"This way, President Kang." The general manager said as he led Kang Jun to the security room.
Anyone watching him would believe that he was calm and in complete control but Mr. Long, who followed close behind him, s.h.i.+vered. He hated when his boss became like this. The killing intent emanating from Kang Jun's back chilled him to the core.
Once they entered the security room, the general manager presented them the security footage from both within the building and outside. Kang Jun loomed above the man on the computer who began to slightly tremble due to Kang Jun's crus.h.i.+ng aura.
It was much worse than usual due to his horrid mood.
Mingyu's disappearing act was a habit. Everyone in the Kang family's main house knew this for a fact, but he had disappeared twice in one day, which was something he seldom ever did.
The boy had a fever at that…
Inexplicable anger boiled like a volcano within Kang Jun.
At the hospital, Kang Jun had tried to convince Qiao Lan to leave Mingyu to him or, at least, to Mr. Long but she had other plans.
Today, there was a meeting of sorts for socialites.
Events like these were Qiao Lan's favorite.
Kang Jun understood her love for the events, not because he himself found them fun in any way, but he understood that after marrying into the Kang family young, Qiao Lan had been forced to sacrifice her freedom for the family's prosperity, so he, and everyone else in the family, allowed her to do as she pleased, but this proved to be a mistake…
Qiao Lan was like a hyperactive child in the body of an exceptional lady. She went to any and all events that there were despite being tasked to raise two children on her own.
Actually, there were some events that she attended solely because of the children.
At a young age, Qiao Lan had been given two kids within the span of two years. Mei Xue, who was now seven, and Mingyu, who was now six, and she was proud to show them off to the world.
Although there was one small problem…
And that was Mingyu.
Mingyu was not like Qiao Lan or Mei Xue, from a young age, he had been frail and so he had never been able to attend the grand majority of those events.
He had only attended an event once and it had ended disastrously. Because of this, he had grown to not like events in general.
After that incident, The Kang Family's secret little young master had become like a legend in the socialite circles.
This made Qiao Lan want to bring him even more…
And what better opportunity than the first gathering of the summer season! Every single year the event was bigger and bigger and Qiao Lan was sure that this year it would be the biggest of them all.
At the hospital, Kang Jun had warned Qiao Lan that bringing Mingyu to an event of that size would only cause a negative reaction but she couldn't care less.
"Mei Xue has been coming to these events with me since she was four years old. Mingyu is six and he's a boy, he must be stronger." She had retorted as she pulled Mingyu away from him.
Kang Jun pinched the s.p.a.ce between his eyebrows. He couldn't really say anything to her because he knew that she would have a retort for every argument he presented, but the main reason lied with Elder Kang.
With him at Qiao Lan's side, she could do as she wished without fear.
And, out of respect for the Elder, Kang Jun seldom said a word or tried to interfere unless he believed it to be necessary.
Although, today, Kang Jun was worried. He would have pushed harder to stop Qiao Lan but, he had business to attend to in the hotel so, if anything happened he would be just a few steps away.
In the middle of his business meeting with an investor, Kang Jun had stepped out to meet Qiao Lan. He warned her once more not to bring Mingyu in, but all she did was frown and then said,
"You were a great help with raising them, really, you were, but you're not their father so you don't have a say in how I raise my kids."
It took all the willpower Kang Jun had to not say, 'Don't be so high and mighty, You're not their mother either.'
Instead, Kang Jun sighed and said, "Just be responsible."
"I will." After saying that, Qiao Lan gave him a smile.
Kang Jun left, without looking back and Qiao Lan did the same.
Who would have imagined that once Qiao Lan entered the gathering hall that she would lose sight of Mingyu almost instantaneously?!
Once his own gathering had finished, Kang Jun asked Mr. Long to check on Mingyu only to be informed that the boy had been missing for over two hours!
It took all Kang Jun had in him not to punch a wall.
Watching the footage with the eyes of a hawk, Kang Jun felt his head throb.
The man overlooking the video, the general manager, Mr. Long and Kang Jun all lent an eye to looking for the boy but it felt almost impossible to determine where he had gone.
There were few shots of Mingyu, though this was to be expected because of the sheer number of people that were in Hotel Helios that day and Mingyu's exceptionally short stature.
Suddenly, something caught Kang Jun's attention. It was a small figure running into an alley beside the hotel.
The footage was dated around ten minutes ago.
Kang Jun pointed to the boy on the screen and then looked at the man on the computer. He needed no words or actions…
The man on the computer s.h.i.+vered and proceded to act on Kang Jun's mental orders and found the footage of the other end of the alley. They watched it for a small while but the boy didn't come out from the alley.
"Maybe he ran back out of the other side? That's possible right?" Mr. Long mentioned.
Kang Jun looked at the man on the computer.
Kang Jun: "Go back."
The general manager nodded his head slightly.
He knew that none of what had happened today was his fault but Kang Jun had the aura of a king and he felt like a plebeian in his presence. Someone with Kang Jun's influence could crush him like a bug.
If he didn't do all in his power to help, it would be a mistake.
Back at the previous bit of footage, the men continued to speed through the tape. The boy hadn't left the alley yet. A small moment pa.s.sed until a bunch of people got out of the hotel.
Still, the boy remained off-screen.
At the corner of the screen, something caught Kang Jun's attention. He saw the girl from the airport and the hospital.
His face changed slightly.
Only Mr. Long noticed it.
He curiously continued to look at the Kang Jun who had his eyes glued to the plain girl.
Kang Jun watched as the girl was bungled over by a fat ugly man, picked something up from the ground and then ran into the alley which Mingyu had yet to return from.
Kang Jun: "Do you have footage of the inside?"
"If I'm not mistaken, It might be broken..." The general manager said.
Kang Jun: "Check."
With those orders, the general manager nodded and the man at the computer began to search. When they found the footage, it was staticky, but they could still see an image of sorts.
It took a bit of time but the footage began to become more and more visible.
Though by the time it did, the camera was recording in real time.
The first clear image that flashed clearly across the screen was that of a girl. She was pet.i.te compared to the pudgy man who began to charge at her.
In one swift move, she kicked the ugly man in the stomach causing him to slightly fly backward.
Behind her, a red-faced young boy stood in complete shock.
" Little young master..." Mr. Long said almost sighing in relief.
Though the boy's eyes glistened with unshed tears.
The rest of the people in the room were quiet. They didn't know whether to breathe a sigh of relief or hold their breath in horror.
They feared to look Kang Jun in the face.
