However, what she didn't expect was for Sia to directly challenge her. Usually doctors that were called to the department were fl.u.s.tered and scared and they did not differentiate right from wrong. Especially those who came for the first time would normally be scared stiff in fear of having their qualifications revoked. On the other hand, Sia was able to stay cool and a.n.a.lyse the whole situation despite not being informed on anything before. If she wasn't dealt with in here it would be Elisabeth facing problems afterwards. And this was the problem that caused cold sweat breaking out on her forehead. Though that person had such big authority, it was clear that she didn't like failures. Hence, she couldn't afford to lose in her battle against Sia. She had to deal with her whatever it took.
"When doctors are so incompetent as to not even be able to perform something as simple as an aneurysm clipping then all we have to do is to get rid of them. We can't afford to have such lose ends in our ranks. It's a question of trust and reputation."
Sia chuckled lightly at her words. So all of this was done to obstruct her path as a surgeon. It was a defamation attempt, but, alas, their efforts were futile.
Elisabeth was a textbook example of a white lotus given the righteous way she talked and blamed others. If someone outside the field heard her, they would think that Sia was the most incompetent doctor there was to be. However, even if she made a single mistake that wouldn't make her incompetent. Doctors were also humans and they could also make mistakes.
Moreover, in this case she was truly innocent. Not only had she performed the surgery successfully but also the recovery was a success. Additionally, the woman was not even a doctor herself but she talked as if she was one and this was an annoying point in the system: people like her shouldn't be in such positions. She was supposed to console the patients' families and not incite them. Sia was even starting to doubt whether Mr Jonathan had a stroke at all or not.
The two women were baffled by what was happening: they had been told that the doctor would be dealt with in a short time and they would receive a big sum of money after they were done acting. However, this young girl here didn't seem to have any desire to give in. Even if they didn't understand all of the contents of the conversation it was still obvious that Dr Illes didn't take the bait and she wouldn't be so easily defeated. Uneasiness crept in and they started panicking about the development of the events. They had no idea who was the one orchestrating all of this farce but if the person was not good enough they would be implicated for falsely accusing and defaming a doctor. If it came to that stage they would rather not have anything to do with this situation at all. They could victimize themselves and act as if they were forced.
It felt like both women had the same thoughts as the mother and daughter pair faced each other and nodded at the same time in agreement: if sh*t hit the fan they would just wash their hands away.
Elisabeth on the other hand was feeling indignant because of Sia's reaction.
How dare she laugh at her!? Who did she think she was!? She wasn't going to be nice anymore.
"Is your failure so funny Dr Illes?"
Siana's lips curled into a lopsided smirk. Looking straight into Elisabeth's eyes she deadpanned her in a confident way:
"I am laughing at you and your twisted logic here, manager Elisabeth. Do you even know what aneurysm is, why it needs a surgery or how the surgery is performed? Do you even know what intracerebral hemorrhage is and what are the causes of it?" Her gaze sharpened instantly and her expression turned heavy, "I wasn't so sure in the beginning but your flawed acting and illogical conclusions make it easy to see through your real masks. I am a doctor and have patients to attend to, so I would prefer to wrap things up here as soon as possible. Now the question is: how did I offend you or someone else for you to make all this farce?"
Elisabeth fumed at her question, her face instantly turned red because of her rage while the other women turned ghastly pale as they were caught in act.
Who said that this woman was immature, demure and meekly? She was a devil in angel's clothes, okay? They tried to trap her but every word of her served as a bigger trap than their own.
The two women understood the severity of the situation much better than Elisabeth. Jonathan's aneurysm was in a tricky place that couldn't be treated by a neuroradiologist. So all they could do was to refer him to a neurosurgeon. And their neuroradiologist was in awe after Dr Illes' surgery. He, himself, said how well it was done and that even the incision made was minimal. He had nothing but praises about her technique and her approach. He even expressed how it would be nice to work with such skilled and smart people.
While it was true that Jonathan suffered from a stroke but it was because of his hypertension and obesity. The doctors said that if it wasn't for the surgery Dr Illes had performed previously he would have died straight away from the severe lack of blood to the brain. So, in reality, not only did she not cause the stroke, but also saved his life twice.
Nonetheless, here they were, trying to outwit a genius that had long defied the natural order of doing things. She was a neurosurgeon at the age of 22, how could they belittle her intelligence!?
However, even before they could speak Siana continued her fierce attack,
"I have recorded all of our conversation from today and my lawyer is currently listening to our conversation. Moreover, while you were incessantly talking nonsense I had my colleagues in Northern Hospital retrieve the patient's history. They are currently on their way here. So, now I will give you two choices: either you sink or you spill the beans. It's up to you to decide."
The three in the room felt like they were in some kind of a nightmare: when did they lose control of the situation? How did it come to this stage?
Elisabeth was still the one with the most ambition and the biggest fear of failing her mission. So she quickly collected her thoughts and retorted with a snort,
"And do you think we would believe just anything you say? According to you you have done so much during this time but how come we didn't see you making a call or anything? Do you take us for fools, Dr Illes?"
Sia smiled slightly at her and raised her hands from under the table. She held her phone in her hands and without even looking at the screen she opened the messaging app and showed the message thread of her and her colleague. By the end of the message she had even wrote to her him to send her three empty messages once the task was done as she couldn't read at the moment. And they could all see those three messages. At the same time they could also see the ongoing call and the recorder that was still on.
Not paying heed to her trembling figures, Sia repeated her question for the second time,
"So do you choose to sink or to spill the beans?"
