Sakura ignored Saya and asked Haru, "Do you want to get lunch? Kaito said you canceled your reservation for Playground today?" Playground was owned by Sakura and Kaito's family. They owned several successful restaurants throughout the country. Sakura and Kaito were going to NSU to get their business degree to take over their family business in the future. However, Kaito has always loved creating new cuisines and has decided to also pursue his culinary degree. Kaito's been working as an apprentice at his family's restaurants since high school. Playground was the current place he was working at which is how he found out about Haru's canceled lunch reservations.
"Kaito's done with work today, let's all have lunch together."
…"The three of us," Sakura clarified.
Ignoring Sakura's obvious cold shoulder, Saya questioned Haru, "I thought we were meeting the detective at Playground today?"
"I thought with everything that happened it would be better to reschedule, don't you think?" Haru replied.
Saya glanced at Haru's bandaged hands and noticed that his wounds had started to slightly bleed again and she felt bad. He was right. She breathed a sigh of disappointed but nodded her head in agreement. "Why don't you go to lunch with the twins like Sakura suggested and I'll head to the hospital to see my aunt. I have a few things to ask her about my interns.h.i.+p at the hospital."
"I'll take you there," Haru stated.
"Nope. Nope. Nope. My aunt can't see us together. We can't be seen in public together. I'm so not ready for that, at least not right now. You promised me, remember," argued Saya.
Sakura snorted and under her breath, she sneered, "Hypocrite."
It was soft but unfortunately for Sakura, Saya could read lips. She understood Sakura's feelings of dismay. Saya knew Sakura was just being a good friend to Haru. She knew she was the one at fault so all she can do is endure Sakura's hostility.
"Sakura I'm sorry. I know you asked me to stay away and trust me I've tried. And I'm not making any excuses but things were more complicated than I thought they would be. I really did plan on staying away from you, from Haru, from everyone. I wanted to graduate NSU peacefully. I had no intention to stir anything. But things went off course. My emotions went awry and I was unprepared. I'm sorry for breaking my promise."
Sakura was caught off guard by Saya's words and was unable to reply. She was the one to confront Saya behind Haru's back and while she didn't feel guilty about it nor did she regret it, she also didn't expect Haru to find out about it. Less of all find out through Saya. Knowing Haru he'll be p.i.s.sed at her meddling. 'Hopefully, Haru understands that I was worried and confronted Saya for his own good,' Sakura thought.
Saya waited for Sakura's retort and Sakura watched for Haru's reactions towards what she has done, while Haru stood with his arms crossed, his thoughts and feelings unclear and hidden. Jay noting the tense atmosphere between the three decided to head back in the car. It was the smartest thing the young driver has done all day.
"Oh, my phone is vibrating," said Saya fis.h.i.+ng out her vibrating phone from her purse.
"Hi, aunty Alexis...hmm...I'm at the back, at the private parking for the headmaster...yeah...you know where it is?...okay...I'll meet you outside the gate...kay...see you soon."
Saya placed her phone in her front pocket and said to the two, "I got to go. Aunty Alexis wants to talk to me about something. It sounded important. She'll be at the gate soon. I don't think the guard would le--"
HONK! HONK! HONK!
"That's her now," Saya said. She ran towards the gate before Haru could stop her and she shouted, "I'll talk to you later Haru and Sakura sorry again for breaking my promise!"
Haru and Sakura watched Saya sprint to the gate, exit and climb into a small white car. The car sped off but the two continued to stare at the gate entrance and empty sidewalk. They both stood there in stillness and silence, trying to gauge each other's thoughts. A gust of wind stirred and ruffled Sakura's long skirt and her short hair. She patted her skirt down gently and tucked some flyaway hair behind her ears. The two stood tall, their rigid posture showed years of aristocratic upbringing. The two were gorgeously matched, from their height, their beauty, and their aristocratic backgrounds. They would have made a picture-perfect couple if they weren't in love with the same girl.
"Be mad at Saya for ruining the friends.h.i.+p between you two. Give her the cold shoulder as much as you want, that's your right. But don't use me as an excuse to hate her. I get it, you were worried about me. Still worried. You understand better than anyone else what it feels like to love Saya. You understand that I can't go back. It's only ever going to be her. I'm only ever going to love her. That's it for me. But you aren't in as deep as me are you Sakura? Forgive her on your terms but its time to move on."
"I love you both," Sakura confessed, a single tear escaping her moistened eyes.

"You love me like you love Kaito. You loved Saya differently," Haru argued. Sakura didn't deny Haru's accusations and said in a soft voice, "I rooted for you two with all my heart. You both were so dear to me and I was fine as long as you two were happy. Saya never would have figured out how I felt about her because as smart as she is, she was also too dense when it came to people who loved her. I had no intentions to ever confess my feelings and I wish you both the forever you deserved. And then she left you...me...left all of us. How could she do that?"
Haru hesitated for a moment before he answered, "She has her reasons. It doesn't excuse what she's done but it's Saya, she wouldn't do something to hurt the people she loves without a good reason. I don't know what happened two years ago but I'm just happy that she's back. I can finally sleep at night knowing she's alive and okay. For now, that's good enough for me.
Sakura remained silent contemplating Haru's words. She gripped her skirt tightly, her usual elegant face twisted with pain, anger, and sadness. The feelings she had for Saya conflicted with the betrayal she felt over her disappearance and her loyalty to Haru until everything burst out and she cried helplessly into Haru's arms. Haru held her gently, whispering words of comfort and a.s.surance. He held her until her cries mellowed into silent tears.
"I still need a bit of time before I can forgive her," Sakura cried into Haru's embrace her words m.u.f.fled and soft.
"That's fine."
...….
"Aunty, aunty Alexis! Change lanes now!" screeched Saya as she watched an oncoming car head closer to them.
Saya held onto the edge of her seat tightly, her knuckles prominent from her death grip. She exhaled in relief when they made it safely onto the next lane.
"Aunty Alexis, what is wrong?! North Star Hospital is only a couple minutes away, what's the rush? I've never seen you like this."
"I'll explain when we get there. I want you to meet someone. They need your help," Alexis said.
Alexis made her way into the hospital parking area to her a.s.signed parking spot. She parked the car over the line, taking half of the other parking spot. But Alexis had no intention of fixing her crooked parking.
"C'mon she's in my office waiting for us," she said to Saya.
"Does this have anything to do with the s.e.xual a.s.sault cases uncle Sota doesn't want me working on?" Saya asked.
"No, it has nothing to do with that. But this is urgent and I need your help now. I tried your parents but your gramps said their on some super-secret case for the police and will be unavailable until next week and this can't wait," Alexis explained.
The two hurried out of the car on Alexis's insistence and briskly made their way to her office. Inside her aunt's office, Saya found a wailing woman on the couch. She appeared to be in her late 20s to early 30s and had chestnut brown hair pulled into a tight bun and a small almost unnoticeable dimple on her chin. She stood up to greet Alexis her wailing uninterrupted.
"Melanie, sit down. C'mon try to calm down now sweetie. Melanie this is my G.o.ddaughter Saya. Katherine and Reo's daughter. She's here to help okay," said Alexis as she tried to pacify her crying.
