He didn't know whether he had died or still alive, but the pain on his chest told him that he was still very alive. It would be very cruel if he still in pain even when he died.
He groaned and tried to raise his hand to block the annoying light when suddenly a shadow fell on him, covered the light.
With furrowed on his brows, he tried once again.
At first, he couldn't figure out what the 'thing' that covered him, and then that 'thing' gradually had an outline, it was a shape of human… a girl… a little girl from last night.
Gong Xu let out frustrated complain as the girl leaned over to hear his words better, she mouthed something that he couldn't understand.
"Why are you still here?" Gong Xu said it clearer now. The girl answered him, but he wasn't able to catch her words.
Apparently, it was a long explanation as the little girl used her hand frantically to help her deliver her reason, so Gong Xu could understand her better.
The thing that she didn't know, even she did that, Gong Xu wouldn't understand what she said the moment he closed his eyes and the world became silence once again.
Gong Xu let the girl talking as he tried to get more rest, he needed it. Once he regained his strength he would leave. He had saved her life and what happened to her next wasn't his responsibility again.
That was all depend on how she strived for life, because that's what he did too.
His sister had died, the only person who truly care for him and now, his dearest father had sent more people to hunt him down, because he knew too much and involved too deep in his plan.
All this time he had ran away from them while trying to atone for his sins, maybe someday he would find peace like what his sister always said, though he doubted that.
Those children actually would be sold to Mountain Sui Sword Sect, the place where the Emperor of Azura and his father, Modama, ran their abominable plan.
By ruined this, he felt he had taken a small step to revenge his sister, despite the fact this small action wouldn't stop the entire plan, but he wouldn't make this easy for them.
"Water…" Gong Xu said, still closed his eyes, but he was sure that the little girl could hear him because not long after that, he felt something on his lips and fresh liquid ran down his throat.
While she was insisting to stay than he would make use of her then.
After his thirst had disappeared, he fell asleep again.
Some time between his conscious unconscious stated he felt the girl gave him water so he wouldn't be dehydrated and when the weather became too cold, he felt a warm quilt was draped on his body to keep him warm.
He drove back and forth from his unconscious state until one night, Gong Xu opened his eyes and looked his surroundings.
He was still in the same place like days ago, as he didn't know how many days he had pa.s.sed out. But, the dead body of the bandits had disappeared, probably the little girl had done something about it.
He moved his body slowly, the pain was bearable now as the wound started to close, trying to sit down.
It was another cold night and the quilt on his body gave him warmth. Gong Xu scoured around, seemingly the little girl had tidied up everything as there was two horses were tied on the nearby tree and a pile of stuff on the other side.
She must have had gathered the bandits' belonging to be used to aid her. Such a clever girl.
However, where is she now?
As if replying to him, Gong Xu felt someone came closer, he couldn't hear their footstep, but he sensed their presence.
After a while the girl appeared from the bushes while holding a basket of water. She had changed her expensive dress into a man robe that looked bigger than her body.
"You are awake!" The little girl exclaimed.
At least that was what her bright expression told him as he made out her words by reading her lips.
"You must be hungry." The little girl said again while pulling out something from her pocket. "I found these grapes there." She put the grapes on Gong Xu's palm as she gave him a gla.s.s of water.
She stared at him with her big round eyes as her cheeks stained with dirt. She didn't like a girl from a prestigious family, probably the dress that she wore before wasn't belong to her, but her fair skin and the way she talked and brought herself said otherwise.
"Who are you?" Gong Xu glanced at the grapes on his hand before he put his attention back to the girl. "What's your name?"
The smile on her face widened. "I am Senja. What's yours?"
"Write down your name." Gong Xu threw a dry branch toward Senja as he was too tired to focus on reading her lips.
Senja looked at the dry branch and Gong Xu's face back and forth with furrowed. "My name is Senja." She repeated her name.
But Gong Xu didn't give a response for that, he determined for her to write down her name on the ground.
"You can't hear me?" Senja tilted her head curiously. He looked fine in her eyes, but maybe he was indeed had problem with his hearing.
"Write your name!" Gong Xu yelled, he was annoyed by the way she looked at him.
Startled, Senja hurriedly took the dry branch and write down her name on the ground. Just like what Gong Xu thought, she was indeed from respected family, because not any girls around her age would be able to write their name with fine stroke.
"Senja." Gong Xu read it and tried to recollect his memory. "The granddaughter of Commander Dam from black sword clan." He said.
'Senja' wasn't a common name, so the only girl from prestigious family that was named 'Senja' that he could recall was only the granddaughter of Azura's Commander.
Senja was a bit shock when she heard that, she didn't have any idea that the man before her knew her ident.i.ty, but to think about it again, her grandfather was a famous person in this country.
"Yes." Senja nodded slightly, but her eyes dimmed.
"What are you doing here?" Gong Xu asked suspiciously. "It is impossible for Black Sword Clan to lost their mistress to the mere bandits."
Senja gave him a sheepish smile. "No." She shook her head. "My step mother sold me."
"Write." Gong Xu averted his eyes from her, looking at the other direction.
"Huh?" Senja was befuddled, writing her name was fine, but to write a long sentence wouldn't be efficient for a conversation.
However, in the end she did what Gong Xu told her.
"She sold you?" Gong Xu asked incredulously, after he read what Senja had written on the ground, probably he read it wrongly.
