Akila looked up at Charles and scooted closer to him. She laid her head on his shoulder and started sobbing. Charles looked surprised. He made an empathetic smile and wrapped his arms around her. Akila didn't say anything and wrapped her arms around his neck. She cried so much that Charles vest sleeve was soaked by the time she calmed down.
Akila and Charles had started walking again. It was evening now. Stars had started appearing in the sky. They were on a path that led from the village. They were walking in silence, till they heard soft footsteps behind them. Charles pulled Akila into the trees. Soon a girl with black hair and a boy with brown hair walked past. Akila leaned forward to get a better look but she fell. The sound of the leaves startled them. The girl and the boy looked over. They didn't see Akila and Charles, but they saw them. The girl seemed to have red eyes and the boy's seemed to be yellow. They disregarded the sound and continued walking. Akila sighed in relief. Charles looked at her and scowled.
"You need to be more careful! They could've seen us!" Charles said. Akila looked p.i.s.sed.
"Why are you yelling at me! I just wanted a closer look!"
Charles looked away and stomped off. Akila's face changed. She started to follow him. " Charles, you don't just walk off from this!" She said to him. Charles immediately turned around.
"I just don't want to lose you! Who know who they were! Maybe they were looking for you! I just don't want you to get killed or... or something," Charles said to Akila, his voice dying done from anger but to sadness. "You're one of the only living of our species. I don't want to be alone anymore..."
Akila looked at him sympathetically, "Charles, You will never be alone. I'm right here. If something happens, I can defend myself. And if I need help, I know you'll be there. Now, maybe we should set up camp. We can just sleep in the trees or just in the gra.s.s."

Charles looked up the first tree and shook his head. He sat down on the ground. "Let's sleep down here."
Akila nodded and sat next to him. She laid down her back to him. Charles looked at her. He smiled. He laid down, his head up to the stars.
