Since the accident in the restaurant, Shen Yi had directed his focus on Lu Xinyi’s safety and had asked Qiao He to lessen his meetings with clients and partners until the problem was resolved. This also meant that he’d be personally picking up his wife at the academy whenever he finished the day’s work early.

A cold glint flashed in his eyes when he was reminded of the investigation report. It was more likely someone had tampered the gas system. The signs pointed to the fire being caused by an auto-shutoff mechanism in the liquefied petroleum line that malfunctioned, allowing cooking gas to vent out and acc.u.mulate in the kitchen.

Turning on any electrical device, even a light bulb, would be enough to ignite the leaked gas; a lighter or a match had the same effect. Before the explosion happened, Lu Xinyi and Han Yixin had just finished their training at one of the restaurants affiliated with the academy.

Lu Xinyi and the rest of the kitchen staff took their break outside, chatting with the other waiters; and they came back to the kitchen, with Zhang Qing on tow. The faint scent of gas had reached Zhang Qing’s nose and had realized what happened when they were gone.

It was too late for her to stop everyone as one of the kitchen staff ignited the oven, causing the explosion that shook the restaurant.

It happened too quickly. Zhang Qing had managed to remove her outer coat and wrap it on Lu Xinyi before covering her from the smithereens of the explosion.

Waiting inside the car, Shen Yi ignored the flocking students near the entrance of the academy. His mood only improved when he spotted Lu Xinyi making her way towards him. She knocked on his window, and he lowered it slightly.

“Get inside,” he told her, his eyes taking in her smiling face who still looked at him with love and adoration. However, her shoulder-length hair reminded him of the accident.

Shen Yi suddenly felt his hatred rising as he thought how would lose Lu Xinyi and her smiles if Zhang Qing hadn’t saved her on time.

Lu Xinyi slid inside the backseat and scooted next to him.

“CEO Shen, you even have to pick me up at school? Say, do you have a secret crush on me? My husband would be very upset if he finds out about this.”

Shen Yi’s thin lips curved as he saw Lu Xinyi’s face which seemed to have been kissed by the afternoon sun and to be wearing that mischievous smile he fell in love with. He remained calm even though he wanted to kiss those pink lips that teased him.

“This is a misunderstanding. I’m sure your beloved husband wouldn’t mind sharing you with me today.”

“Hmm…” Lu Xinyi scooted closer, one hand reaching up to hold his chin, forcing him to look at her. She finally found something interesting to do right now.

As Shen Yi looked down at her eyes curved into smiling crescents, he held his breath as she brushed her soft lips against his.

Shen Yi lifted a hand and placed it on her forehead, startling Lu Xinyi.
