My name is Adeyemi and many describe me as an arrogant b.a.s.t.a.r.d, not like I care… okay maybe sometimes I do; after all I am human. I put in a lot of

work in being so successful and I am not going to let anyone take advantage of that. Wealthy as I am, truth be told I do feel a part of my life is lacking; I can't pinpoint exactly what makes me feel this way. I don't know if you can understand what I'm really talking about but this feeling wouldn't go away.

It all started when I turned twenty-eight and now reaching the threshold of thirty-eight—the nagging sensation only intensi ed. Sometimes I do think time is playing a mean trick on me. I do my best and all, but I am beginning to wonder if I have truly lived.

After a hard day's work, I decided to visit a bar not far from my cold, tasteful o ce. There I was chilling, engrossed with my blackberry. Just so you will know, I am a workaholic by heart and I can't seem to worry about anything other than my business, work never ends.

I took a few gulps of beer then back to my demanding phone. The sound of a lady's voice caught my attention, I could tell she was angry. She had a voice that was husky and a bit bold, it was not the kind I liked. I needed to mail a client and I couldn't think because of her endless yapping. I swivelled back, actually vexed at her inability to stay level headed.

She was pet.i.te and had a very narrow waist, her long brunette braids pecked her b.u.t.tocks and from the dramatic motions of her hands, I could tell she was one of the crazy ones. I tapped her shoulder but she wouldn't even acknowledge my presence. I bit my lips trying so hard to control myself—I was determined to get her attention.

"Lady!" I called, rm and authoritative; the kind of tone women listens to. She turned, her braids swaying with her. She faced me, a heavy frown on her face. She had glistening black eyes, a small nose and round lips which puckered in b.l.o.o.d.y red. She's not the kind of woman I would be attracted to; she was just the cute kind of girl. Nothing special!

"What?" she widened her eyes.

"Your voice is loud" I stated. I needed to stand my ground and not get carried away by her stern gaze, women respected a man with authority. Although the expression on her face was enough to make a grown man shrink in intimidation but I don't scare easily.

"Let me call you back, there is this idiot disturbing me," she hanged up, hands on her waist and her feet impatiently tapped the oor "oh I am sorry, is this your place or your bedroom where you need silence?" she asked.

"You don't actually know me and shouldn't talk to me in that manner, this is a place where people come and unwind, not to listen to you yap on the phone like a lunatic" I said. She clapped her hands in amazement, and her nose squeezed in a funny way.

"See this stupid sombori. Wait! Who do you think you are talking to?" she rolled her neck, feisty all of a sudden "I am not one of those ashewo you can talk to anyhow. If you think you craze, no bring am come my side because I go mess you up!" she said. I glanced back just in case she was talking to someone else, I couldn't believe the guts of this little woman. I blinked several times nding it really hard to believe she was actually speaking to me.

"Do you know who I am?" I asked, almost shocked to death by her rude comments. No woman has ever talked to me in that manner, no one dared speak to me that way. This woman must be out of her mind.

"You be wizkid brother or Buhari son?" she asked. It was the most ridiculous question I have ever heard in my life, what did she even mean? How did that relate to what we were talking about? She was just too local, no cla.s.s at all. In my many years in life I didn't think I would actually talk to a madcap. I spent most of my life s.h.i.+elded from those kinds of people, my parents were busy preparing their only son to take over a multi-million Dollar company.

"I can't even…" I rubbed my temple

"That is what I thought" she rolled her eyes at me, "I know your type, all those ajeb.u.t.ter that think they have the right to bark orders. I will advise you, if you want to last long in life, mind your business or you will just see someone will just spoil your ne boy", she hissed before walking away. I had this immense urge to grab her hand and demand she not walk out on me. I was the one who did the walking out; no one tries that with me and she had the audacity to give me advice, that... Arghhhhhh... I was so angry!

I adjusted my skirt, anxiety made me sweat. I stylishly sni ed my sides and was grateful for the deodorant I almost forgot to apply. The sound of the elevator made me jump. I touched my large bun, just to make sure it was in place. Quickly I made my way to the small s.p.a.ce. I was grateful I was alone and used the opportunity to adjust my bra, which was beginning to droop a little. It was a reminder I had to go shopping soon. I was depending on this job interview and will do whatever it takes, even if it was to manipulate my way. Hey! I am not that kind of person but the economy doesn't a give a cow's yansh, so why should I? OYO (on your own). I inhaled sharply as I felt my heart thumped against my chest, I did a nal adjustment of my new suit.

I have been unemployed for far too long, if I don't get a job soon I will lose my mind and that was something that will eventually happen but I wasn't ready now; I still have a lot to do. Finally, I think G.o.d has answered my prayers. My childhood friend who I had just met recently, informed me of this recruitment. I was surprised on how deluxe the company was and had started to doubt if I could land the job of a secretary.

I was intimidated by the other women waiting for an interview at the reception area, my suit looked cheap compared to those women that crossed their legs in style without a bother, they probably had lots of options. I looked at the white ceiling and did a short prayer, I had to get this job.

"Oyinkansola Badmus!" someone called. I jumped, my doc.u.ments spilling on the plain rug, I bent with shaky feet and trembling hands as I put my les back together. I followed the woman as she directed me to an o ce in the corner, I inhaled sharply before I opened the door. The o ce was nothing like I have ever seen, it had a certain openness attached to it.

There was gla.s.s table which was occupied by gadgets and a black mug. It was so tasteful I felt out of place—the delicate interior design unsettled me. I s.h.i.+fted in my comfortable shoes. There was a man on the phone and he stared through the gla.s.s window, which had a superb view. So this is what wealth looks like? I thought to myself. I cleared my throat and by the sway of his chair, I could tell he knew of my presence.

The chair turned and immediately I gasped almost fainting, Yepa! The witch in my village has followed me once again. I wanted to die and hoped the ground would swallow me whole. It was the man I had insulted at the bar; I just froze staring him as if he was a ghost. My mother always warned me about my yeye mouth but I never took her serious, turns out she was right as always.

I shuddered as I couldn't nd the courage to move, maybe he wouldn't recognize me, I allowed myself think but from the shock on his face I knew better.

"G…gooood a…afternoon sir" I nally spoke, where I got the strength from; I will never know.

"Oh, you mean morning" he swivelled in his chair, obviously he enjoyed watching me squirm like a worm draped in salt. I nally met my doom!

"Yes"

"This is a surprise; life has a way of making one pay. Don't you agree?" he asked and I nodded biting my lips, I sighed then felt my head churn with ache. "I am guessing you came here for an interview, am I right?" he interlocked his ngers. The evil grin on his face almost made me s.h.i.+t my pants. I nodded in agreement. There was no way in h.e.l.l I was getting the job, I was very aware of that fact but I decided to play along with the mad man! What was I to do?

"Yes"

"Have a seat" slowly I made my way to the leather chair in front of him, he was watching me like an owl so I kept my eyes locked on my feet, "let me have a look" and quickly I handed him my folder, my toes wriggled in my at shoes and my bra felt like it was su ocating me.

"Oh I am even surprised you went to school" he said, eyes scanning my resume. I bit my tongue as I let that comment go. "Are you sure you graduated and this is your credentials Oyin?" he asked, my name sounded alien by the mention of it.

"Yes I did" I frowned, anger subsiding my fear "Most might say I am intelligent" I plastered a fake smile, he stared up at me then back to my le.

"Might! I see why you used that word" he snapped at me and my smile fell, I secretly eyed him and a loud hiss followed; all in my head, of course.

"How did you even know about this job?" he said with a little hint of surprise and mockery, I wanted to roll my eyes at him—it took the grace of G.o.d to keep my face blank.

"A friend of mine informed me"

"What's her name?"

"Maureen, we actually lived in the same neighborhood back when we were kids. We recently just met" I blurted out.

"Oh now I remember, she told me someone was coming by. I thought Maureen had better taste in friends but what do I know?" he shrugged, with that comment I wanted to hit his head with the black mug and punch him so hard he will die from pain, but I was going to be a better person by walking away. If I should show him what I am made of, I will de nitely end up in jail. I wasn't going to cower at his feet because of a job, yes I needed it but this man is a psychopath. I wasn't going to get the job anyway—so why bother taking his insults. I took my bag and turned to leave.

"Where are you going?" he asked stunned.

"Where does it look like I am going?" I responded, my voice hard. I took in a long breath; babe calm down I warned myself "I am going out" I said slowly.

"Why?"

"Why not?" I blurted out then bit my tongue.

"You got the job" he ung my CV on the table and folded his arms "not as secretary but as my personal a.s.sistant" he said. I nearly pa.s.sed out but slowly I made my way back to the seat and sighed in dissatisfaction. I was supposed to be happy but I knew working for this man was a death sentence. I got to think about the money that was the most important thing, right? I swallowed my surprise and pride.

"When do I start?" I asked.

"NOW!!!" he narrowed his eyes on me.

The Oyin girl never ceases to amaze me; yes, she is a hard worker but still, I held a little grudge against her, she has to learn. I think in the next few weeks, I can shape her to a very compliant employee, not that I want to make her my puppet that would just make me seem crazy—I will just bend her to my will. I am just saying you know, she has to comply with the Simon-says-rule; It is every employers dream. I make her work twice as hard and most times I spent it watching her every move, she's got re in her eyes, the will to achieve—not that I am stalking her or anything. Men of my style don't do that, I am just observing.

Okay I must admit, I do admire her but not in that way, am saying this from rational point of view. Although she is very emotional and I couldn't possibly understand how and why she thinks the way she does, but I gotta say; I am slightly impressed. She is di erent and challenges me without even knowing it. Yesterday she made me laugh by making funny remarks about a client, I might say she has a good sense of humor.

It drives me insane that I can't predict her, she is a bit of everything; especially crazy. I want to know her thoughts, which made me eager for answers. I was curious about her lifestyle, not that I cared. She was my new obsession and yet my frustration, do I make sense?

Oyin walks with an att.i.tude and that smug on her face is just simply adorable… I take that back! I meant to say exasperating. I can't begin to explain how she makes me feel. I don't like her if that is what you are thinking, never! She is not my cla.s.s; we can never happen!

I can't possibly begin to describe how much my boss drives me barmy, I didn't think h.e.l.l existed on earth till I met my him. I have worked for some really insane people, but nothing compared to Mr. Adeyemi-the-raging-madman, at least that was what Bintu called him after working hours. I believed in karma and it made me think I must have o ended someone in this life or the previous one, to have landed this job. It has been weeks working with him and I had begun to think, I would die of exhaustion. I would have left but the pay is so good.

I know how much he can't stand my presence and trust me the feeling is mutual. The way he talks to people is quite unbelievable—they are right you know…. he is an arrogant b.a.s.t.a.r.d and that is why he is still single, who would want to live with such a man? How do I know he's single? Well I just stumbled on the information, not that I asked—okay! I asked but it is not what you think. I just wanted to know, I got curious.

I can't believe I'm telling you this, but sometimes when he gets on my nerves. I go to the bathroom to cry, not because his words stings but the fact I can't do anything about it; kills me. Can you even imagine how I feel? Reminds me of my days in secondary school when I was bullied, so I grew tough and used words as weapon, without it I have nothing.

I took in a long deep breath as I brought his morning co ee. He was looking sharp as always. Most might say he is handsome and if I squint hard enough; I think he might be, without thinking of his att.i.tude of course—he might seem like a decent human being. I placed the black mug on the table and he glanced at me then back to his gadget. He grabbed his co ee, then took a quick sip and paused.

"What is this?" he asked. I was irritated by tone; what kind of question is that? It's my p.i.s.s I thought to myself.

"Co ee!"

"What do you mean co ee? This is the most awful thing I have ever tasted" he placed the mug back on the table "I want no sugar, go fetch me another one" he looked away with a heavy frown. As I reached for the cup it was tempting to smash it on his head, but I nodded in restraint.

"Why is there no cream?" I watched him take a sip of another cup of co ee I made, hoping this time I wouldn't hear one of his unreasonable outbursts.

"You don't take cream"

"Well I want it today" he said. I went out and came in with four mugs, one with no cream, one with sugar, another just plain and the fourth involved the three mixtures. He stared at me, with his mouth open. I smirked as I turn to leave.

"Nice try" he cleared his throat "but I think I am in the mood for tea"

I turned to face him and there he was, smirking like a d.a.m.n fool. I had enough of his ego. I marched to his table, anger steamed inside me with the promise to erupt.

"You sel sh b.a.s.t.a.r.d!" I yelled. He widened his eyes in surprise, and frowned in confusion "I can't stand you and your unreasonable demands. In case you are wondering why you live a boring life, it is because you are one big 'moraf.u.c.ker'. Why are you this spoilt eh? You are so arrogant, so selfabsorbed, I think you are going to live a lonely and miserable life. No one can stand this insanity of yours, no one!" I pointed violently at him.

"You can't talk to me that way, I am your boss!" he said rmly, I could tell my words had struck a nerve. Good! That was what I was aiming for. I wanted to see what this bigheaded b.a.s.t.a.r.d could do, than hide behind his cold composure.

"Like the white people will say, f.u.c.k you and I quit" I moved closer to him—stepping away from the table and facing him with no barrier between us. He stood glaring down at me, his jaw line ticked with impatience. He was so tall and masculine; how come I had never noticed this before? I stared at him in triumph, I wanted to see what he would do. Finally, I had broken that façade—maybe he wasn't a robot after all.

"No one quits on me!" he said.

"Well, watch me" I turned to leave but he grabbed my arm and pulled me to him, I collided with his hard frame, the nearness was maddening. I felt every inch of his body, his breath on my forehead and the poignant way he looked deep into my eyes, it made me weak with want. I actually thought I was coming up with a fever or something, there is no way I can be attracted to him, no way!!!

"You drive me crazy woman" he said then drew me in a hot kiss which left me breathless, my heart pumping so hard I felt light headed. What was happening? Why did he kiss me? Was someone playing a prank on me? If the situation wasn't so serious I would have laughed, this left me speechless and I am never short of words. Burning pa.s.sion seared in my bones and melted deep within my soul. I grabbed his head and indulged him in another kiss.

Indeed, we are both bonkers!
