He was having a fever and could not eat anything with a strong flavor, so she did not put in any other spices.

She found a few lemons inside the fridge while taking the cuc.u.mber out. So, she took a lemon and rubbed off the wax on its skin with salt and cut it up to marinade in honey. It would be better if she could marinate it longer but there was not enough time for it right now.

Lin Chu placed a slice of honeyed lemon into the cup and poured in half a cup of cool water. She was about to boil some water when she realized that the water in the kettle was still hot.

"…" Lin Chu remembered that unusual temperature on Yan Beicheng's thermometer.

After waiting a while, she made a cup of perfectly warm honey lemon and with her other hand, held a thermos filled with hot water and took them into Yan Beicheng's room.

His temperature this time was much more believable, at 39.8 degrees.

She then returned to the kitchen and brought the millet congee and the marinated cuc.u.mber, placing both of them on his bedside table. Luckily, Yan Beicheng was not so shameless as to say that he could not lift the bowl.

Yan Beicheng ate it with great appet.i.te but while having the congee, his gaze was still focused on her. Even if she pretended to look busy, his eyes followed her around.

Lin Chu felt helpless as she told him with a blushed face, "Focus on your meal. Why are you looking at me?"

"Your beauty is a delicacy," Yan Beicheng smiled and took another mouthful of congee, eating it happily.

Lin Chu was fl.u.s.tered. From the look of his eyes, she felt that Yan Beicheng was eating her instead.

"Master Yan, stop joking," Lin Chu said uncomfortably.

"I've never joked when it comes to matters of the heart," Yan Beicheng replied seriously while still holding the bowl of congee. It looked a little funny, which sort of discounted his seriousness.

"I usually joke with my friends, like Qi Chengzhi and the others. But you're not my friend and I've never planned on placing you in the friend category."

Lin Chu's face went a little pale as her eyes dropped. Her long eyelashes had covered up the look of hurt in her eyes.

She had thought that her relations.h.i.+p with Yan Beicheng was considered not too bad. Yet, in the end, she was not even considered a friend to him. It was out of her league to even be friends with Yan Beicheng.

"You're the woman I like, I've never treated you as a friend," Yan Beicheng replied casually.

Lin Chu, "…"

"Master Yan, you…"

Yan Beicheng interrupted her, "Yan Beicheng. Considering our relations.h.i.+p, there's no need for you to be so formal. Call me directly by my name, or if you are willing, call me Beicheng. I'd like that better."

"Master Yan, we don't know each other that well," Lin Chu was burning from her face to her ears.

Yan Beicheng narrowed his eyes and scoffed lightly. He put down the bowl of congee and suddenly stood up.

Lin Chu sat on the sofa as if she was rooted in it, watching his actions. She was unable to get up and avoid him. He walked right in front her and bent down with his hands held on to the back of the sofa, locking her in his arms.

Lin Chu's eyes widened as he suddenly came close. He was right in front of her face and she could smell his breath.
