I took the keris that the old man handed me and instantly I felt that the keris had gained some additional weight than before. There was a slight throbbing sensation to it as if it's alive or seemed to somehow try to communicate with my inner soul. I slowly drew out the keris and I unsheathed it.
The three brothers were looking at me silently unawares that the keris that was emitting a slight glow and the throbbing sensation was only seen or felt by me. I handed Cheng the keris and told him to check it out.
"Seems normal to me but I think the keris after it had gone through the ceremony seemed to be cleaner and there wasn't any speck of rust anywhere around the curvy blade," he remarked after scrutinizing it closely.
The other brothers took turns handling the Keris and yet had not found any abnormalities to it. The moment the keris was in their hands, I noticed that the keris had returned to its normal state is just a blade with a hilt and no significant aura was noticed when it was in their hands. The moment the keris was handed back to me then it returned to its glow and throbbing sensation.
"Keris is with the owner. The power within released. Others use no power and strength. Just metal blade feeling." the old man explained as I held it close to me and sheathed it back.
"Now go meditate. Keris in hand. Go...." the old man instructed and I picked myself up and slowly headed straight to the darn rough circular shaped mat made by strands of coconut husk at the gazebo that would instantly p.r.i.c.k one's b.u.t.t after sitting on it.
As I slowly positioned myself and sat down on the mat, I held the keris in my right hand and closed my eyes to cleared my mind and enter a state of blissful, peace and serenity. I gripped the middle of the sheathed keris and began my meditation. My left hand was holding on to my left knee as usual.
A few moments later I could feel the keris and me were somewhat entwined and became one body and one soul. This was an indescribable sensation when the keris merged. Soon, visions of a fierce hand to hand combat soon took over the darkness of my mind. I was suddenly faced off with two shadowy opponents and was performing some low and mid kicks towards a formidable enemy while parrying off attacks using my elbows and hands towards another. In short, I was soon having a triangular sort of sparring session with those two opponents at the same time, attacking me from both angles.
I managed to hold the upper hand of being in an advantageous position where none of the opponents would be able to subdue me or in any way put me in a life-threatening position. With the keris in hand, I became more confident and was able to time my attacks and defense effectively.
Within an instant, I transformed from a noob with little or no knowledge of the martial arts right into a full-blown hardcore martialist! Visions of the earlier battle were etched in my mind and it seemed that I had learned the movements of stances, attacks, and defense all from my form of meditation. I 'downloaded' the sparring session into my memory bank and thus I managed to learn moves that I had never learned before. The agility of a cat, the speed of a cheetah and the attacks of an Eagle that was swooping down to earth from the sky above!
Then I felt the keris was in my hand and was performing slashes at the mid abdomen and stabs at chest level of the two opponents. I was basically crouching and springing on the backs of my heel as I sprinted towards the opponent and performing leaps and bounds that I had never thought I could execute. and it too evaded my attacks.
I slashed my keris from the right to the left at one opponent and I deftly used the momentum to twirl around and delivered a spinning back kick using my left leg. The opponent was kicked in the midsection and stumbled backward. I then took the opportunity and leaped high in from of it and delivered a slamming kick on the head.

The opponent disappeared with a puff of light smoke.
I sprinted to the other opponent and delivered a flying kick using my right foot. It too stumbled back and when I landed I back kick using my left foot. Then I made a small leap to alleviate my body and aimed my leaping roundhouse kick at its head. Upon landing, I executed an almost smooth crescent kick towards its head again.
When the opponent was staggering to gain its balance, I surged forward; gripped its back of the neck and trusted my keris upwards into his midsection and straight up into the chest cavity.
The opponent looked up and then it too disappeared into a puff of smoke.
After some time I regained my composure and after the adrenaline rush, I slowly returned back to my meditative of mind.
I squinted my eyes as I slowly opened them, half expecting to see wild opponents jumping towards me to avenge its fallen comrades.
My back was covered in sweat and beads of perspiration dripped from my forehead. I slowly opened up my eyes and wiped the perspiration that had covered my face with the back of my hand.
"Fuyoooh...! It was intense! I felt as though I was in a real battle!" I slowly stood up after the vortex in the center of my forehead subsided and gingerly made my way to the old man.
" Master I had visions of hand to hand I armed and armed combat with two opponents. I did not manage to kill both of them but I did, however, to be able to land a few kicks and punches to both and I think I severely injured them at close proximity." I said excitedly like a kid who had gotten what he had wished for Christmas!
"Keris is good. Full of power. It can kill spirits and evil. No harm towards living thing." explained the old man and I was suddenly gripped with a frown look." What's the use of this weapon if it cannot kill someone or something?!? "I thought to myself and I immediately unsheathed the keris and thrust into the Thigh of a person closest to me.
STAB....!!!
" OOII...OOII... OIIIII... WHAT THE F*CK ARE DOING!!?? YOU DUMB F*CK!!!" screamed Ding who was, unfortunately, sitting closest to me. The Keris that was held like a dagger thrust with full force and penetrated deep till it reaches the hilt into Ding's unprotected thigh. He looked at me pale-faced with eyes as big as a saucer and gripped the front of my s.h.i.+rt in wild surprise with both s.h.i.+vering hands. I slowly withdrew the keris out from Ding's thigh. "ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FREAKING MIND...!!??" he exasperated shouted as the blade of the keris slowly was extracted from his thigh and was seething his teeth with eyes that looked like terror and surprise!
After the keris was totally extracted from his thigh; Ding looked at the state of his entry wound that was penetrated by the keris earlier half expecting large open wound that needs almost immediate attention from paramedics that had stood by behind the set. Eh... This is wrong....he looked at the keris' penetration earlier and was half expecting a large wound that needs almost medication from the old man in forms of traditional medicinal herbs and such.
" EH.....! No blood and no wound! Nothing happened lah!!" he exclaimed while showing his thigh to the rest of the brothers. Except for a small tear on his pants indicating the entry made by the keris earlier, his skin and thigh were perfectly unscathed. There was not a drop of blood nor was it a scratch at all!
"YOU CRAZY F*CK! YOU SCARE ME YOU LITTLE SH*T! DON'T YOU COME NEAR ME WITH THAT THING...!!" he screamed at the keris I was holding and quickly scooted back and hid behind Cheng.
"Whoa... This is the keris mentioned by the old man that said this keris will not harm another living thing. A keris that would not kill!!" remarked Cheng with a wild astonishment in his eyes while patting and consoling Ding not to be like a crybaby. He then gave a thumbs up to me and nodded his head in approval to the little unexpected experiment that I had performed on his second brother.
"Aiyah... Don't cry la. Be a good boy ok? Look, I never hurt you right?" I said while spreading my hands. I knew that if I asked his permission, I would be refused flatly and no one would be my sacrificial lamb for this experiment. Also, I just made a wild guess that since the keris was mentioned not able to harm humans, so the next following step is to try it on an unsuspected someone. And that someone happened to be poor Ding.
"Still... Don't you dare come near me and try it on me again!" cried Ding as he hugged Cheng from behind and hid his sorrowful and tear stained face away. "I am not a Guinea pig you know nor I am a pig at all. Next time poke yourself la..." he sobbed while Eun can't help but stroking his head just like he was doing it to the merchant's horse the other day.
Guess the little experiment had left Ding with a slight psychological defect. I am sure a trip with a certified psychologist afterward would help ease him up. Hmmm... Eh, wrong again.
So it is the beginning of the end of the introduction of the Keris that would not kill and the end of the beginning for this multi-part series. Tee hee hee.....
So back to the main core of the story.
