Chapter 4003 Breaking Free
*Bang!~*
Davis didn't even look at the dark wraith. It exploded right as its claws were about to reach him.
The black-white stone roared into existence as he was finally able to reconnect with it. It was already tied to his soul, but he couldn't sense it in the mental realm. That old witch, Lilliana Rayton, had sealed his senses to the limit, trapping him within the mental realm. He thought buying time would eventually help him reconnect with it, but it was useless, and he felt danger near him.
Most likely, Lilliana Rayton exerted her powers to the max and only concentrated on reviving a single dark wraith out of the many in the fifth level, wanting to kill him as soon as possible.
Therefore, he was only left with the option of using Fallen Heaven, which he still had a grasp of or trying to harm Vereina enough to escape the mental realm.
After all, the mental realm was created using Vereina's soul essence. That's also one reason the old witch could not easily harm him. Her powers didn't go far off of Vereina's even if she exuded a monstrous pressure. It affected his Will, more than his soul, but his Will was extremely strong, making him practically invulnerable.
He couldn't reveal Fallen Heaven to an old monster, so he chose to stab Vereina, holding back as much as he could, but it still ruptured her soul essence and, consequently, the Violent Punitive Soul Physique.
Nonetheless, death energy receded after killing the dark wraith, and life energy poured out, all sinking into the depths of Vereina's soul sea and encasing her soul essence.
He quickly began doing his best to heal her soul physique and bring her back to health. Hit with a life energy that was nearly at Level Eight Empyrean Stage, Vereina's ruptured soul essence began quickly fusing back. Such a sight was nothing short of miraculous. It would cause many to scream in awe if they saw it with their own eyes.
Within thirty seconds, he actually restored her ruptured soul essence, thereby also reconstructing her Violent Punitive Soul Physique. He instantly checked her off any foreign influence, but he couldn't find any, even with his enhanced senses.
"Vereina… Vereina…"
Finding nothing strange anymore, he called out to her. He guessed by rupturing her soul, he also killed any influence that the old witch had on her.
It was good, but it was unknown if it was good for Vereina.
"Vereina…!"
He repeatedly called out to her, looking worried as he shook her body. Just as he wanted to call out inside her soul sea, which he was avoiding initially because he didn't want to give her extreme shock and cause her to go into a coma, her eyelids quivered gently.
Laying in his arms and resting her head on his shoulder, she slowly opened her eyes.
Her face was pale, but the healthiness slowly returned to her face. She couldn't help but softly smile at him.
"This isn't the reincarnation… cycle… is it…?"
Davis chuckled lightly, "No, we survived. We're back in the fifth level again, mostly devoid of her presence. I doubt she can reach us here other than being barely able to control those dark wraiths."
Vereina's body shook lightly as she tried to laugh but couldn't. She could only barely swallow her saliva, trying to wet the dryness in her throat and the lingering fear in her soul.
While Vereina tried to recollect her bearings, Davis suddenly opened his mouth.
"Sorry about the violent treatment. I had no other way."
Vereina shook her head, "It's fine…"
"You asked me to believe you. Although I was shocked and scared, I still… believed you. I have the greatest Saint by my side, after all… What's there to fear over a soul injury, even if it's critical…?"
She smiled smugly as she gazed at him.
Davis's guilt was lessened by her words. He couldn't help but nod.
"I'm sorry for causing you to go through this madness, but well done for enduring that evil witch. I'm proud of you."
Vereina nodded back. Her cheeks increasingly became rosy.
"You did well yourself."
Suddenly, Fallen Heaven's voice resounded in his soul, making Davis blink.
"I almost got discovered by her senses. The more time pa.s.sed, the more she would be able to force your soul to fall into a disadvantage. It was not your territory, after all. You were really playing with your life back there over a game of wits with an old monster like her."
"What- really? Then, even without those dark wraiths cleaving me, she might've switched places with me with enough time and had those weapons impaled on me…" Davis was speechless.
Of course, he was exaggerating, but if she really did find a way to get him to the Shadow Dimension through the Whispering Rift, he didn't doubt this would happen.
This time around, he really did feel like he gambled with his life.
"Yes, with enough time, her aura would've flourished inside you from Vereina, and she would've eventually found- oh."
Davis was listening to Fallen Heaven, but suddenly, Vereina's lips were on him.
Her veil came undone, and she kissed him lightly. Her lips didn't even move; she just touched his lips with fondness.
After two seconds, she moved back her head and reclined in his arms again, seemingly satisfied, but her eyes were watery and her cheeks incredibly rosy.
"You…" Davis was speechless. He was caught off guard while talking to Fallen Heaven, "I almost killed you. What are you-"
Vereina placed a finger over his lips, shaking her head.
"Even if I was killed, it would've been better than being controlled and made to face a fate worse than death. I don't wish to be like that s.l.u.t, you know. Besides, I held to you for dear life… never having thought how rea.s.suring it would be to have a man by my side in this cruel world…"
Vereina's lips quivered, her eyes lacking clarity, "I don't wish to close my eyes anymore. I know what my heart wants… and it wants you…" "
"…" Davis wanted to reply, but she pressed her finger on his lips firmly.
"But… I know you don't wish to harm me with how you only have l.u.s.t for me and not love. I respect that side of yours. Let our kiss remain as a memory of a lifetime. I am… satisfied… but if you don't like it, seal your memories if you want to…"
Vereina softly said before her finger dropped, and she sunk, her consciousness receding as she fainted.
Davis gawked. Seal his own memories?
"You arrogant…" He smilingly scoffed.
Did she really think she could steal a kiss and tell him to forget about it? She was as selfish as the time he first met her. It made his chest filled with anger, yet he couldn't bring himself to chide her.
She had fainted anyway. It couldn't be helped since she had almost died. If he had delayed healing any longer, her physical souls would've shattered, and her spiritual souls would've left the world.
He stared at her beautiful face and eventually sighed, wondering what he was going to do with this lonely woman.
