It was 10:30 at night, and Ye’s mother had been taken to the operating room for half an hour. Ye s.h.i.+wei paced back and forth painfully in the empty corridor.
The door of the operating room creaked open, and the doctor walked out with a grave look.
“Family member? Please sign here at first.”
Ye s.h.i.+wei took over the paper and almost fainted when she saw the words “Critically Ill Notice” on it.
“How … how comes?”
“The situation worsens and that’s the best we can do.”
“But you’re the best hospital. How can there be nothing you can do about it?”
Ye s.h.i.+wei’s heart twisted and she couldn’t pick up the pen to sign the paper for a long time. She thought that if she ever did it, her mother would really be gone.
Tears kept dripping down her face and blurred the words on the paper. It was stiflingly quiet around, except the cold and emotionless voice of the doctor.
“Miss Ye, time ticks. Please sign the paper as soon as possible. Only then will there be more hope for your mother.”
Finally, she did it.
For the first time in her life, Ye s.h.i.+wei found it so hard and painful to sign her name.
The light over the door of the operating room was on again, and Ye s.h.i.+wei sat on a bench in the corridor, suffering extremely.
In her pocket was the business card Fang Ze had given her. She hesitated for a long time before dialing the number on it. But over and over again, she input and soon deleted the number, just having no courage to call. In the end, she sent a text message.
“Uncle Fang Ze, I’m sorry to disturb you so late at night, but my mother is in the operating room accepting emergency treatment now. I just signed the critical ill notice. And I really don’t know what to do now.”
Kangren Hospital was already the best hospital in the city. But Ye s.h.i.+wei hoped that even if the doctors here couldn’t save her mother, Mu Tingchen could probably help find other way out.
On the other hand, a tall and robust man stood before the full-length window in the CEO’s office of one office building exclusively owned by Family Mu, which was the tallest building in the bustling city. He slowly swirled the wine in his gla.s.s while looking at the bustling night scene outside the window, and then frowned slightly.
All night long, all he thought of were that pair of eyes which reflected full of stubbornness and cleverness, and the special smell of her body.
It was a very faint smell of milk.
Then came a knock at the door, followed by a respectful voice from outside.
“Boss.”
“Come in.”
Fang Ze handed up the mobile phone, indicating that it was from Miss Ye.
For a moment, the room turned a bit stiflingly quiet.
In fact, Fang Ze was a little uncertain about whether to bother Boss Mu with such trifle, but based on his own observation these days, that girl seemed to matter differently to Boss Mu.
Thus, Fang Ze dared not treat it carelessly.
“What did the doctor say?"
The man’s voice struck as calm and majestic, giving out a dominating air though he was already in the dominating position at work.
“It’s already said to be incurable, and all they can do is to delay it.”
Mu Tingchen slowly tasted a sip of red wine and then spoke calmly, “Contact the dean of Manchester and tell him I will visit him in the near future.”
Fang Ze was astound in wide eyes. “Are you thinking of sending Mrs. Ye to Manchester Hospital? That’s the private research inst.i.tute of the military. Wouldn’t that be crossing the line?”
Fang Ze wanted to say Mr. Mu had made a mountain out of a molehill. But he really dared not.
Instead, he hurriedly changed his tone, “You are only the adopted son of Family Mu. You saved Mu Business from financial crisis at that time, and that can amount to your reward to Elder Mu. Why still …”
“Just take good care of your own job.”
“Yes.”
“Let’s go to Kangren Hospital.”
“… Yes”
