Xiujun arrived at the media company and some of the employees came over to greet him. His manager was at the office so he was by himself.

The elevator beeped at the last floor, and with his signature smile he stepped out, when the chairman's secretary saw him her mouth hung open.

What is he suddenly doing at the company?

She rushed and bowed before him. "Chairman is currently in a meeting..."

"He's meant to meet with me." Xiujun said and walked past her to the door.

Her eyes bulged. She ran back to her table and used her telephone to call the chairman's office.

"He's on his way." She announced when the line connected.

"Good morning, everyone." Du Xiujun said when he stepped through the door.

Jingtang smiling face froze.

The chairman's expression turned rigid.

Xiujun almost laughed looking at the two.

Xueyan and Yuxi turned to the person at the door. Xueyan's mouth slightly parted. How can he look this good?

They both stood up. Xiujun looked towards the two ladies. "h.e.l.lo," he bowed a bit.

"h.e.l.lo," Xueyan and Yuxi chorused.

"Thank you for taking out your time," Xiujun walked round and rested his hands on the table, his suit sleeves pulled up a bit revealing a bandaged wrist.

Xueyan's expression dulled. She is the reason he has his wrist bandaged.

"Jingtang," Xiujun called.

"Yes." Jingtang walked over to him.

"Did you prepare it?" Xiujun was still looking at Xueyan.

Jingtang looked towards the chairman for help. The man looked away and stood up.

"Sit Xiu, I bet you're tired."

Xiujun took the vacated chair without a single complaint.

"We didn't really have time to prepare it..." The chairman was saying when Xiujun darted a look towards him. His expression so ugly that the man stopped speaking. He concealed it almost immediately but Yuxi had seen it.

Is this Xueyan sweet actor? She wondered. More like a devil.

The telephone rang. The chairman picked up. The person on the other side only said a statement but it was enough for him to understand. "Let him do as he pleases." Then hung up.

The chairman with a pale face still had the telephone in his hand. Jingtang tapped him a bit and he put it down.

"Go get it."

Those three words struck Jingtang. "Sir..."

"Do as I say."

Xueyan and Yuxi in confused state watched the three men and wondered what they were doing.

Jingtang left and returned five minutes after. He had three doc.u.ments in his hand.

When Xueyan saw it her heart missed a beat.

He placed them in front of Xueyan.

"I'm sorry, for suddenly calling you over. Take a look at those three doc.u.ments and contemplate whether to sign or not. But I think signing them would do you good." Xiujun with a smile on his face, caroled.

Yuxi took them and opened the first doc.u.ment, she was surprised with what she saw. The second one was another surprise. She opened the third one with hope on seeing what they came for. But no, it wasn't. It was something bigger than those two. Her eyes bulged. "What is this?"

"Exactly what it is." Xiujun said.

Yuxi looked at Xueyan. "Have a look for yourself."

Xueyan with shaky hands took the doc.u.ments, and flipped the cover over... She stopped to read the heading. She looked up at Xiujun, he beamed at her.

She put it aside and opened the second one. And the third one, she stood up. She looked towards Yuxi and Yuxi pressed her lips together.

Xueyan raised her eyes at the Chairman and Jingtang. Jingtang scowled.

Xiujun pa.s.sed Xueyan a fountain pen and nodded with his eyes closed. "Sign them,"

"You can leave them if you don't wish to sign them." Jingtang sneered.

"Miss Xueyan," Xiujun called her to attention.

"With this contract, you'd be a.s.sured of this life and the next." The chairman praised.

Xueyan didn't expect any of this. She had come solely on the note in being wanted by Xiujun's management. Everything that would happen afterward she didn't know. Does good thing really come to good people, as said? Is she among the good people on earth? With this contract, will she finally be happy? Or would things go astray just like it had gone for her father? Will this be everlasting or just to pa.s.s out time?

"I'm sorry..."

"You don't need to be." Xiujun stopped her from continuing.

"I mean I can't accept this!"

Xiujun turned to see a wide grin on Jingtang's face.

He wanted to smack that grinning face.

Xueyan turned and strode to the door.

The secretary saw the door opening and almost jumped onto Xueyan, ready for gossip. When she realised who it was she meekly went back to her desk.

Xueyan strode out of the top floor with Yuxi.

Back inside the chairman's office.

Xiujun's expression was grim. Jingtang couldn't hold in his happiness. The chairman stood with his two hands clasped together.

If the higher ups find out that Xiujun didn't fulfill his wish... He might get in trouble.

"Xiu," the chairman called. "Don't worry, I will plead with her. I will persuade her to agree, okay?" He fanned Xiujun.

"You don't need to! She already made her decision, why force her into something she doesn't want? Just let it slide." Jingtang tried to change Xiujun's mind.

Xiujun glared daggers at Jingtang, stood up and left. He was bound on convincing her.

Yuxi escorted Xueyan to the last floor and told the driver to take Xueyan home. Xueyan left in the car and kept remembering the three doc.u.ments.

"Why didn't you sign?" Yuxi had asked inside the elevator.

"Yuxi, these are all too soon."

Yuxi just giggled. "Think about it. It's not a bad offer."

Xueyan glared at her. "I know nothing about it."

"With time you'd adapt. We will certainly not remain in our position for ever! It took us time to get here with the help of father... Mother doesn't even design anymore because no one believes in her. If you take on this offer, mother might start designing again. Just for you. Father can retire. He's not happy here, he keeps thinking of his unmoving small business. s.h.i.+huan will have a brighter future. And I'd be here to support you. It's your day off, take a cool shower, rest your head and think it through."

Xueyan arrived home and saw a very sad s.h.i.+huan. "Huan?" He darted a look at her and then looked away. "What is wrong?"

"His game was cancelled." Mr Bai said from the dinning area. "It won't hold till next year."

Xueyan mouth fell open.

"By the way, where did you go dressed in this attire?" The man propped his jaw on his hand.

Xueyan's throat bobbed. "I..."

She said nothing more and waited for her father to urge her but the man simply let her be.

She strode to the room.

Inside an office of four. Three young women gossiped amongst themselves.

"Did you hear, the female lead of the new upcoming historical drama has been changed?" The first lady said.

"Those are just groundless rumours. There's no proof!" The second lady argued.

"It's not a groundless rumour! The chairman changed her!" The first lady stood firm on her information.

"I can't wait to see the new female lead. I bet miss best actress would go up in flames." The third lady said and they laughed.

The young man in the room, looked up from his computer and shook his head. They did nothing than talk.

"On my way to get a cup of coffee, I had seen Xiu... Believe me he must be in support of the idea." The first lady continued.

"Really?" The second lady frowned. "We work at a company filled with celebrity but don't even see our stars daily. We are locked up in here... I should have learnt make up instead of editing in college." Hmph. "Du Xiujun rarely comes around and he did today and I didn't get to see him. So sad."

Yuxi helped Qiangshen choose an outfit. A very formal s.h.i.+rt and suit. His make up artist did a lot touch up for him and he was all set.

"You have just forty five minutes to spare them and then head back at the company. Don't forget, forty five minutes." Chu Feng announced.

Qiangshen nodded and left with Yuxi by his side. "Did grandmother contact you yet?" Qiangshen asked inside the car.

"No," Yuxi shook her head.

He said nothing more and looked out the window.

Yuxi wondered if Xueyan would accept the offer. She picked her phone and sent a smiling emoji over to Xueyan on WeChat. Maybe this is our time. We deserve to be happy.

When they arrived at the location. It was an open restaurant, behind the restaurant was the magazine team that had invited them for a photoshoot and interview. They seemed surprise as he came with a female companion.

They got ready for the shoots and the interviewer arranged her questions. The cameraman got ready and raised a finger to signify the interview.

She was about five feet five inches tall, with a gown that was above her knees. Exposing her pair of white legs and a white stilettos to match her pink gown.

A low table was set, with a cup of coffee on it.

The camera turned to her.

"It's surprising who we have here," the interviewer started. She had a light smile on her face. "Its none other than the nation's darling..." And the camera moved to a smiling Qiangshen with a cup of coffee. He dropped it and waved.

"So we're going live, right now join us and send in your questions." After saying that, she sipped a gla.s.s of water.

The camera moved and now it was able to view them both.
