But right now, Lu Su was looking at her and sweating profusely. She had just uttered the name of his nemesis. Lu Su was a very calm and jovial person. He was friendly and always helped others. He liked his experimentation with alchemy and stayed away from fights.
But alas, three years ago, he had committed a grave sin. He had just graduated and was considered a genius of his batch in concocting potions. So when he joined Brokenly Epic, his head was at a bit higher place.
And of all the people, he had to mess with Dia Meng.....
Since then, every time Dia Meng returned back to the guild base, he would pay a visit to Lu Su without fail. And Lu Su would be out of commission for the next two days.
"Hey Sally please. What did I ever do to you? Please please don't remind that devil of my existence. Fine, I will take these 2 here with me. But not one word about me to that guy. I am warning you. I will run away and never come back."
Sally just laughed it off. The group then went to the city's teleportation portal and left for Dakuta village. Lu Su filled the duo in on details. They basically have to deal with 4 to 5 herds of magical beasts called the grizzly goats.
These are expected to be level 1 grizzlies and the mission has been ranked C because of the difficulty in tackling these together as a herd. Their only notable skill is ram, but, it is a sure fire one shot kill technique.
Since, all the members of Lu Su's group were level 5 and 6, they had nothing to worry about. When they reached the village, they immediately started working on the mission. They first reported to the border patrol combat experts and started walking towards the mission coordinates.
Dakuta village is a very normal and plain village. It is an average human settlement, just surrounded by lush forests and greeneries. The nearby magical beasts had been cleared and the area is deemed to be relatively safe. The settlement also had barrier defensive spells and illusion covers to keep it well hidden.
But, once in a while, some beasts migrate over. And before it becomes an issue, missions are doled out and these beasts are cleared. And this is a very common occurrence for all human settlements.
The grizzly goats were last sited 5 miles south of the border. Everybody, equipped their armours and weapons and steadily approached the territory. Unfortunately, Eluraa didn't have any with her and s.h.i.+ Meng immediately lent her his spare set.
"Ha ha good boy. You know how to treat a lady well. Are you sure you are his brother ?" Lu Su patted s.h.i.+ Meng on the back. s.h.i.+ Meng just smiled politely and ignored him.
Eluraa's preferred method of combat is duelling using two short swords but she had to make do with s.h.i.+ Meng's long sword for now. And anyways, it didn't look like they would get much chance to fight anything this time.
Lu Su's group had six other members. They all seemed to be life-style combat experts. Soon, they spotted a herd of grizzlies. Without going close enough to attract aggro, they silently surrounded the herd. Lu Su instructed both s.h.i.+ Meng and Eluraa to stand back with the group healer and guard him.
There were totally 5 grizzlies in the herd and there were 6 of them without the healer. Moreover, they were all 4 or 5 levels above the grizzlies in strength and expertise. So quickly, each of them drew aggro of a single grizzly from the herd.
Before the goat could rev upto charge and ram, they quickly slashed the belly, which was it's weak point and then slashed its throat, killing the beast. They finished the whole fight within seconds.
Just because you were protecting the healer, the xenon wasn't going to magically give you experience from the fights. You have to be actually involved in combat and your experience would only increase based on your contribution to the fight.
So s.h.i.+ Meng and Eluraa basically got nothing out of this. The same scene repeated for a couple more times and everything went smoothly without any kinks. Soon, they were done with the whole mission.
They reported back to the security patrols of the Dakuta village and even returned back to the guild base, all within a few hours time. Both s.h.i.+ Meng and Eluraa were very much disappointed. They literally didn't get any action.
To add insult to the injury, Lu Su feeling very magnanimous, gave them each 2 grizzly cores and even affectionately praised them like a teacher. "You two did great today ! Both of you didn't get scared or freak out ! Amazing ! Keep it up."
He even praised them to Sally, "We got some good seeds Sally." Then, they all dispersed and went back to their profession training.
Seeing both s.h.i.+ Meng and Eluraa look very dejected, Sally added, "Your brother should be here in a few days, after completing his mission. Maybe he can help you guys out and take you for some higher level missions. But really, increasing your level from 1 to 20 is a struggle for everyone.
And this is intentional because, at every stage, you need proper training and a slower growth rate ensures that. Once you get to a higher level, the risks you face also increase exponentially. I will try to notify you guys, if any lower level missions pop up. But its always first come, first serve. Good luck."
....
"And that's that. Don't worry about it. I am sure my brother will help us out."
"Ya, that sounds like a plan."
"So, I think I will focus on my smithing skills for now and just wait for my brother. You can maybe try out for the apprentice opening in the alchemy office?"
"mm hmm. Let me think about it."
