In the comfortable car, countless neon lights flashed outside the window. Fang Ze took a look at Boss Mu in the rearview mirror from time to time before speaking at last, “Boss, your engagement to Miss Li has heatedly hyped by Family Li. It’s said … said that you have gone back on your word and have no credit. What to do next …”
Credit was the most precious for a businessman.
Mu Tingchen closed his eyes and uttered slowly a few words.
“Do you have to ask me such a little thing?”
It actually meant, “Then why do I employ you, a waste of s.p.a.ce?”
“No, no, no. Boss Mu, that’s not what I meant.” Fang Ze explained somewhat hurriedly, “It’s because you’ve agreed to marry Miss Li. So, I thought you did like Miss Li, so … so I don’t dare to make any hasty decision without asking for your permission at first.”
Mu Tingchen frowned.
He agreed to get engaged because he was very comfortable that night, while he went back on his words because Li Haina had made him uncomfortable.
Waking up looking at the woman in his arms that night, he asked nothing though he felt she was different from what he had imagined.
But what happened over the next few days gave him a stronger feeling that the woman that night was not Li Haina.
So, he just cancelled their engagement as simply as he let it started.
Mu Tingchen slowly opened his dark eyes, which struck as unfathomable as the ocean.
Suddenly, he switched the topic and asked, “Have you found something out about what I let you investigate?”
Fang Ze was stunned slightly.
“You asked me to check the whereabouts of Miss Ye on the day of the c.o.c.ktail party. It’s confirmed that Miss Ye has been there that night. She was not on the invitation list, but many of the staff claimed to have seen her that day.”
“Hmm.”
A guess suddenly came to Fang Ze, which almost startled himself.
“Are … are you suspecting it wasn’t Miss Li but Miss Ye that night …”
It was quiet in the car, and looking through the rearview mirror, Fang Ze found the usual arrogance was gone on Mu’s face. Instead, he saw some tenderness on it.
What … what did Boss Mu have in mind?
He dared not ask any more questions, so he focused on driving instead.
It took two turns of the car before a low solemn voice was heard by Fang Ze again.
“What do you think of Ye s.h.i.+wei?”
“Ah, … ah?”
Fang Ze was totally dumbfounded. He had been working for Boss Mu for so many years, but this was the first time he had ever asked for his opinion, and it was about women!
Fang Ze’s brain run at a high speed, for he knew he must only answer after he thought about it carefully.
After a long time of hesitation, he finally gave a meaningless comment on Miss Ye.
“Miss Ye, she … she was quite cute.”
“I think so, too.”
??! Fang Ze couldn’t believe his ears. Mr. Mu, who had never been close to a woman, should be saying a girl’s cute?!
Fang Ze tried his best to calm himself down, and provided an acceptable reason, “Maybe you think she is cute because she is your niece.”
Although she was only his niece nominally, it was accepted as a fact by everyone at least.
So, what Fang Ze had said was also true.
Out of his expectation, no sooner had he finished his words than the man in the back seat darkened his face. His eyes gave Fang Ze the same feeling as being at a deep winter night.
“Shut up!”
Fang Ze trembled with fear and thought to himself, what had he said wrong? Could Boss Mu really want to … with Miss Ye while he reacted so repulsive to the fact that Miss Ye was his niece?
Fang Ze told himself that he must have thought too much. It must be him thinking too much …
