She Will Be Mine 23 Chapter 23

Alexis sat next to Melanie and held her trembling hands. "Shush, c'mon Melanie, I know it must be difficult but you need to calm down. Saya's here to help," Alexis murmured. Saya knelt in front of the two and observed Melanie's trembling body. The fear in her eyes was evident. A slip of folded paper stuck out of Melanie's pocket. 'A photo', Saya thought. She continued to kneel in front of her aunt and the stranger, whose despair she felt could drown them all. Saya hesitantly reached out, placing a hand on top of her aunt's and Melanie's. But she remained silent, patiently kneeling and waiting for Melanie to tell her story.

With Alexis's urging and soothing, Melanie was able to compose herself, her sobs turning into soft whimpers until it was just a slight hiccup that faded away. She pulled a crumpled picture out of pocket and handed it to Saya. "That's my daughter Alyssa to the right, she's missing." Saya studied the photo of two young girls similar in height and features. They wore the same uniform, in slightly different colors. One in a navy blue and the other in indigo. They had an arm across each other's shoulders and were beaming with smiles for the camera. They looked to be the best of friends.

"She was supposed to go home with her friend Lani, that's her next to my daughter. My husband and I are friends with Lani's parents and the girls go home together. They both attend Gaia Private Academy for Girls. Alyssa's ten and Lani's thirteen so she's at the middle school building. Lani's club meeting was running a little late so she texted Alyssa and Alyssa said she'll meet her outside her cla.s.s. But when Lani got out Alyssa wasn't there. Lani called me immediately. Lani knows Alyssa wouldn't have gone anywhere else without telling her. My husband is a cop and they'd open an investigation but I don't know what to do. The police are combing the school and searching the area. They'd gone through the school security cameras. They have her walking out of the elementary building but not entering the middle school building. The school has cameras inside but apparently not the outside perimeter. With all the money they charge how could they not have better security?! I know it's only been a few hours since she's been missing but I know something bad has happened," Melanie explained. Her voice hoa.r.s.e from all the crying and her body still trembled in fear of the unknown.

Saya sat up straight and hastily moved to Alexis's desk. She sat on the chair and powered on her aunt's laptop, quickly bypa.s.sing her aunt's pa.s.sword. "I need yours and Alyssa's full name and birth dates." Melanie turned to Alexis who nodded her head in encouragement and the two followed Saya and stood behind her as Melanie gave her the information she requested. The two watch as Saya opened and scroll through several windows only to close them moments later. "Your husband Akira just pa.s.sed the exam and was promoted to detective and you're a receptionist at the forensic department of the hospital," Saya stated. "Yes, yes," Melanie replied as she watched in astonishment as Saya hacked several servers and found information on her and her family. "Uncle Sota already set up a response unit at your place. That's good. I've hacked into your family's mobile service and tried to locate Alyssa's phone but it's been turned off. I've attached a program I created onto it and once that phone is turned on, even for a second, my program will locate the whereabouts of her phone."

Melanie gasped in amazement, more and more thankful that she decided to reach out to Alexis. Saya's fingers never left the keyboard as she closed one window only to open another. Her eyes scrolling through mountains of information, capturing the important ones. Alexis and Melanie couldn't keep up and could barely read a paragraph before Saya moved on. In disbelief, Melanie asked, "Can you really take in so much information at once?" Saya remained silent and it was Alexis who answered, "You know her parent's reputation. She's like her mother Katherine. They absorb information way faster than the average person."

Saya dialed her uncle Sota's number on her aunt's office phone with one hand, while the other hand continued scrolling through the pages of information on the computer. "Darling, I can't talk right now." Saya pressed the speaker b.u.t.ton and said, "It's Saya uncle Sota. I'm here with aunty Alexis and Melanie."

Static rumble as if the phone was being rubbed against clothing, some banging, and a mouthful of curse words could be heard from the other line. "Dammit Alexis, I told you not to get her involved in police matters. And Melanie I can't believe you snuck out, you just about killed Akira with your disappearance too. You need to head back home now."

"She's coming right back she just wanted to reach out to me personally to see if I could get Katherine and Reo's help. I told her that their brilliant daughter could help her out instead. Her daughter has been kidnapped did you really expect her to stay at home and just wait," Alexis said.

"Yes, yes I did! You need to let us do our d.a.m.n job!" Sota yelled in retort.

"Uncle Sota is right, you need to go home Melanie and be with your husband. Uncle Sota please sent a police escort for Melanie," said Saya trying to pacify the situation. She didn't wait for her uncle's reply and ended the conversation.

"Saya!," Alexis whined. Before Alexis could say anything else Saya told Melanie, "It's best if you go home now. When I find something I'll pa.s.s it onto my uncle. And if I have any questions for you or your husband I'll call. Trust me when I say that I won't stop until your daughter is found." Saya's words alleviated some of Melanie's worry. The short amount of time Melanie has spent with Saya has made her a believer. Saya truly was as gifted as her mother.

It wasn't long before the police escort came and took Melanie home. With the two of them alone Saya told her aunt, "You should call uncle Sota and apologize."

Alexis paced back and forth her heels digging deeply into her carpeted floor. One hand on her hip and her other hand holding her cellphone to her ear. She was on the phone with her irate husband. It was rare for Sota to be angry with his wife but this time Alexis really done it.

Saya stayed focus on her information gathering, digging deeper into Melanie's, Akira's, and Alyssa's background. She tried not to listen to her G.o.dparent's conversation but it was hard when the two were having a screaming match over the phone. None the less, she kept her mouth shut letting them work it out themselves. But as she listened and winced in second-hand embarra.s.sment at her aunt's sweet apologies and praise, Saya figured it wouldn't be long till her uncle Sota caves in and forgive her aunt Alexis.

"I love you too, darling," Alexis purred sweetly.

'And there it is,' Saya thought, rolling her eyes. Saya finished enhancing the video surveillance she recently acquired and sent it anonymously to her uncle. "Aunty, tell uncle to check his email right now." Alexis did as she was told without a second thought. The line remained silent for a long time and Alexis snapped her fingers to get Saya's attention and mouthed silently, "What did you find?"
