When the estate manager saw him approaching, he greeted Jiang Yuning uneasily, “Mr. Jiang, we’ve already sent feedback to the elevator contractor. They’re going to send someone up here tomorrow…”

“I’m not here for that.” Jiang Yuning replied, his voice gentle and elegant. “I want to take a look at… the CCTV footage before the accident happened. I want to see if there were any suspicious personnel around, about… 100 meters surrounding the elevator.”

The manager was stunned. “Mr. Nian hasn’t told you yet? He asked me to do the same thing! I’m looking at the camera footage as we speak.”

Jiang Yuning was stunned. Did Nian Junting think that it was not just a simple accident as well?

Or did he already find out about something? Did he think that the accident had something to do with him as well?

He was unsettled and bothered. Nian Junting had never supported his relations.h.i.+p with Nian Xi in the first place. Would this put a dent in their relations.h.i.+p further?

“Mr. Jiang… are you… okay?” the manager asked when he saw the uneasiness in Jiang Yuning’s eyes.

“Can I take a look at the footage?” Jiang Yuning politely asked again, shaking off his worries.

“Of course! This is for Miss Nian’s safety after all. However, the estate is big and there are many cameras and clips, so you may take a while before you finish watching all of them.”

“It’s alright.”

Jiang Yuning sat in front of the screen for four hours straight and skipped dinner as well. Even the manager was getting dizzy from all the footage, but since Nian Junting had asked for his help, he thought that he should do his job properly.

When it was nearly 11 p.m., Jiang Yuning suddenly said, “Pause here.”

The manager quickly hit pause, and the screen showed a scrawny boy in a tracksuit carrying a school bag, on the roof of the building opposite to Nian Xi’s. “What’s the matter, Mr. Jiang?”

“Is there a CCTV camera on the rooftop?” Jiang Yuning asked quickly.

“No, there isn’t one on the roof.” The manager could not perceive what Jiang Yuning seemed to be looking at. “Do you think that this boy did something to the elevator today? I don’t think that’s possible. He’s in a different building, and he’s going to the rooftop.”

Jiang Yuning remained silent, but after staring at the screen for a while, he suddenly stood up and left. The manager was confused and even bewildered.

He pondered for a moment before deciding to call Nian Junting and report to him, “…It’s strange, he just left abruptly. Mr. Nian, should I still carry on? I’ve been watching for ages, but I couldn’t see anyone suspicious entering Miss Nian’s building.”

“Go find out if that boy stays in that building,” Mr. Nian told him.

Meanwhile, at Tianhu Villa, Nian Junting put his phone down. Luosang placed Little Apple on the bed after he used the toilet. She said, “It must have been an accident. If there wasn’t anyone suspicious, no one could’ve tampered with the elevator. Don’t read too much into it.”

“What if someone interfered with the frequency converter with a high-tech device?” Nian Junting looked at her. “Jiang Yuning suddenly left, and I think he must have figured out something. He asked the manager for the footage within a 100-meter radius from the building, so he must have something in mind that would be able to affect the elevator from that distance. When the interference stopped, the elevator returned to normal. This was just a warning.”

Luosang felt chills running down her spine. “Then we should call the police as soon as possible! We can still catch that suspicious man.”

“I’ll make a police report, but it may not be of use even if we catch him since we don’t have sufficient evidence,” Nian Junting explained, his face troubled. “There’s no evidence left behind when you use radio frequency waves. There aren’t any cameras on the roof either, so who knows what he was doing up there?”
