At the table, the group sat, completely unaware about who had just seen them.

The table was surrounded by uncomfortable silence. Every single person that sat down had something on their minds; some more important than others.

Looking around the table, Mr. Long's eyes fell on both Kang Mei Xue and Kang Mingyu who wore identical expressions of doom.

"What do you guy's want to eat, the boss…I mean, Kang Jun, gave his card, so everything is on him?"

Underneath the table, Mr. Long stroked the black card self-consciously. He couldn't believe the boss was so reckless with such a precious thing.

"Seriously?" Doctor Chong, who had just come back from the bathroom, said and immediately picked out the most expensive thing on the menu.

Seeing this, Mr. Long glared at the man. "Can't you be a little modest?"

"I am always modest. Don't you think being a doctor is as modest a career as one can have? So if a client decides to treat me, shouldn't I indulge a little? Mostly when it comes from a family that doesn't lack money in the least."

Now, it was Rong Xin's turn to glare. "Since you're privately doing work for the Kang's, don't they pay you an unreasonably high amount of money?"

Hearing this, Doctor Chong smiled wryly.

What Rong Xin said was true. The Chong family was practically rich at the moment. With the money the received from the Kang family, their status had been elevated to one that only a few people would ever receive.

Doctor Chong shrugged his shoulders. "Who cares about that. I was told to come here and eat, so that's what I'll do."

Rong Xin and Mr. Long rolled their eyes. What an unbelievable doctor!

As the adults spoke and picked out their meals, Kang Mei Xue and Kang Mingyu did the same, but the boy was quieter than usual and he looked at the menu with eyes filled with pitch black darkness.

Watching him, Kang Mei Xue put her hand on the boy's hand.

"Are you okay?"

That question again…

Kang Mingyu had been asked the same question by everyone on the table, at one point or another, today. He began to hate that question, but unlike the rest, Kang Mingyu a.s.sumed that Kang Mei Xue didn't know about the situation.

He turned to his sister and looked at her through slanted eyes as he forced a small smile.

"I'm fine."

Kang Mei Xue knew that the boy wasn't fine, but she couldn't force him to speak. He would talk to her at one point or another, after all, they were siblings. She'd always be there for him, no matter what.

By the time Lu AnLing had woken up hours had pa.s.sed. Though the girl didn't notice this. Opening her eyes she wasn't in the right frame of mind. To her, it felt as if she had awoken on a normal morning.

Sitting up in bed, Lu AnLing yawned and stretched. Looking beside her, Lu AnLing found it strange that Kang Mingyu wasn't by her side, she was so used to having the boy with her that when he wasn't there her heart began to hurt.

Putting on her gla.s.ses, Lu AnLing then began to examine the room around her. It didn't take her long to realize the man with the coal-grey suit slouched in the chair at the side of the room.

Kang Jun laid in the chair with his arms and legs spread out and his head laid back. Looking at him, Lu AnLing's back began to hurt. The chair in the room was hard and, for a man like Kang Jun, it was at an uncomfortable hight.

Carefully Lu AnLing crawled off her bed and walked over to the sleeping man.

She observed how the man groaned with his eyebrows furrowed and how, at certain times, he would jerk his body ever so slightly. Watching him, Lu AnLing felt her heart clench. It was like Kang Jun was having a nightmare and It was hard to watch him in such a vulnerable state.

This wasn't something Kang Jun ever wanted to show others…

But truthfully, Lu AnLing wasn't the only one who was stressed and lacked sleep. Kang Jun did too. Unlike Lu AnLing, for the past few weeks, he had barely slept. His life was very unevenly split and work took up more than 3/4ths of his time. It was unfortunate, but Kang Jun had no choice but to undertake the responsibility.

Other than Mr. Long, n.o.body knew how much Kang Jun truly worked. When he was younger, working as he did these past few weeks had caused the man some major health concerns, but he had no choice. Now, if he wasn't careful, he would fall into the same pit once more.

Feeling unsatisfied by just watching, Lu AnLing slipped her hand onto Kang Jun's cheek.

She wanted to give the man a dose of calmness and warmth. When she'd been living in the recuperation center abroad, she had met many strange people but also a couple of good ones. One woman had taught her that when a person was feeling unhappy physical contact could help the person.

And she had been right.

A small while after Lu AnLing had touched the man's skin, his whole face calmed and he leaned into her touch.

Seeing this Lu AnLing smiled and then she began to stroke his lips with her thumb.

Lu AnLing had expected Kang Jun to be cold, but the man's lips were unexpectedly soft and warm.

For a moment, Lu AnLing wondered how it would feel like to kiss them. She leaned closer. Her lips hovered millimeters away from her own thumb. The closeness caused Kang Jun and her own breaths to intertwine, but she was not close enough to enact what she was imagining.

Instead, she stared at the man's face as if it was the most beautiful diamond.

Lu AnLing was completely enamored by the man's lips. She wanted to feel them on her skin. She wanted to crash her lips onto his and take him into her.

Staring at the sleeping man, Lu AnLing felt as if she wouldn't mind taking advantage of him like she had done in her dreams that one time…

Whether it was in a dream or in reality didn't matter to her anymore.

Desires were really something else...

Putting more pressure to her touch, Lu AnLing had expected Kang Jun to wake up, but instead, the man let out a small groan before he reached his long arms forward and wrapped them around the girl's waist.

"Mister Kang…" Lu AnLing called the man's name with a choke.

Looking down, Lu AnLing was speechless. She was about to punch him awake, but before she could make a move, the man had pulled the girl into him.

In a matter of seconds, Lu AnLing want sitting in Kang Jun's lap

A part of Lu AnLing wanted to wake the man up but at the same time, she knew that she would die of embarra.s.sment if he woke up to find her in his arms.

So instead, Lu AnLing tried to wiggle out of the man's embrace but it just made the situation worse. Feeling something poke her b.u.t.t, Lu AnLing gave up her struggle and cursed herself.

She had really done it now.
