The morning of the next day quickly came. The cla.s.ses for the first years would be conducted on the first floor of the tower. The students also had the chance to eat their breakfast free of charge in the dining room on the ground floor. Since the majority of them were commoners, the Academy was covering the basic needs for the first years. Although this privilege ceased to exist afterward, one could meet many uppercla.s.smen there. The reason for this was its low cost considering the quality of the food.

"Hey, Henry! Wake up! We'll be late!" John was shouting at the sleeping boy who didn't seem to want to open his eyes. It was already six in the morning, meaning that they had only two hours before the beginning of the cla.s.s.

'Forget it. Don't blame me if you end up with an empty stomach...' he thought as he proceeded to leave. The moment he opened the door, he was greeted by the appearance of three boys who were talking to each other in the corridor.

"Morning, guys."

"Oh, you are alone. What about the big guy?" Reece asked upon turning to see who called them.

"He is still dreaming. He didn't wake up no matter how much I tried." John replied as he shook his head.

"Well, yesterday was a hard day. It might be better to let him rest..." William commented with his trademark smile.

'What a compa.s.sionate man...'

"Good morning, John!" an energetic youth shouted. His name was Stanley Hurst, a commoner who came from a merchant family. The bins he was wearing were making him look a little funny, but this guy was in reality, pretty smart.

"Do you want to come together with us? We are heading toward the Tower for breakfast."

"Sure. I wanted to go there anyway."

"It seems that my worries were pointless..." Reece said as he put the cheese upon the rye bread.

"We are lucky we found an empty table. This place has so many people!" Stanley also commented as he looked around with amus.e.m.e.nt.

"This place's food is popular, especially to the commoners. I went yesterday to Elisha to ask for information about the Academy. She told me that I would be surprised when I see what they serve at noon..." William added.

"That sounds interesting. Did you learn anything else?" John asked as the previous statement piqued his interest.

"Well... When I asked her about the Rat-cla.s.s, she didn't answer, but I still remember her sympathetic gaze. She only told me that after my first lesson, I would naturally know. I still don't understand what she meant though..." the boy replied with an awkward smile.

"I see..." he muttered as he continued eating. He was ready to guzzle the egg he was holding in his hand when a sudden voice stopped his actions.

"Where the h.e.l.l have you been? Didn't you tell me that we would eat together?"

'What an idiot! It was a golden chance for you to spend some time alone with your girlfriend...'

"Hey, mister Silver Knight. Can you not curse me in front of other people?" John said mockingly to Vladimir who had appeared, holding a tray with food. He then looked at the orange-haired girl who was beside him apologetically before he opened his mouth.

"Good morning, Helena. We didn't have much time to talk yesterday. How are you?"

"Good morning, John. It's a pity that no one from us is in the same cla.s.s. By the way, may I ask you a question?" She asked shyly with a red face. Her cute appearance attracted the attention of the boys sitting at the table, but her next comment froze all of them on the spot.

"Sure, what is it?"

"Please, never call Vladimir with that hateful nickname again. Will you do me this favor?" the girl asked with a sweet voice, but John would swear that he saw a dragon rising from behind her.

"S-sure. Oh, I almost forgot. Alright, guys. This is my brother Vladimir and his girlfriend, Helena. These three young men are William, Stanley, and Reece who is, by the way, a n.o.ble.

The boys frowned upon seeing the heroic youth with his long silver hair who looked like a divine warrior that descended from the heavens.

"You said that you are brothers?" Reece asked with doubt.

"So, how are you, Helena? Almost a month has pa.s.sed since the last time we had talked..." the brown-haired boy opened his mouth, pretending not to hear the question of his peer.

The pig-tailed girl's eyes gained a momentary gleam as she sat naturally on a chair and started talking. Minutes after minutes pa.s.sed quickly, but she didn't seem to have any intention to stop.

'c.r.a.p, I forgot. When did I become so stupid?'

"Wait for a second..." he shouted with some desperation. When he saw that the devil stopped, he hurriedly talked under the hopeful gazes of the rest of the group.

"Did you just say that you almost defeated your examiner in the test?"

It wasn't a question he only asked because he couldn't endure anymore that endless monologue. He hadn't forgotten that Helena was taught about magic by Vladimir only one month ago. If what she said was true, even his brother's talent which is unrivaled among those on his age is nothing at all compared to hers.

"I told you, John. When it comes to magic, she is a prodigy. She was cultivating her mana unconsciously and even managed to use magic without even knowing the basics. Her mana capacity isn't inferior to ours. She needs combat experience though..." Vladimir remarked as he looked affectionally at the girl, making her feel bashful.

"Are they mad?" Stanley whispered.

"Probably? I was trained in both magic and martial arts since I was five. I wouldn't even think of defeating a teacher."

"No, they aren't lying. Elisha told me that John defeated a teacher during the test. Don't underestimate him. He is the strongest in our cla.s.s. What I don't understand is why they didn't put him in the Dragon-cla.s.s..." William commented with a mysterious smile.

At last, the time for the lesson to begin came. The students of the Rat-cla.s.s were sitting in a small auditorium, waiting anxiously for the delayed teacher to arrive.

"Why you didn't wake me up?" Henry asked with a little anger. By the time he got up from the bed, it was already about time for the beginning of the cla.s.s. He had to run on the way to come early, not to mention that he was hungry since he didn't have breakfast. He was about to continue nagging, but the cold glare of the brown-haired youth silenced him immediately.

"I tried..."

"..."

"..."

"Sorry?" the muscular boy couldn't endure the awkward atmosphere anymore as he hesitantly apologized, only to see a triumphant smile forming on the face of the youth. He wanted to rage, but the entrance of the teacher didn't give him the chance.

"It seems that you are having fun!" a fat middle-aged man said with a laugh. John remembered him as one of the examiners of his test, although he was only observing and not fighting.

"How funny! A batch of small rats dare to be happy in front of me. Hahahaha!" a mad laugh escaped from his mouth, making everyone in the auditorium to be creeped out.

"This is a trash-cla.s.s. For outcasts that miraculously pa.s.sed the test, but n.o.body wanted them. A cla.s.s to get rid of the annoyances that are not needed in the Academy. That is what the Rat-cla.s.s truly is. You dare to be happy?" The faces of the students started to change color. The man's smile became wider as he stared at the brown-haired boy.

"It's nice that we have an elite together with us. Mister John Smith, you are a talented person that unfortunately provoked miss Daniela, the teacher in charge of the Phoenix-cla.s.s. You didn't believe that she would leave you like that, right?"

John started to become worried upon hearing this. After all, he was the only one that injured his examiner.

"That's it from me. Do whatever you wish. I am going to sleep..." the man finally stopped talking as he left the same way he entered. Like a hurricane.

Sigh...

John stood up and headed toward the exit. He didn't seem to care about the frozen like statues students around him. His steps were slow and steady.

'So it's that kind of cla.s.s. I didn't expect that...' the youth thought. He seemed to realize something for a moment, as he touched his face with his hands.

'f.u.c.k! I am too happy. I can't even hide my smile!'
