They could just simply use some Elixir of Truth and Lies and the other party will spill the truth without any delay.
But unfortunately, that is not their case. The two sandmen before them are not capable of speaking at all.
All they could utter are incoherent mutterings such as 'roar'. So rather than trying to get the information they need out from their mouth, the group of warlocks opted to use another method instead
They will be using the Servant Spell.
This spell works in messing up the psyche and will of its victim. Contorting facts and lies. Putting its victim into a servant mentality.
Once put under this spell, one will have no choice but to follow whatever demand or order that was given to them by the warlock or sorceress that conjure the spell.
Their group had slain three of them so far, and after their spirit disintegrated, they had immediately dissolved back into ordinary sand.
So the group reckoned that they cannot use forceful methods to deal with these sandmen because they were way too fainthearted and their spirit seemed to be so weak.
Waving his wand, Yun Xue cast the Servant Spell over the two sandmen lying on the ground before him.
"YPIRETIS"
After the two sandmen were put out under the Servant Spell, the group waited for any reaction but the two sandmen were still tras.h.i.+ng relentlessly under their restriction.
While Yun Xue and the others were deep in their thought as to why the spell seemed not to work, the flicker of life in the two sandmen appears to get extinguished for some reason as they stop moving.
Then with a crack, the bodies swiftly crumbled back into a pile of yellow sand.
Fan Lei stepped forward to take a closer look at the heap of remaining sand. They were indeed only ordinary sand. There was nothing else mixed within it.
Following which, he scanned his surroundings and narrowed his eyes.
Another hypothesis came up to his mind after witnessing what happened. This time, there was a high chance that it was exactly the reason why all of this was happening in the first place.
It could be that those sandmen were not actually a creature or a native race in this desert.
The reason why the Servant Spell fails to work on them is probably that they don't have spirits or wills, to begin with.
Rather than calling them creatures, it could be more accurate to call them artifact or a tool and someone was controlling them in the background!
In other words, there was someone within this desert that could enchant ordinary sand and bestow it with life and strength capable of rivaling a group of warlocks.
That was an extremely scary notion in itself!
Just imagine how vast the sand desert that they were currently at. If the other party is truly capable of enchanting the sand into becoming sandman, just how many of these sandmen he or she could create?!
But regardless of whether that warlock or sorceress is really frightening as they thought it to be, they still need to proactively locate its whereabouts and force him or her out from its hiding.
Rather than waiting pa.s.sively and just stay on a defensive stance.
If these sandmen were products of enchantment, it was likely that the enchanter who was controlling them knows this desert land more than anyone else.
Maybe, he or she even know where the desert and swamp meet in this place!
Be it the Rhapsody Swap or the oasis they were calling, only the warlock or the sorceress behind this sandmen can give them the answer they were looking for!
In other words, the key to finding the Rhapsody Swamp lay in whether they were able to find the enchanter or not.
Just that… how were they supposed to find that darn enchanter??!
Mu Lingxi and the others fell into deep contemplation. A moment later, Yun Xue abruptly straightened his back and turned to his friends as realization dawned upon him.
He looked at his friends but his eyes purposely avoided looking at Mu Lingx's direction.
"If I recall correctly… the two sandmen seemed to have emerged from that direction. It's likely that the enchanter is in that direction too!"
To enchant an item, the enchanter has to use some means like inscribing magical inscriptions and other enchanting methods.
But all of these enchanting methods require the enchanter to be in direct contact with the item they will going to enchant.
This means that the direction that the sandmen had appeared from likely held a clue of some kind.
"Everyone, follow me!"
Without any hesitation, Yun Xue bellowed to his friends and led them in the direction that the two sandmen had appeared from.
Mu Lingxi and the rest of the two groups also come to the same conclusion. Thus they have no qualms following Yu Xue's plan.
As they made their way, Mu Lingxi and her friends got to know the names of the other group of warlocks from the Plufwarts School of Spell.
The one who offered a handshake with them is called, Jia Chang. He seemed to be the most friendly among the rest of his groupmates.
The one who volunteered to drank the water to lured some sandmen is named Gu Chiao. While the other three warlocks were Lu Mu, Han Fen and Ren Bo.
After traveling for roughly half an hour, they came to a halt.
There was still no difference in their surroundings yet. All that was within sight was yellow sand.
Fan Lei looked around him, but he was unable to find a clue or whatsoever. Thus, he turned to the group of warlocks from Plufwarts School of Spell.
"We will need you to attract a sandman here once more…"
Upon hearing the request, bitter looks appeared on the faces all around.
Not only are you ordering us around, but you are also forcing us to drink water to dehydrate ourselves…
Do you know that we'll die of thirst at this rate?
As stifled as the other group of warlocks was, they knew that the young man's group was their only hope of getting out of this darned place.
Besides the other group also saved their lives so they were indeed indebted to them. Without any hesitation, another warlock repeated the previous ritual.
This time, it was the warlock named Ren Bo who volunteered to drink the water.
Not too long later, three sandmen raced over from another direction.
These three sandmen were clearly much stronger than before. Their fighting prowess was significantly higher.
At the same time, they seemed to possess greater intelligence as these new batch of sandmen were capable of blocking more spells and they were also using some sort of magic to have greater control over the sand around them.
But it was still not enough to be an opponent for Mu Lingxi and her friends.
Knowing that it was impossible to have any use from the sandmen, Mu Lingxi's group did not hesitate to slay them.
There is no need for them to go easy on the other party anymore.
After which, they continued walking in the direction that the sandmen had appeared from. After traveling for another ten minutes, the group repeated the same ritual once more.
Another group of sandmen appeared. But this time, the fighting prowess of the sandmen had risen to another level and their number increased as well!.
If before the group was only dealing with two to three sandmen per match, now there were five of them in a single go!
"It seemed like the fighting prowess and the number of sandmen will continue to increase the closer we get to the enchanter…"
Seeing that there were finally seeing some changes in their circ.u.mstances, Fan Lei's eyes lit up in excitement.
Just like that, they continued ahead. Whenever Mu Lingxi and her friends felt uncertain of the direction where they going to, they would have the other group conduct the ritual of drinking water and pouring it away.
Repeating the process another ten times, the fighting prowess, as well as the number of the sandmen, also continued to increase as they expected.
It was only when the batch of the sandmen had reached fifteen sandmen each did they noticed that its number stopped increasing.
It seemed like the fighting prowess of the sandmen as well as their number had reached a cap and was unable to grow any further.
"This was the same strength and number of sandmen ten minutes ago, and the strength is still equal at the moment. If we will going to form a straight line between the two points that we summoned the sandmen… It's likely that the enchanter is located on another perpendicular line along the very center of this straight line!"
Fan Lei's brain whirred in action as he tried to make his deduction. The rest of the group is not a fast thinker as Fan Lei was but they know that Fan Lei's deduction is on spot.
So despite not fully comprehending the point behind all of Fan Lei's deduction and calculation, they followed him.
Enchanter relies on spells or other special means as a medium to control their enchanted artifacts. The strength of their control would depend on the distance between them and the enchanted artifact.
Considering that the two groups of sandmen were of equal strength, it meant that the extent of the enchanter's control over his or her enchanted artifact was identical at both points.
In other words, it was likely that the enchanter was equidistant from the two points.
The possible regions that were equidistant to the two points where they had summoned the sand men were along the perpendicular line formed at the center of the straight line connecting the two points.
To put it in simpler terms, they only had to head to the center in between the two points where they had summoned the sandmen and travel either up or down, and they would be able to find the enchanter!
"Let's go!"
Having confirmed a direction, Fan Lei headed to the center point and beckoned to his friends to follow him.
The two groups of warlocks began heading upwards.
Sometime later, just as the crowd was swiftly approaching their limit, they heard an exclamation from one of the warlocks from Plufwarts School of Spell.
"Look! There's an oasis just ahead of us!"
When Mu Lingxi heard the exclamation from Lu Mu, she quickly turned her gaze ahead.
Just as the Lu Mu had said, there was a conspicuous hint of lush greenery amidst the dull yellow sand of the vast desert right ahead of them.
