The news about her maternal uncle caused w.a.n.g Reiji to be frozen in surprise as her heart hammered hard against her ribcage.

Did she hear the Chairman's words right? Were her ears just playing tricks on her? Or was this the side effect of eating too much steak?

She shook her head in disbelief. The idea that her mother had a younger brother was not impossible. However, the idea that her mother's younger brother was here in Beijing and had searched for her mother was absurd.

Her mother's death was very controversial since she was the wife of an airline CEO who was rumored to be having an affair with his former schoolmate. Though w.a.n.g Reiji's biological father denied the allegations many times, it was proven to be true when he got married to his rumored mistress two years after his wife's demise.

Actually, that controversy had led w.a.n.g Daizhuo to her mother's grave. So how come this so-called brother did not find out about that? He could have at least contacted them, right?

Seeing the far-fetched look on w.a.n.g Reiji's face, Chairman Qin spoke.

"I know this one is a hard pill to swallow. But I suggest, you take time to read the doc.u.ments first and decide later."

Soon after the chairman had finished saying his sentence, a soft knock from the door grabbed their attention.

"It's me, Sho."

"Come in."

"Thanks, father." Qin Sho gently closed the door behind him before walking toward his father's desk. He was about to put the doc.u.ments on the table but was instructed by Chairman Qin to give w.a.n.g Reiji and w.a.n.g Yuvin a copy of the doc.u.ments each. After Qin Sho had distributed the copies he sat across w.a.n.g Reiji.

The instant she got hold of the folder, w.a.n.g Reiji started scanning its contents. The doc.u.ment in her hands was a compilation of posted letters, affidavits, and requests. The seal and signatures on the doc.u.ments seemed legit as well. However, there was one problem though. There was no return address.

w.a.n.g Reiji ma.s.saged her aching temples as she placed the folder on her lap.

"Looks like this thing about my maternal uncle needs to wait." She inhaled deeply.

"I have a long list of things I want to investigate first such as who caused the fire five years ago, why did the Old Prosecutor Zhang fake his death and why did he frame me for that." w.a.n.g Reiji said as she sat up straight and crossed her legs.

"I want to know what happened that night. That fire didn't just take away the lives of Yuvin's parents but it also destroyed all my mother's mementos." w.a.n.g Reiji licked her drying lips before she continued speaking.

w.a.n.g Yuvin's mother was previously a housemaid of the Xing family and the only friend of w.a.n.g Reiji's mother, Skyla.

When the marriage of w.a.n.g Reiji's parents. .h.i.t rock bottom, her mother started living with w.a.n.g Yuvin's family. During that time Skyla was slowly recovering some fragments of her memories, mostly childhood memories. Unfortunately, before she was able to remember them all she died of a sudden cardiac attack.

"But wasn't the fire reported as an accident?" Chairman Qin fixed his gaze at w.a.n.g Reiji.

"Well, that's what they want everyone to believe." w.a.n.g Reiji said as she put her right hand on top of her brother's hands as if borrowing strength from him.

"Are you telling us that it wasn't an accident?" The Chairman asked with a perplexed look on his face.

w.a.n.g Reiji nodded her head.

"Yes, it wasn't an accident. It was a carefully planned murder."

w.a.n.g Reiji's words caused the two Qin gentlemen to stare at her with confused faces.

"Reiji, don't get this old man wrong. But I thought you wanted to live a peaceful life? Didn't you say you won't exact revenge?" Chairman Qin sounded worried than confused.

"Initially, that was the plan. But ever since I found out that there were irregularities with the report, I decided to search for the truth."

"Most especially when the person who was in charge of the case was the same person who faked his death and framed me up."

"That rotten Zhang Jun is alive?!" Chairman Qin can't help but raised his voice in anger.

"Yes, uncle Luo. I saw him at the airport the night of Yuvin and Europa's arrival." w.a.n.g Reiji said as a strong expression of disgust took over her beautiful face.

Qin Sho who was just silently observing them started to voice out his mind.

"Does he know that you are here?" Qin Sho asked pertaining to w.a.n.g Reiji's ex.

w.a.n.g Reiji slightly raised her head up to meet Qin Sho's eyes.

"Yes, he knows."

"Is he bothering you?" Qin Sho asked as his countenance darkened.

"He sent me a letter. He was offering me protection." w.a.n.g Reiji tried to remain expressionless, but the fondness in her eyes gave her away.

"Hmm, it seems like he probably knows something." Chairman Qin spoke as he stood up and walked toward the window of his study room. While looking outside, his eyes were captivated by a sweet smile of a little girl running around the garden. After heaving a deep sigh he asked,

"Do you think he knows about your daughter?"

"Yes, he knows her. He even has her photograph."
