Xueyan's phone beeped, she took it out to see the unfamiliar number. There was a message and an incoming call.

Jingtang strained his neck and instantly recognized the number, his eyes widened, he waited for Xueyan to pick up.

Xueyan hesitated before picking up.

"Miss Bai Xueyan, I guess?"

Xueyan saw Jingtang mutter something, he repeated it again and she was able to read his lips.

'Xiujun'

"Yes, and you are?"

There was a second silence on the other side, "Xiujun, been trying to reach you. How are you doing?"

"I've been doing just fine."

"Where are you? Maybe you changed your mind, I can come get the doc.u.ments..."

"I haven't signed any of them..." Xueyan paused.

Silence stretched for some seconds. "Oh. I thought you had a change of mind."

"Was about to sign them when your call came in,"

"What?" Xiujun wasn't able to conceal his shock, he jumped up from his bed. Startling the cleaning guy. "I will come pick it myself, give me your address."

"No, come to the company instead." The woman in front of her smiled. This was her second time smiling, it was so bright that it could burn her enemies. "I'll be at the company tomorrow."

She heard him sigh.

"See you tomorrow, then." After saying that he happily hung up. Walked up to his closet and picked a black suit, a s.h.i.+rt with anchor designs, he whistled all through. He selected a black leather watch, and a pair of black shoes.

He swirled around the room, making music with whistling. The big smile on his face was irregular.

'What is making him so happy?' the cleaning guy wondered.

"Finally there's gonna be a new face, this is exciting."

The cleaning guy smiled. "Congratulations sir," his master must have achieved something great.

Xiujun thanked him and went out the gla.s.s doors to look at the far away city.

No one knew he had bought a house, very far from the city. He didn't like the prying eyes of his management and that stoic faced woman. He always wanted to be away, far away that no one would be able to trace him. He hated the fact that every little move he made was seen by them.

He had gotten Jingtang drunk to be able to escape, and he didn't leave with his car. He left his phone in the room only for Jingtang to call and realize he had left it behind. That had been sweet though. He loved taunting them, as all they did gave him headache.

If Xueyan really signs the three doc.u.ments, there will be more fun. It won't sit well with so many people. He smirked.

He couldn't wait to drop this bombsh.e.l.l. On their smiling faces. Not that it was real though.

Back at KFC, the woman thanked Xueyan and offered the fake doc.u.ments, but Xueyan shook her head. She had the original doc.u.ments as well, she'd sign them instead.

"Why don't you sign?"

"I have the originals."

The woman's eyes constricted. "Those are not fake..."

Xueyan stood up. "Exactly,"

Disgust marred the woman's face. "Why?"

"This opportunity comes once in a lifetime, its a big opportunity. Won't have the chance to get it again. So I'd rather utilize it."

The woman sneer. "You all are just the same, full of greed."

Jingtang that stood by the side swallowed. 'This woman. She had been pleading not too long ago. And now insulting her? Gosh. What could he do? He could only watch from the sideline. The fact remains, she can't mess with Xueyan. Xiujun wouldn't forgive her easily.' So he sighed in relief.

The woman's face was no longer bright. Displeasure written on her face, she stood and with long strides left the place.

"Please forgive her." Jingtang apologized and ran after the woman.

She remembered seeing a message on her phone. She clicked on the message and it opened. She had been credited, from the hotel. She raised an eyebrow and smiled.

She got to the parking lot, there was no one in the car. She looked around and decided to give him a call. The call was disconnected and she saw them coming from a corner. Qingran had a KFC bag in hand. He had three extra.

They got close and Qingran flashed her a smile. "Mom, Mr Zhao got me boneless chicken and popcorns." She raised the bag. "You want some?"

Xueyan shook her head. "I have hers here," Zhaolin said.

"Oh," Qingran smiled again. "Just great."

They drove out and hit the road, the radio was turned on and a song started playing. It was a song from the cartoon Frozen and Qingran started singing along.

From the rearview mirror, Zhaolin watched her. Her eyes glistened. He wondered what the girl enjoyed when growing up. Zhihao loved his presence the most. He would always stick to him whenever he came back from cla.s.ses.

Zhihao had gone with him to America to study, he was first admitted in a hospital... Where he was left to recover. Recover from his horrible nightmares. For a whole year, he was in the hospital after spending Zhihao's first year together.

After that, he studied in America for three years before coming back to his country.

It was after he returned to the country that he... Xiao s.h.i.+ya. She can't still get along with Zhihao even after two years, she always tried her best... Well not best enough.

The mere thought of his son made his heartbeat form a cacophony.

It was eight o'clock, when they arrived at Xueyan's apartment.

"Xueyan," he called softly after they had all gotten down.

She turned to give him that look. The look he hated receiving from her. She agreed on signing those doc.u.ments.

This was her chance of having a good life. He was thankful she hadn't rejected it. She must have thought deeply about it.

"I will send your resignation letter to the hotel, so you'd worry less."

Her eyes widened in surprise. "What... How did you find out?"

"I promised to guard you. To protect and s.h.i.+eld you from dangerous eyes."

"That isn't the answer to my question."

"You made a good decision. You're too precious to be a worker in a hotel."

Xueyan was speechless. He was obsessed. Obsessed to the extent he kept tab on her.

She turned and strode in. Qingran was at the elevator door, waiting. She saw her mother approaching but he wasn't behind her. "Where's uncle?"

"What uncle?" Xueyan asked.

"Mr Zhao said I could call him that..."

"Well, he isn't your uncle." Xueyan said.

"I know. He said the t.i.tle Mr Zhao would distance us and he doesn't want that."

Xueyan was speechless again.

"He said he wants to be close to us. He likes you and me too. He would take care of us, just like he's taking care of his son and would..."

"What did you say?" Xueyan immediately bent her knee. "What did you just say?"

"What?" Qingran put her index finger under her jaw. "That he would take care of us?"

Xueyan nodded. "Yes... You said something again."

Qingran thought for a while. "Just like he's taking care of his son?"

Shocked, Xueyan swallowed. "He has a son?"

"Yes. Zhihao. Aunt Jiu comes to the school to pick him. We go to the same school. Uncle comes around almost every brunch time and sometimes lunch time to give us ice-cream. He buys popcorns too. So bad we three eat together and I don't get to bring for you. Forgive me." Qingran touched her ear, in an apologetic way.

Xueyan pulled down her hand from her ear. That man! He never told her! Firstly he's married and coming after her... He also has a son?

What level of ignorance! If she had fallen back for him, she'd have to ruin a whole family. The mother devastated and the son would suffer from trauma.

Animal! She cursed. Argh!

She really wanted to slap him across his perfect face. To leave a mark there.

"Let's go in."

"Hold on a minute," Qingran sprinted out, and ran out. "Bye!" It was loud enough for Xueyan to hear.

Zhaolin waved back. A smile appearing on his face.

Xueyan stumped her feet, what was he still doing out there? She wanted to go out there and drag Qingran in. But no, she didn't want to see that man again. His lying face. He's a big scammer! He would come all the way here to please her and go back home, to have s.h.i.+ya sleeping soundly in his arm.

He had even kissed her... And they had slept on the same bed. Looked her in the eyes and said he loved her.

She nervously wiped her lips, disgust on her beautiful face.

That man! He would have been sentenced to death by her, if she had the power to do so.

Her hands balled into fists. Scammer! Scammer!! Scammer!!! She screamed in her head.

Qingran came back in to see the anger on her mother's face.

What happened? Her mother have never looked this scary. "Mom, are you okay?"

No answer.

"Mom?"

"Mom?" Qingran shook her mother with her little strength. "I asked if you're okay." Qingran said when Xueyan turned to look down.

"Yes, yes. Let's go." She pressed the elevator b.u.t.ton and it took them up to their floor.

Xueyan gave Qingran a warm bathe and took hers. They went out and her mother served them.

Yuxi was long done eating and was busy with her laptop.

After their dinner, she tucked Qingran to bed and the little girl easily fell asleep. She was tired out, from playing at the park.

Xueyan took out the three doc.u.ments from their room's closet. By then Yuxi had kept the laptop away to charge.
