane with s.h.i.+ning feathers and an amber light s.h.i.+ning through its chest which Zaro guessed was its core. While its opponents were three badger-looking creatures yet their hind legs allowed them to leap really high and their claws were excellent for ripping prey apart and not to mention their red cores!
The bird had trouble escaping as whenever it tried leaping into the air, it was simply pulled down by one of the other beasts! Fighting back was an even worse idea as it could only grab the beasts and throw them around with its own talons while allowing them to latch onto itself.
Meanwhile Zaro was at a dilemma, he could either rush in and help the bird and then try to make a run for it or he could just ignore the bird and be on his way. The last other option would be to help the beasts which could eventually lead to him getting killed once the battle was over...
Shaking his head in frustration, Zaro jumped into the fray and immediately tackled one of the beasts mid-air. This one reckless tackle turned out to be a life saving opportunity for the bird as it would no longer need to worry about being pulled down while ascending.
Realizing that there was no turning back, Zaro ignited his killing instinct and lunged at the throats of the beasts. The attack felt so sudden that the beast closer to Zaro almost had no way of dodging the attack and thus shut its eyes to take the hit.
However, Zaro still hadn't developed his core fully and his. .h.i.t had only torn off a small bit of flesh from the beasts neck. Even though ruby cores seemed to be the weakest among all, Zaro still pushed his aggression and began repeatedly throwing out his claws at the beast.
After taking a few more hits, the beast regained momentum and struck back at Zaro with full aggression which sent him flying into a tree trunk. His body slammed against the tree while blood splattered on his abdomen.
"Argh!" he cried helplessly.
The three beasts were absolutely enraged by Zaro's actions and were fully intent on ripping him into pieces!
Regretting his decision, Zaro turned tail and ran hoping that he could throw the beasts off his tracks. Yet this was only wishful thinking as the beasts shot forward with their hind legs and landed in front of Zaro before he could take off too far.
This situation gave him a sense of déja vu as the three beasts closed in on him growling ferociously, "Please! I need another miracle!" he was hoping for that sliver chance of survival just like last time as his heart raced outrageously.
Suddenly a loud ear piercing screech was let out from near by which caused all of the beasts including Zaro to shut their eyes momentarily until the screeching eventually stopped.
Once the three beasts opened their eyes, Zaro was no longer in front of them as if he disappeared in thin air! Looking around furiously it wasn't long until they realized that the bird from before had swooped in and grabbed Zaro!
"Thank you for your help, what name does my benefactor go by?" the voice of the bird was incredibly calm and beautiful which made Zaro feel as if he actually was in heaven.
"Zaro..." he said with drool dripping from his tongue.
"I will take us somewhere safe Zaro, don't move around too much."
The moment the bird said that, Zaro realized he was miles away from the ground and immediately started to struggle.
"Zaro! Stop struggling!" the bird shouted furiously.
"Put me down! I don't wanna die!" As Zaro was a grounded animal, he wasn't used to flying this high and wanted to be put down immediately.
"If you don't want to die then don't move around so much you brat or I actually will kill you!" the bird said in a strict tone and eventually Zaro complied.
Some time had pa.s.sed and the two eventually made it onto the ground, Zaro immediately began kissing the ground while the bird flew up onto a tree.
"Brat, you have a lot of courage helping me escape from those badgers," the bird said in a respectful manner.
"I suffered wounds cause of you! Look!" Zaro turned to see his abdomen in perfect condition as if nothing had attacked him, "Huh?" he said dumbfounded.
"You seem to have a lot of essence gathered, I expect your growth to be incredibly fast once you develop your core."
"My core! How do I develop it!?" he immediately snapped back into reality.
"It comes to you with time, however, the longer it takes to form, the stronger your power will be in the future and by the size of it, it seems like you will be able to develop an emerald core with ease."
Zaro realized that this bird was his key to discovering more about this world and without hesitation began thinking of all of the questions he could ask! Seeing him contemplate, the bird quickly called out to Zaro, "Three questions! Maximum!"
"Curse you... alright then, number one! How are you able to communicate with me!"
"Simple question, once you develop an amber core you can sense vibrations in other creatures' throats which allows you to comprehend their intentions behind the sounds they make."
Without hesitation he asked another, "What are cores and why did you mention an emerald core?"
The bird raised its furry eye brow in curiosity before it spoke, "Well, core's are stages in power, which range from ruby which is the lowest to amber, emerald, sapphire and diamond. Different stages offer different amounts of power which makes you stronger, of course, you must have enough s.p.a.ce in your core to expand it to further levels, shouldn't you know this stuff from your elders?"
"You asked a question so I get another one free!" Zaro giggled.
With a sigh the bird replied, "Fine."
"I came into this world without any parents or guardians so everything I know is that forest I was in and some creatures in it."
"Interesting, so does that mean that-"
"My turn!" Zaro snapped before continuing to speak, "Have you seen any creatures that walk on two feet and have two arms, mostly without hair on their bodies?"
"Humanoids? No, but I heard that there are stages beyond diamond cores which allow you to transform into one... but I don't know if they are naked? As I was saying before you rudely interrupted... have you acquired so much essence alone?"
"Yes."
"..."
"My turn!" Zaro laughed to himself.
"Elaborate how you did it you f***ing hound!"
"Okay okay, I have a very good hunting ability, to be more precise I can sneak up on prey a lot easier than other wolves." Zaro had no intentions of revealing that he can simply become invisible by simply crouching behind bushes.
"Makes sense... last question for you, think wisely."
Zaro once again spat out a question without thinking too long which made the bird choke on itself, "Is there any sort of a system in this world? Such as a place where a race of beasts govern and live at all times... in harmony?"
"No, but there are several beast territories which are controlled only by a specific race. If you ever happen to come across one... run, they kill on sight."
"Your name?" Zaro asked with a smile.
"Cheeky much... I am known as Sevilus."
"The 'Cheeky much Sevilus' it is, where we heading to?" Zaro responded laughing to himself.
"Eh, you're getting dropped off close to where we met... I'm going towards my own territory!"
"Take me with you!" Zaro begged.
"No, let's take you back."
Sevilus swooped in and grabbed him with its talons as it flew off into the distance. This time Zaro could see the beauty of the land as he was getting comfortable flying with Sevilus. He noticed that the forest was extremely vast and he could not see the end of it even while high in the air! Some parts of the forest had different colored leaves, others had taller trees and some had large pools of water in the middle of them!
This world was truly vast which made Zaro excited for what was to come in the future.
