**Disclaimer

I am only giving my opinion, and please feel free to disagree. Please don't hate/bully/dislike the "novel" just because of my opinions. The purpose of the Q/A is to prompt YOUR thinking. Thank for reading this. (I'm, by all means, just an amateur. I don't study psychology nor philosophy. I'm just giving my point of views on these broad, undefined questions.)

Question today: What is the opposite of a lie? < i="" made="" the="" question="" myself="" :)="" so="" you="" probably="" can't="" this="" anywhere="">

Instead of giving a definite answer or my opinion today, I am just going to discuss this question. Most people would say that the opposite of a lie is the truth, without even thinking. Well, is that true? That's for you to decide. To start off with, I am going to explain what a lie/truth is. By definition, a lie is an intentionally false statement, to purposely deceive others; "Truth" is a fact or belief that is accepted as true.

So here is why I don't think the opposite of "lie" is the truth. I will give you two situations, and it's purely hypothetical.

Situation 1:

WitheringLeaf said, "I think Usain Bolt is faster than me at running."

The above statement is, of course, a fact. In reality, it is a fact too. But is this the truth? Well, yeah. We consider that as true. So it's a fact. Well, he is not lying as well. It's a true statement to begin with, so it cannot be a lie. In this scenario, a lie is indeed the opposite of the truth.

Situation 2:

WitheringLeaf was dead serious and said, "I think I'm faster than Usain Bolt at running."

The above statement is not true, and it is not a fact. Yet, by definition - this is not a lie neither. This is because WitheringLeaf genuinely thinks that he runs faster than Usain Bolt. So this is not intentional, nor he is saying this to deceive others. He is merely giving his opinion. So this doesn't "Qualify" to be a lie. Well, is this the truth then? Yes and no. It is a belief that is accepted as true (WitheringLeaf believes it himself); but it's not a fact, so no.

This is quite confusing, but I hope that you have learnt something or at least thought of something new after reading this. Again, the purpose of this "book" is to prompt you guys' thinking.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. I am just using the dictionary and my logic for this chapter. Comment what you think it's the opposite of a lie.

Again: if you used my ideas in any of your published material/a.s.sessments/homework/anything, please give me credit. Drop me a comment and I will probably be okay with it. (You can join discord if you want to speak to me personally about this kind of stuff/just wanna chat)
