Clearing her throat, Professor Brown opened the paper and read it. I watched as she stared at the paper in confusion before speaking, "Carter and Melanie, you're needed in Mr Franklin's office!"
Confused, I stood up and grabbed my books before leaving the cla.s.sroom with Melanie following behind me quietly. We walked down the huge halls in silence and I ended up letting Melanie lead the way since I had no idea where Mr Franklin's office was. We turned down a small hallway. There were no other doors on this hall except one. Melanie placed her hand on the k.n.o.b before pus.h.i.+ng the door open. We stepped in and I looked around the huge office in shock as I stared at the other group of students who sat here. Sitting in the chairs were Sarah, Mikey, Kimberly, Dillion, Liam, and Kasey. I wanted to run towards them and hug them all but I had to realize what was really going on.
"Melanie and Carter, have a seat!" Mr Franklin said. Slowly, I sat in the desk next to Sarah and waited for him to continue to speak.
"I have picked 8 mutants who are quite similar in many ways to train and be apart of something spectacular!"
"Like what?" Liam asked. I looked over at him. He looked the same. He wore his brown and navy blue uniform like everyone else except his jacket had white marks on the front that scratched out the Zims Academy logo.
"You're all connected in many ways and I believe that with you all working together as a team, you could be the strongest!"
"How are we connected?"
"There's something special about you 8 and it is something that we can't figure out but it is odd that you all are born one day after each other!"
"I'm not here to be apart of a team," Dillion yelled from the back of the office.
"Mr. Franklin," Sarah started.
"Call me Bob,"
"Bob, I just came to graduate so I can just go off into the real world! I don't think we'd work well together as a team! I barely know them except for Carter,"
"I figured you'd say that!" Bob spoke. He tossed a newspaper on the table and the rest of us quickly leaned forward to see what it was.
"Murder or Suicide? Body found outside the gates of Zims!" Melanie read out loud.
"At first we thought that it was suicide but we know that it is not!" Bob answered.
"How do you know?" I found myself asking.
"The body had been choked by something but there were no fingerprints and the item that was used was not on the scene and it still hasn't been found plus the body was frozen,"
"Frozen?" Mikey asked.
Bob nodded, "It was inside a huge block of ice and that is when we realized that it was a mutant who killed this one! There will be a curfew announced in a few hours because whoever it is could still be in Zims and we don't want anyone getting hurt!"
I felt a chill run down my spine. Sarah stared at me in confusion for a few seconds before slowly turning her head back towards Bob.
History was repeating itself.
"I think if we can get some of the strongest mutants to become a team and train them that you guys could maybe help figure out who is doing this?" Bob finished.
"This is a suicide mission!" Liam exclaimed.
Mikey jumped up, "I agree with him! You're the adults! Do it yourselves!"
"I will do it! I'll do anything to save anyone!" Dillion said while standing up. Mikey scoffed and pushed him as he fell near me. He placed his hand on my arm and gasped.
"You're as cold as ice!"
Everyone in the room turned their attention towards me. I stared straight ahead and didn't say a word to anyone. Sarah quickly pushed Dillion out of the way and bent down towards me. She placed her hand on my forehead and sighed.
"She's been ill lately," She explained.
Mikey touched my arm, "She's freezing! I don't think it is normal to be that cold!"
"Humans aren't supposed to be that cold!" Dillion yelled.
"We aren't human!"
"We are! We are humans with powers so that makes us mutants!" Melanie explained.
"Are you okay?" Sarah whispered to me.
"What is today's date?" I asked.
Mikey squinted his eyes and looked at the calendar, "May 17th,"
I jumped up and ran towards the door. I could hear the rest of them running behind me. I ignored their calls and protests and opened the front door to the school. Running down the stairs, I stopped in front of the huge golden gates.
"What are you doing?" Melanie asked as she stood behind me. Rolling my eyes, I placed both hand on each of the gold poles before tearing it open. I squeezed through it as Melanie's eyes widened while she stared at me from the other side of the gate.
"Move!" Mikey yelled as he squeezed through it. I ran. I kept running and running until I made it to the familiar street where my home was. I could hear everyone else running behind me. I slowed down as stood directly in front of my home.
"Why are we here?" Liam asked while huffing and puffing.
I walked forward and pushed the front door open. I looked around the living room and everything looked normal. I slowly walked into the kitchen and it still looked the same.
"Mom?" I called out.
Nothing.
"Something doesn't feel right," Kasey whispered.
I turned around, "You can feel when something is about to happen! Do you feel danger?" I asked.
"How do you know?" Kasey gasped.
"Answer the question,"
"I don't feel any danger here," She replied.
Nodding my head, I slowly made my way up the stairs as they followed behind me. I looked at the pictures that hung on the wall and smiled softly at them. I stopped when I realized that one of the pictures were missing. Sighing heavily, I opened the door to my bedroom to see that it still looked normal.
"I'm going to look over here," Sarah whispered. I nodded. Closing my bedroom door, I opened the door that was across from mines. It was fit for a boy. There were many posters around the wall that contained many planets. I stared at one of the planets that was on the poster in confusion. I had never seen it before.
Suddenly, I heard a scream. I ran out of the room and towards the room where everyone stood. I pushed them out of the way and gasped at the sight in front of me. Lying on the floor of her bedroom in her own blood was my Mother.
"Mom?" I called out while bending down. I touched her and she was as cold as ice. I sniffed as the tears rolled down my cheeks. I was too late.
"We need to call help!" Dillion whispered before backing away from the door and racing down the stairs. I stood up angrily and marched down the stairs as Bob walked in the front door. I watched as his eyes widened at the blood that was all on my uniform.
"I'll join this d.a.m.n team but I want who killed my f.u.c.king Mother!" I growled at Bob. He stared at me with wide eyes as Sarah slowly pulled me away from him. I turned faced her and she gasped.
"Carter! Your eyes are white!"
"I don't care about that! I want that a.s.shole and I want him now! Do not expect me to focus on anything else except this here!" I told her before turning back towards Bob, "Teacher or not, I want you to find the a.s.shole who did this so I can give him what should've been done decades ago!"
"Decades?" Liam asked.
"Carter, what are you?" Melanie asked.
"You're worst f.u.c.king nightmare," I replied before storming out of the house.
