Aker didn't even bother to listen to the announcer anymore since a while ago as it had no relevance to him any longer. When Aker first entered The Pit and started fighting in the arena, every time the announcer would p.r.o.nounce his crimes, he would be driven mad with frustration and anger.

Now no matter what ridiculous words came out of the loudspeaker Aker just calmly focused and thought on the upcoming battle.

Normally he would formulate his plan, and work through his strategy. While there were many different types of magic beast of varying strength and skills, they still came down to the same basic types.

If Aker was fighting for example a wind magic beast and fire magic beast, he would focus on trying to defeat the wind magic beast first while staying away from the fire magic beast. Typically, a wind magic beast would use wind to enhance its speed while the fire magic beast would have incredible strength.

However, this time Aker wasn't considering his strategy at all, he wasn't concerned with the type of beast that would emerge but was instead focused on his sword.

As the beast broke through the gate into the arena, the cheering of the crowd indicated that another glorious battle would take place with Aker at center stage.

The crowd had long come to love the thrilling battles of Aker as he darted and moved around the entirety of the available s.p.a.ce. His battle strategy, creativity and sheer determination drove them crazy with antic.i.p.ation each time the announcer called out his name.

What the crowd found most appealing and exciting was that no matter the magic beast or the number he was fighting, it seemed Aker was just barely strong enough to pull out a victory. As they would watch Aker fight each magic beast the entire crowd would sit on the edge of their seat as the battle unfolded never knowing what its outcome would be.

"Hey, looky there, it seems it's a wind magic beast and a wood magic beast this time, this should be a fun battle to watch, ya."

"Yep, that's the Light Toe Cheetah and the other is a Violet Furred Hound, both of them are especially nasty. I was here the other day when that cheetah there tore apart another fighter. Now that it's had a taste of blood it should be especially ferocious."

"Not only that but the Violet Furred Hound is nearly impossible to kill being a wood magic beast, it recovers faster than you can injure it and it's not nearly as fast as that cheetah, but it isn't slow either..."

Two especially strange men in the crowd were doing their own a.n.a.lysis of Aker's situation, one short and fat and the other tall, strong and burly. These two had been to everyone of Aker's fights for the last six months and had made a mini fortune extensively betting on Aker.

Outside of a few people who were extremely close to Aker, it was probably these two who understood Aker's fighting capabilities best. The short fat man and the burly man have become close brothers since they met at one of Aker's previous fights and now the two were inseparable. Everyone who saw them together agreed that there was never a better example of two people who didn't belong together. The contrast between the short fat man and the tall burly man was the same as watching a wreck, even though you didn't want to see it you couldn't take your eyes off it.

"What's he doing right now? Why hasn't he started running to get better separation from the Violet Furred Hound so he can take care of that Light Toe Cheetah alone?" The fat man was confused by Aker's actions.

"I ain't seen him act like this before either. How many fights have we watched this kid in now? It's been well over one hundred and this is the first time he just stood there as if though those two-beast bearing down had nothing to do with him." The burly man was just as confused as his stubby fat friend.

Both watched in dismay as Aker seemed oblivious to his surroundings. They had been taking the bulk of what they were winning and kept pressing their luck forward. At this point they were worth a couple of million franar which they all had riding on this kid. Unlike Sneed who felt deeply grateful and attached to Aker, these two just bet on him because it had been easy money. If they knew something was wrong with him coming into this fight, they would have bet against him.

As the first magic beast closed in on Aker their hearts were sinking as they could feel their entire fortune slipping away. The bitter tears were ready to flood from their eyes as soon as Aker lost his life, not for the death of Aker but for their pitiful selves. Never having a fortune, they would think nothing of the millions they had won, how could they understand what it meant, but after having had it and lost it there might not be a more devastating moment they had ever endured.

Suddenly, as the Light Toe Cheetah was within a meter of Aker, his sword flashed and before the mismatched twins knew what had happened, it was lying on the ground yelping madly.

Before they could call out in shock the Violet Furred Hound had caught up and leaped at Aker while his attention was on the Light Toe Cheetah. Without looking Aker took a step forward meeting the air borne Violet Furred Hound earlier than it expected and again swung his sword.

As if though it was trying to imitate the downed cheetah it slammed into the ground, one of its front legs disabled as the paw had been removed and was no longer battle worthy. Aker had long learned that in order to defeat a wood magic beast you had to either wear it down through attrition causing it to heal its wounds countless times or permanently remove a limb as it was unable to grow it back.

Without looking back, each step filled with confidence his walk full of swagger, Aker walked towards the gate that lead to the foyer. The battle lasted as long as it took for those magic beasts to traverse the distance from their entrance gate to the center of the arena, or less than a minute.

There was no nail biting, seat of your pants thrilling battle as Aker's fights had been historically. There wasn't suspense, screaming or heart pounding insane moves. There was only two swings of a sword and a couple of yelping magic beast.

For the mismatched duo they were letting out a heavy breath of relief as both thought that the kid was going to fall this time around.

"Hey, you ever hear that old saying be not afraid of growing slowly?" The fat man turned to his burly friend and asked as serious as he has ever been about anything in his entire life.

"Na I ain't heard of it but I'm thinking that's some good advice. We'll keep betting on the boy to win but let's leave enough in the reserves, so we don't feel regret when he loses." The burly man understood his compadre's thoughts perfectly agreeing whole heartily with him.

After Aker's fight Vance had walked him back to his cell where Vance patted him on the shoulder and left him with the words "I'm proud of you."

Aker could always feel Vance's sincerity when he spoke. Vance was not like Dr. Life & Death with no emotion, Aker understood that Vance was oozing with emotion, but he was a man of action and few words.

Over the course of the almost year now that Aker had been mentored by Vance, rarely did he give Aker any indication that he was doing well. Typically, Vance would point to Aker's failures and shortcomings with constant reminders that no matter how well he did there was someone stronger or that Aker wasn't nearly strong enough. The entire time Aker had been buried in The Pit Vance was in his ear reminding him that he wasn't doing enough. Practice harder, fight longer, be more aggressive, these were the words that filled Aker's head every day coming from Vance's mouth.

Aker understood completely why Vance was always pus.h.i.+ng Aker. never telling him he was doing "good enough". As Vance would always remind Aker "Dig the well before you are thirsty." What Vance meant was you must prepare beforehand, otherwise you would fail and The Pit had only one outcome for failure.

Vance would regularly remind Aker that it had been almost six months since the last time his enemy had tried to actively go after him. Neither he nor Vance could figure out what they were thinking or doing. Initially they had thrown him in back to back fights and tried to overwhelm him with beast that they thought were beyond his ability, however since that short stretch he has been fighting every day at the same time in the evening. The fights were getting progressively harder, just very slowly. It was as if though they were perfectly pacing Aker to grow strong at a predetermined rate.

Having Vance pat him on the shoulder telling him that he did a good job gave Aker a sense of accomplishment. Today's battle was the first time he had walked in and out of the arena since he fought against the Kulga and didn't feel that he had just fought with his life on the line. Even just yesterday fighting in The Pit he was fighting for his life as he scrambled across the arena grounds.

Aker began his sword sets as he visualized his battle with the Light Toe Cheetah and the Violet Furred Hound and examined his sword strikes and movements. His desire to beat those magic beasts changed everything for him. Not only did it feel as if though they were moving incomparably slower, but when his sword reached them, he was able to cut through without resistance. The thought of running while playing cat and mouse never occurred to Aker in today's battle, his only thought was to beat them as quickly as possible.

Finis.h.i.+ng up his two hundred sets Aker who was breathing hard under his heavy gravity laid down and just as expected his level displayed and he had reached Level 7 of his Peerless Body.

Looking over at his Skills he saw exactly what he was hoping for as he had seven skill points to allocate. Aker had been inching towards this goal for over six months and he had already planned out exactly how he was going allocate his skill points. Today's battle completely changed his idea as he was able to easily defeat those two-magic beasts. At this point it may not matter how many Level 1 Basic magic beast they put in front of him as he felt like he could handle dozens without issue.

That being the case he didn't need to allocate points to Agility, Strength and Vitality currently.... No, he needed to be focused on his long-term growth and abilities. Aker was looking forward to today's battle because he knew two things. First, he would get enough points to advance his Peerless Body after today's battle as he was only five points away. The second, when he was visualizing his battle with the magic beast and practicing, he was defeating them as easily as breathing air, he wanted to find out if that would truly be the case. Now that he could confirm it, he could focus on using his skill points differently than he had been planning.

"Finally, Level 7..."Aker spoke gently as he felt a sense of relief and accomplishment. He had struggled with this advancement even more at a mental level than physical. He had been left pondering repeatedly why he was gaining so few points for each battle when he was suffering so significantly. Barely sc.r.a.ping by, barely surviving, countless injuries and they were all because he was refusing to accept who he was, and he was scared to stand and face his enemy.

Every one of his senses and skills was slowed down and preoccupied with fear, loathing, frustration, and reluctance. It wasn't until he put all of that down that he was able to fully tap into his potential and display his abilities.

"Comprehension" "comprehension" "comprehension" "comprehension" Aker called out four times in a row and just as expected Aker's Comprehension increased by four points.

"Mana" "Mana" "Mana" Aker's mana increased by three points.

As Aker laid down on his beast blood stain, he was very satisfied with the day, especially as he saw his new skill points that hadn't changed in over six months.
