Chapter 8 - How is this possible (Part II)
"Old Master, I need to use your room and those things for the next few days." Guo Tailai didn't care about the reaction of the others in the room. He said to Elder Liu, "Also, you promised to teach me your abilities. Don't be shameless!"Guo Tailai left after throwing down the stuff. He hadn't stopped working for three and a half hours. He was so hungry that his chest was sticking to his back. Basically, this was the limit of Guo Tailai's patience. Before anyone could reply, Guo Tailai had already ran away. If he didn't run now, there wouldn't be any food left in the cafeteria.
Director Li and his son, who were waiting anxiously in the office, were completely speechless. *Finished?*
Director Li was not just sitting in his office, he also had some skills. Otherwise, how could he be sure how long it would take for the locksmith to polish it? Needless to say, Manager Wan had caught up with them and communicated with them beforehand. There would not be much difference in time estimates.
Guo Tailai only needed three and a half hours to finish what they had estimated to be a month's worth of work for a level six locksmith. Their first reaction was that it was impossible!
However, this job was overseen by the retired level 9 worker Elder Liu. They couldn't say anything, so they could only shout in their hearts, "How is this possible?!""Let's test it out!" Elder Liu pointed to the box on the table and sat down on the chair beside him.
Let alone Director Li and Manager Wan, even Elder Liu himself still had a lingering fear at this time.
*That d.a.m.n fatty Guo Tailai was too quick, and he didn't have that sort of meticulous method. He had learnt the basics well, but his courage was too great.* Elder Liu broke out in a cold sweat when he saw this.
When Elder Liu walked over, he thought that Guo Tailai was still carefully measuring the sizes and comparing them with the blueprints. However, the moment he went in, he found that Guo Tailai had already packed away the half finished crankshaft, and in his hand was the thinnest diamond file, he filed it into the round hole on the connecting rod.
Elder Liu almost cried out in shock. He was finally aware that he was most afraid of being distracted by external factors, so he forcefully held himself back. Only when Guo Tailai's file was properly filed did he finally make a sound.
"What are you doing?" Elder Liu asked Guo Tailai angrily after closing the door.
"Processing crankshaft!" Guo Tailai looked at the furious Elder Liu innocently, "Isn't this what you want me to do? This tool of yours is amazing. It's countless times more exquisite than the ones outside."
"Is that what you do?" Elder Liu was furious, spitting at Guo Tailai, "Do you know how much processing waste there is? You still needed to file. This little bit of leftover was enough to grind it down! I was really blind yesterday! "
"Hmp!" Guo Tailai was not used to Elder Liu's habit of taking advantage of his age: "Isn't it just leaving a bit of processing leftover? How big a deal is it. Do you care if I finish or file? Come, measure it!"
As he said that, Guo Tailai took out a micrometer from the toolbox and threw it at Elder Liu. *Seriously, you want me to jabber on and on, what's wrong with that?* If it wasn't for the fact that the entire locksmith's workshop was respectful to the Elder Liu, Guo Tailai wouldn't be this angry.
Of course, Elder Liu had to measure it. If Guo Tailai did not know the severity of the problem, then the diamond file would not care how hard it was, as long as it was at least three strands, the crankshaft would be crippled.
However, Elder Liu continued to measure, measuring the position of the file. The micrometer's readings were actually the same, all of them were 30.010 mm long, exactly the same. If the other side were to file out another thread, it would just happen to be the diameter of 30 mm marked on the blueprint.
In other words, Guo Tailai's file was not too much, just enough to be able to file out a thread. This sense of accuracy and control was simply amazing!
Even Elder Liu himself didn't dare to say that he could just file a strand of filings at the peak of his life. He had to carefully file off the outer layer a few times, bit by bit. He had to accurately measure the average number of times before he could continue.
When Guo Tailai changed his position again and fixed the file, Elder Liu measured it a few more times. After confirming that Guo Tailai's hand was extremely steady and precise to the point that it made everyone stare in shock, Elder Liu was sure that he had picked up a treasure.
After three times, Elder Liu did not need to measure anymore. He just watched Guo Tailai file the crankshaft, which originally required the high precision numerical control machine tool to finish the final step, in order, bit by bit until it was sized.Guo Tailai had the numbers in his hands and the numbers in his mind. The flatness was fine, as long as the accurate filing was in place. However, the inner and outer diameters of the big round hole and small round hole on the connecting rod were all round and difficult to process. Yet, just like that, Guo Tailai followed the curve of the circular arc and finished the work with a file.
This was no longer the pinnacle of perfection, but rather an almost superb technique. Elder Liu didn't know how to describe Guo Tailai skills. Even though he was only a level nine locksmith, he didn't dare to compare himself to Guo Tailai.
The only thing that was stronger than Guo Tailai was his decades of rich experience. Since Guo Tailai was so skilled, Elder Liu wished that he could impart everything he knew to Guo Tailai
Thus, Guo Tailai started work on the side, while Elder Liu gave Guo Tailai some advice on what to do, how to do it, and how to process all kinds of curved surfaces from all different corners, stuffing them into his mind as if instigating them.Guo Taikai's basic skills were solid. The two of them did their work easily, unlike what people imagined they would do in the face of a great enemy. They chatted, Guo Tailai worked while learning, and worked with ease.
During the conversation, Elder Liu found out Guo Tailai's name and purpose for coming to the locksmith's workshop.
Guo Tailai also knew that Elder Liu was definitely a master. The things he had learned from his father, Elder Liu had a more exquisite, safe, and creative way of realization, it was like a treasure trove. Even if Guo Tailai didn't want to make a line in the future, this valuable experience would be something that Guo Tailai would long for.
The two of them chatted in a relaxed manner. Unknowingly, they had finished the manual grinding behind the filings. While Guo Tailai was still polis.h.i.+ng the metal quickly, the two of them did not waste any more time and directly took the items back to the office.
Only now did Elder Liu realize that the finished product had not been measured by him. What made Elder Liu even more shocked was that from the beginning to the end, he had never seen Guo Tailai move a single bit. He had been working the entire time and he actually had not measured it at all.
"Qualified... Qualified... Qualified... Qualified... " Manager Wan and Director Li each held a crankshaft, and the other held a micrometer.
In the end, all the markup sizes were up to standard, and both the inner and outer circles were perfect. They predicted that a crankshaft would require a level 6 worker to grind them in a month, and for Guo Tailai to complete two of them in three and a half hours, how was that possible?
"How did he do it?" Director Li was going crazy. *Was he even human?*
