"For an eternity, if you'd let me."
Xueyan's eyes as well as Qingran's widened.
Qingran gasped. "That long? You'd be old and tired..."
"Will still be strong and energetic!" He declared and it made her smile.
Xueyan didn't want this discussion to continue. "Ran'er," she whispered. She didn't know why though. "Please let's go. You said you were thirsty,"
Qingran. "Oh! Give me." She outstretched her little palm.
It had been hard convincing the girl to let him show her around. She was hesitant and insisted he leaves. She had even asked why he didn't go out with Zhihao. She didn't let her guard down. But it hadn't even taken a minute to sulk up to her.
And now, she was letting him carry her. Smiling to him. And speaking so nicely to him. He didn't want to let go so easily. He would treasure this moment for a lifetime.
He looked down at Xueyan, her grim expression. He didn't like seeing her angry, but still he didn't want to let go of the little girl in his arms.
"Let's go, together." He took large steps towards the exit.
When they got outside, Zhaolin went straight to a free bench. He sat down and put Qingran on his laps. He wasn't going to let go anytime soon.
Xueyan brought out the mineral water, uncapped it and brought it to her mouth. Qingran drank two mouth full and sighed, she looked up to see Zhaolin looking at her. She smiled. He smiled back.
Xueyan wondered how her daughter was able to accept him so quickly. Unknowingly to her, the man had been going back and forth to the school. He would get three cups of ice-cream, one for Zhihao, one for Qingran and one for himself. They would lick it during lunch break then he'd return back to work.
Xueyan lips thinned. "Qingran let's..."
Her phone started ringing. She stood up and distanced herself from them before picking up. Her back towards them.
"h.e.l.lo, Miss Xueyan."
Xueyan already knew who it was.
"I already sent the location and time. You have received it, right?"
Xueyan pulled the phone out to see the message.
"Yes,"
"Yes, okay. I will be waiting."
"Are you going anywhere?"
"Ah!" Her jolt said she had been scared out of her senses. "What is with you?"
"Nothing," he replied immediately. She wanted to strangle him, first he refused to let go of her daughter and now he came over to give her a scare.
"Are you going anywhere?" He asked again.
"Yes." She took a step from him, to go round him and walk back.
"To where?" He blocked her.
"Are you insane? That's none of your business." She took another step but he blocked her part again.
"I will drive you."
"Thanks, but no thanks." She took yet another step.
"You welcome. Now let's go."
She slapped her forehead. "I meant I don't need your help. Now, excuse me."
She walked round him but he grabbed her arm and it made her wince, he immediately let go.
Last thing he wanted was to hurt her. "I'm sorry," he apologized.
She shot daggers at him, apologizing as if he would stop bothering her.
"We are leaving," she said and carried Qingran. She didn't want him carrying her.
"I will drive you," he offered again. She turned to glare at him.
"I don't need it! Please,"
He wasn't stopping soon. He followed behind them. Xueyan headed to the bustop. It was farer than the store, and carrying Qingran wasn't helping out. Qingran had been eating a lot and s.h.i.+huan helped her take Qingran to school when he was around.
Now it felt like she was carrying a heavy load but actually she herself had gotten lazier.
She still didn't want to bring Qingran down to her feet.
"Let me carry her," he said and Qingran turned her head to look behind her them. There he was. That das.h.i.+ng man.
He was so handsome! Even more handsome than her Prince Charming. Was this man an actor? No, no. She had never seen him, neither on TV nor on the news.
Such a handsome man wasting away. She thought. He was only Zhihao's father and nothing more. She said this not knowing more, her knowledge limited, but maybe in the future, though the future wasn't so far anymore. She would then realize who he was, his importance... And an unending happiness...
Zhaolin saw the little girls face turn from glow, then to be thinking then realization. And finally a sigh. Resignation.
He wanted to laugh. What was she thinking?
"Say it out? Never hold it in."
His words made Xueyan stop, she swirled around. "Stop following us around. What if someone recognizes you? What will they say? They saw the Almighty..."
"I was talking to her," Zhaolin pointed at Qingran. "Besides, no one can say anything."
She wasn't aware of the fact that they weren't alone, a black car following closely behind them and some shadow guards to watch over them.
"Really?" Qingran inquired. Not waiting for a response, she continued. "Are you an actor? A model? Perhaps an artist. I have never seen you in the TV nor magazine. Why are you so handsome but not in the entertainment circle?"
Xueyan wasn't the only shocked one, Zhaolin was taken aback. He didn't expect that! He was expecting to hear the reason why he was still following them when her mother keeps trying to send him away.
"You shouldn't ask that."
"I'm..." Before Zhaolin could say more, Xueyan glared at him.
"You're so tired. Let me drive you."
"You keep offering to drive us," Qingran said. "Where's the car?"
"Come," he outstretched his hand and s.n.a.t.c.hed Qingran from Xueyan's embrace. For the fact he was stronger he was able to s.n.a.t.c.h the little girl because he saw Xueyan tighten her hand.
"Mr..." Xueyan paused when she realized she was about to call his name out, and aloud.
Zhaolin sent a message to Riuwen, and a black expensive car stopped in front. Xueyan mouth hung open.
Riuwen climbed down, and handed the keys over to Zhaolin.
"You look familiar," Qingran suddenly said. Everyone turned to her.
Riuwen looked up at the little girl in Zhaolin's arm. His expression didn't change. "I came to the school a few times,"
"He's aunt Jiu's brother. Her twin brother." Xueyan said.
Surprise written all over Qingran's face. 'Really.'
He nodded.
Zhaolin put Qingran at the back, walked over to the other side and pulled the car door's open. Waiting for Xueyan. She stood there with her hands folded.
Riuwen bowed and turned to leave, "Where are you going?" Xueyan surprised both Zhaolin and Riuwen. He said, "To the office,"
"On foot?"
She had no idea they hadn't come alone. "Come along with us."
It made the vein on Zhaolin's head twitch. He didn't take his eyes off Xueyan but Riuwen had seen the little act. He bowed respectfully and it made Xueyan frown. "Stop doing that."
He immediately stood straight, suddenly a taxi drove over and Riuwen waved it down.
"Here is a taxi, I will go with it." He didn't wait for a response and immediately entered.
Xueyan watched the taxi leave. She turned to see Zhaolin bent over the car and making little conversation with Qingran, she seemed to be enjoying it as she giggled.
In front of KFC, the black car came to a stop. Xueyan came down and he drove into the parking lot. 'He was so adamant on driving her. Finally she had agreed. And now he wanted to drive her back.'
She entered the KFC, and there He Jingtang was. When he saw her, he immediately stood up. He flashed her a smile and pointed to the chair opposite him. Xueyan sat down.
"No beating around the bush, I need you to help me contact Xiujun."
The waiter served them and left.
"He has been missing for two weeks. Not exactly missing, he just disappeared. He refuses to continue on his historical drama, and its not sitting well with the investors."
Xueyan brows crinkled. "What has that got to do with me?"
"A single call from you will save a lot of people. So many people might lose their job if this continue. Please," He Jingtang pushed his cellphone to Xueyan. "Oh," he looked up. 'She had been watching him.'
He stood up, bowed his head and exited the sit.
Xueyan didn't see the woman coming from behind.
She sat in front of Xueyan. "You must be Bai Xueyan." Her voice so soft like her features. She was extremely beautiful, with pointed nose and slightly big eyes. She smiled. "Call me, Anhao." She stretched her hand forward.
Xueyan shook it, there was doubt on her face. "I..."
"No it's okay," the woman said. "Can you help make the call, please." She closed her eyes. "If the higher ups find out he's missing, even a begger on the street will be better than me... Please,"
Why did she have to be the one to make the call? Wait, why would he listen to her?
She took out three doc.u.ments and placed on the table. And then another three. "This here," she pointed to the first three doc.u.ments. "Is the fake one. You can sign them, if you don't want to make the call. Its counterfeit and wouldn't count. Here is the original three."
She opened the first two from the fake and original and showed it to Xueyan. "You don't see the difference but..."
"How do I trust you?" The question made Jingtang's mouth drop.
"It's the truth." Jingtang answered.
"Miss Xueyan, even I don't support you signing the original. You know nothing about it. You don't have backing. I never supported it, so please."
Xueyan's phone beeped, she took it out to see the unfamiliar number.
