A m.u.f.fled sound rang out.
The arrow dropped from the sky and pierced through the center of the cantaloupe and because of the angle, it looked like a flag was directly inserted from above the cantaloupe.
"Outstanding." Prince William stood up and applauded.
It could be seen from the trajectory of the arrow, this shot was clearly more difficult than Covington's and Tang Yan completed it perfectly.
Campbell sat in his seat unmoved. How could he feel like applauding?
"Campbell, what's the name of this archer again?" Prince William turned and asked.
Seeing Prince William turning to him, Campbell stood up and barely squeezed out a smile as he replied: "Tang Yan."
"Tang Yan hmm. Both of them performed very well. Let's meet them." Prince William said as he walked in the direction of Tang Yan and Covington.
"William." Campbell yelled, he didn't expect Prince William to be so interested.
But Prince William didn't seem to hear him and carried on straight ahead.
Two members of the Palace Guard immediately came forward, following the prince.
Campbell was forced to follow, and the other marquises and counts, as well as the amba.s.sadors, immediately followed.
Tang Yan had already walked back to his spot. When he saw Prince William and the amba.s.sadors coming.
"Haha, wonderful performance, Alan Covington, Tang Yan, those were amazing shots." Prince William was in a good mood and said with a laugh when he came to them.
"Thank you sir, it's my honor." Covington said modestly, and bowed as he spoke.
"Thank you." Tang Yan's reaction was much more bland. Although he had managed to hit the cantaloupe, he naturally still wasn't pleased about having the odds unfairly stacked against him.
Seeing Tang Yan's expression, Prince William couldn't help but look at him for a while, full of curiosity.
At this time, someone brought up the cantaloupe that Tang Yan had shot to them.
Making a comparison between the two shots, although the angles of injection were different, the depths were the same, it was hard to call who shot better.
Originally, this was just an archery exhibition. It didn't matter who had the better archery skills, but with two people performing, it was inevitable that there was comparison and compet.i.tion.
Prince William took another look at the cantaloupes and said, "These cantaloupes look a bit big. I've heard that the apples in the orchard have just ripened. I wonder if we changed to apples, would you both be willing to repeat the shot?"
Hearing Prince William's words, Covington froze and looked to Campbell unconsciously. Obviously, this was not a part of the plan.
"William, at a distance of 150 meters, a cantaloupe looks almost the size of an apple, if you replace it with an apple, it will basically be a small dot." Campbell interrupted.
"This...." Prince William glanced over at the stand 150 meters away, at which the fruits were placed.
"I can try it." Tang Yan suddenly interrupted.
He wasn't generally interested in showing off and being that guy but Prince William's proposal actually caught his interest.
He wanted to test his current limits.
But his words put an incredulous look on Campbell's face.
"You actually want to try it?" Prince William looked excitedly at Tang Yan, as someone who loved sports and testing the limit, he was naturally hoping to see an exciting performance.
Tang Yan nodded and said, "But I'm going to need to change bows. I only have a recurve bow. At such a long distance, it's not accurate enough."
"Prince William, a recurve bow is generally only used in compet.i.tive games, because of its limited range it's rarely used for such performances. The compound bow he's using has a longer range, more stable accuracy, and is overall better suited for such a shot." Zhuang Jiajie said, appearing next to Tang Yan as he pointed to Covington's bow.
Campbell hearing Zhuang Jiajie's words instantly interrupted unhappily: "Who are you?"
"He's my agent. We were invited by the prince to partic.i.p.ate in the exhibition game. I thought that made us VIPs?" Tang Yan looked over at Campbell and said indifferently.
"You!" Campbell was speechless for a while. He suddenly began regretting inviting Tang Yan.
"Duke Campbell, please." Prince William said shus.h.i.+ng Campbell, before turning to Covington directly, and asking quietly, "Is he telling the truth?"
In front of Prince William, Covington didn't dare to lie, and nodded saying, "Yes, your Royal Highness."
"What a ha.s.sle. I know that an archer is at their best using their own bow and although your bow is better, it seems a bit small for Tang Yan." Prince William said, touching his chin.
Covington was only 16 years old, he was a size smaller than Tang Yan. The bow he used was also one size smaller. Although it could still be used, it wasn't really suitable for Tang Yan.
Prince William was about to send his men to look for a suitable bow.
When the sulking Duke Campbell seemingly suddenly thought of something as he said smiling: "William, I remember Her Majesty the Queen just sent you a bow not long ago."
"Ahhh, your right." Prince William exclaimed in remembrance, but he soon shook his head. "That bow is old, although it works, it's probably not suitable to use."
"It's her Majesty's gift, I'm certain there won't be any difference." Campbell continued.
Prince William thought about it and then turned his head to the guard behind him, before turning back and saying: "I'll have them get it but I'm not sure if it'll work so I'll also get them to look for a suitable compound bow. "
"Your royal highness is very thoughtful." Tang Yan said with a smile. With the experience of his previous life, he could easily tell that the person who dug a whole for him wasn't the prince, but most likely the duke beside him.
The prince's quarters weren't far from here,so it didn't take long for the guards to return.
In his hand was a longbow. It looked vintage, strong and rough. It looked like it was made of Yew wood.
The quality standard for wood in bow making was divided into seven grades: yew wood was first-cla.s.s, osage was first-cla.s.s, mulberry was second-cla.s.s, orange wood was second-cla.s.s, papaya was second-cla.s.s and bamboo was also second cla.s.s.
This bow was made of the finest yew wood and even at first glance it was clear it was very valuable.
