"But this took centuries of fear and time for civilizations to rise and fall. And before that happened, the elves who wors.h.i.+pped nature and it's G.o.ddesses saw the Foxkin as the truth of nature, of both darkness and light."
"The Elves created a great friends.h.i.+p with the Foxkin, until war struck. A civil war, as many elves had given themselves to darkness, becoming the Drow who wors.h.i.+pped Lolth."
"Others pursued the light and became arrogant, calling themselves high-elves, but everyone else called them the Bright Elves for their appearance. Ordinary elves became Wood Elves, for they still remembered how they were once plants, and respected nature."
"In that dark hour, the Wood Elves sought out the Kitsune to protect them from these two extremes, and the Kitsune rescued them, leaving the elves kingdoms to splinter into many pieces."
"In a rage, the G.o.ddess Milaki, high G.o.ddess of nature and peace, decreed as thus: 'None shall establish their rule of the entire elven species lest they be crowned by those who kept my peace.' In other words, the Kitsune."
"So the next imperial lineage would be decided by the Kitsune... but they declared that only if one had gained approval from all species of elves would they be crowned, for they 'had no right' to interfere, whatever a G.o.d said."
"And perhaps this is what truly killed the Foxkin, for now the elven leaders began to fear the day one of them crowned an elf to rule all their races, which further divided into more separate kinds. So when the humans struck, and every common elf who saw the Kitsune as allies and those chosen by the G.o.ds, the rulers and politicians craftily s.h.i.+fted blame and attention, leaving the Foxkin to die."
What was I supposed to feel? How was I supposed to feel hearing this? A tale so ridiculous yet obviously true, with the betrayal of not just my kind, but their own peoples desires because of a simple thing their G.o.ddess said long ago?
Was I to be angry, bittersweet, exasperated? Yes I was all those things!
"As the humans invaded and slaughtered, the human G.o.ds struck the Fox G.o.d down from his divine kingdom, destroying it and injuring him. And so as he recovered, he could only watch his children die."
"So fell the Foxkin, who died out of fear, because many feared the magic they held, the position among the divine they had as a respected race even by the elven G.o.ds, and hated for their connections to the Abyss."

I knew that wasn't everything. Of course not. Doubtless many other reasons lost to time or held in the thousands of years Luna skipped were there.
But did it matter?
One fact shone through no matter how you looked at it.
The Kitsune never actually DID anything.
They never attacked, they didn't take advantage of this sudden G.o.dly decree made in divine anger, they didn't use their superior magic abilities to rule others. They died out of fear for something they'd never even showed they would do.
The rest of our trip was spent in silence, as I mulled over this heartless tale. My kind died for being too blessed? f.u.c.k you!
I was mad. I knew a few things about me already that would make me scary in comparison to a normal Mage. Spell casting speed is just one part.
The largest reason Touka couldn't use Healing Star is because neither of us could figure out a proper chant for it! I can create any spell I like as long as I understand its principle.
But everyone else has to spend lots of time figuring out the proper wording to carry maximum intent and shape it correctly. In other words, for me, spell crafting is easy. For others, it's a pain in the a.s.s!
"AAAAAAARGH!" I screamed suddenly at the sky, feeling a complex swirling emotion in my heart. Luna jumped a bit, and had a brief moment of panic, while Fenrir reacted a bit, but with less obvious surprise.
'No! Just get my mind off it. Ask Luna about how a spell caster typically gets through Blood Aura!'
Wait... that's actually a very good question. I've been agonizing myself over this, trying to find a way, but why not just ASK THE PERSON WHO WOULD KNOW???
'Uh... not to throw shade at myself, but I think I'm probably stupid.'
'Not to be rude, but I agree!'
'Hey! f.u.c.k all of you-I mean all of me! No wait that sounds wrong.'
"So Luna... how does a spell caster get past a warriors blood aura?"
She actually froze in shock, and even Fenrir shot me a look.
"You overpower it?"
'Ah yes... huh? Is that the only way?!'
My sweat dropped a little. What the f.u.c.k! I have to launch my full mana over and over again? Even with my mana regeneration, that's unrealistic against multiple foes!
"How does a spell caster fight against multiple enemies at once then???"
A small suspicion began to form in Luna's mind. "Sir... you said the Dungeon resurrected you right? But you lost most of your memories?"
Huh? Why was she asking this? "Yeah that's right."
"So... you do remember Blood Aura has a limit right?"
What limit? What the actual f.u.c.k are you talking about lady!
Seeing naught but confusion, Luna realized she had to give the explanation most 4 years olds got while learning what magic was.
"Sir... you can only put in an amount of mana into your blood aura equal to your durability at most."
I think I nearly dropped dead as I figured out what that meant. In other words, if someone has a durability of 12, if I put 13 mana into a WindBlade, it's guaranteed to cut through and hurt them as if it was a 1 mana WindBlade against a defenseless human?
I wasn't even moving at this point.
"Hey Luna?"
"Yes sir?"
"I'm a f.u.c.king idiot."
"Don't be cruel to yourself sir."
"Well it seems kinda true here. Anyways, we're about only a quarter there and night is falling. Tomorrow should we run with blood aura to increase our speed?"
"Yes, we can do that for bursts at a time. It might be good to practice high-speed maneuvers."
So we caught a rabbit(I just set off Fenrir, didn't even try to use my pathetic aim), and settled in for the night, setting up a rotation for watching the night. And so my first night away from the Dungeon pa.s.sed.
