As I faced the enemies, who I would never have faced in life, no fear came to me. I wielded the longsword my liege trusted me with in a single hand, pointing it at the enemies in front of me.

To my right and left, my old brothers and new brothers also faced the overwhelming enemies fearlessly. The newcomers had lifeless eyes, like dolls, while my other brothers already had signs of recovering their consciousness.

My name is Albert. This name is one of the very few memories I have left from when I was a living person.

Aside from that? I remember the face of a woman, carrying me in her arms. A middle-aged man, teaching me how to read, write and count. A village engulfed by flames. The corpse of a man in a pool of blood, killed by the rusty knife in my hand. Me and some men, chatting and laughing by a fireplace in the wilderness…

A young man in rough clothes, waving his hands while on the ground.

I seem to be the one that remembers the most of my life among my brothers, even if what I remember are only those few images. I'm not stupid, so I know that the one I serve is the one that took my life.

While thinking about these random things, I charged at the enemies, followed by my brothers.

The enemies had more numbers than us, better equipment and better training. The three leaders were also stronger than us. Their momentary shock was enough for us to approach fast and render them unable to build formation, but they were still much more powerful than us… By Martial Artist standards…

But we had something they didn't.

We were undeads, the children of our Lord.

As we clashed with the enemies, we put all of our body in the attack. We were faster and stronger than them because of our liege's magic. In the time they took to attack once, we attacked twice. When they blocked our attacks, they stepped back. When we blocked their attacks, a counter came in a flash.

Our bodies didn't move like a human's. We twisted our arms to the maximum our bones could handle, pressure on our joints didn't cause them to break, our ghoul endurance is remarkable.

Even while outnumbered, we still had the upper hand.

Trading blow with blow, me and my brothers attacked our enemies. Our recklessness scared them, and their attacks faltered…

But that only lasted for a dozen blows.

Seeing the eighteen martial artists weren't enough, the two captains and the Magus acted.

The first attack from one of the captains felled one of my brothers, while the other captain cut off another's arm. The magus summoned a ball of flames, and that single attack felled two of my brothers, they became a charred mess.

We had lost three of ours, and the other side lost none…

But their sudden upper hand produced the gap we wanted.

The seven of us that were left moved and attacked the nearest enemy with our swords.

Naturally, our attacks were blocked, but our next action was to drop our weapons and reach for our pockets.

Our hands flashed, and a gush of blood came out from our enemies armpits, where the weakest part of their armor was.

That hit was fatal to mortals, and a few subsequent stabs reaped their lives.

This was a strategy I still had inside my mind, like all the raw knowledge I possessed before. Our pockets were deep, and we each hid a dagger in it, out of sight. The best weapon for a sneak attack.

Unexpected, Undetected.

With that single attack, seven enemies were felled. Two other brothers were felled by the enemies counterattack.

"Regroup! Build formation!" One of the captains screamed.

So, the time finally came…

The enemies regrouped and formed a circle with the three leaders in the core, they raised their s.h.i.+elds firmly and stuck them together. When they did so, a transparent barrier was raised, that protected them from all directions.

They had time to gather their formation, something we had avoided at the beginning of the fight. Their barrier is weaker than it should be, however, since it seems the s.h.i.+elds came in a set, and this isn't their full power.

But the five of us that are left, still didn't feel any fear. We reached for the nearest enemy corpse and ripped off and arm or a leg. Like beasts, we ate their flesh and blood which became our nourishment. Our necrotic energy was regenerated, and our wounds were healed. We didn't even have to eat the whole limb.

Seeing the gruesome scene, not only did the enemy feel fear and disgust, but our ally, Sir Artmer, also puked on the side.

Truth be told, each of us also felt this was disgusting. Human meat already doesn't taste good, but this meat wasn't even cooked. Also, even if we are undead now, we still feel human. None of us were cannibals in life.

But none of that matters. Those were orders from our liege.

The one that took our life.

The one that gave us Immortality.

Our Father!

Our G.o.d!

Our Lord!

Each of us took one of the red spears in hand, and black flames appeared on their tips after receiving our Necrotic Energy.

"For our Liege! Attack!" I screamed, my war cry resounding through the forest.

ROAR!!!

Roaring, all five of us jumped through the trees, diving at the enemies with full force. Our spears rebounded on the barrier, but we kicked it and went back to the trees, borrowing impulse to dive again.

Our momentum was ferocious, we looked like five black lights jumping in and out, ripples formed in the barriers, but only a few tiny cracks appeared…

Then the three leaders moved.

The yellow spear of a captain moved almost as fast as sound, attacking two of my brothers through the barrier. They were hit on the head and fell instantly.

The black great sword of the other captain swept through another two of my brothers. One was able to block with the spears, but the sword shone with a black light and its momentum increased. The spear stood strong, but my brother's arm broke and he was bisected by the blade. A following attack did the same to my last brother, he was cut in half and fell.

I was the last one remaining, and the Magus had its eyes on me. He sneered through the barrier and waved his hand thrice in great speed. His casting was much more fluid than my Liege's, as expected from someone that must have been taught by many tutors since childhood.

But I didn't back off. I would never, and neither would my brothers.

Not only because I am an undead. But for my liege, in whom I believe with all my heart.

Once, as we headed towards the city, before meeting Sir Artmer, he told me one thing.

Albert. You are a warrior now, not a bandit. A warrior follows the path of the blade, battle and glory. A warrior either fights for his beliefs or does not fight at all. If he retreats, he has forsaken his beliefs. I know nothing about you, or what you believe in, but we will be together for a long time, possibly forever. So, while fighting alongside your brothers, remember this chant. It is the chant of a true warrior…

I know very well my beliefs; I know they have been with me since my previous life.

To live and survive…

To be by the side of my comrades and laugh…

To remember the face of those that gave me life…

My brothers are now undead. My life is my liege's…

My liege is the one that gave me life among death.

As I saw the hands of the Magus lit up with fire, I knew that fearsome spell was heading towards me. If I die, my liege won't be able to raise me again easily… if he does so at all.

But my belief in him is strong, and under my breath, I chanted as I charged towards the darkness I saw once.

"Glory!"

I screamed with bloodshot eyes as the fireball headed towards me.

I swung the spear in circles, trying to disperse as much of the attack as I could. But when it clashed against me, much of my flesh was burned even after blocking some of the attack. My black bones could be seen in many parts of my body, and my flesh was on fire.

"Majesty!"

I landed on the barrier, plunging the spear on it, putting in as much Necrotic Energy I could without destroying my arms.

The spear clashed with the barrier, and many cracks formed. My bones cracked with the overload of energy, but I still attacked.

The spear and sword of the captains came at me, I couldn't even see the spear coming, while the sword aimed at my head.

"Unity!"

Through sheer instinct, I managed to take the spear in my chest, even though it was aimed at my head, but now the sword was going to split me in half.

I bit the spear with my teeth and freed my arms. One grabbed the spear and stuck it to my chest, while the other was ready to receive the sword.

The sword clashed with my arm, and as expected, even my ghoul arm that was protected with Stoneskin couldn't do much, but it deviated the sword's trajectory far from my body at the cost of my arm.

"HAIL!!!"

An incomprehensible grumble came from my mouth, as I pierced the s.h.i.+eld with the spear again. I poured all of the Energy I had left on this attack, my skull cracked, and I could feel parts of my brain exploding, while my teeth couldn't handle it and directly shattered. Energy leaked through holes in my head. But I stayed conscious through sheer will, and fell, gripping the spear only with my bleeding gums.

As I fell, I landed directly on the Captain that had a spear on my chest. My own spear was pointed at his head as I fell.

I hoped I could pierce the b.a.s.t.a.r.d's head, kill the captain for my liege…

But I was hoping for too much.

The captain was surprised, but still avoided the spear. But, probably by luck, I could leave a scratch on his cheek.

I fell on the ground. The last of my consciousness was fading.

I could see the sneer of the captain, but as I looked at his sneer with anger, a spurt of blood covered my face.

There was an arrow in the captain's head. A blue, icy arrow.

When I saw that arrow, I immediately also felt energy filling me again. Many wounds on my body were healed, and only a few fatal ones were left, but I wouldn't die just from that with my undead vitality.

But that was enough. That arrow was the proof I didn't let my liege down…

My Lord has finally joined the battle.
