All the evidence was now against Ye s.h.i.+wei, so it was reasonable for the police to suspect her.
Ye was completely fl.u.s.tered.
“I … I've told you, I didn't do it!”
She didn't understand why the police was now more suspicious of her while she had taken the initiative to provide her clues?
Getting greatly agitated, Ye gasped and clutched her chest breathlessly.
The police hurried to call a doctor, while Ye fainted on the sickbed again.
She had a dream in which there was a vast expanse of whiteness and she saw his figure drifting away in a large and empty field.
It was Mu Tingchen.
No matter how loudly she called him, he didn't turn around.
“Uncle!”
She woke from the dream with a start, sitting up all of a sudden with cold sweat on her forehead.
It was a dream. Her chest was now heaving irregularly in short gasps.
“What happened?”
The police rushed inside as soon as he heard the sound.
“I want to make a phone call.”
She had just rummaged through her pocket but couldn't find her phone.
“We have your phone.” The policeman went out to fetch her phone from one of his colleagues after thinking for a moment. “Who do you want to call? I'll dial it for you.”
“My uncle?”
“This one?”
“Hmm.”
Ye watched him dial the number and turn on the speaker, only to hear an official female voice.
“Sorry, the number you have dialed is busy. Please dial later …”
Ye's heart tightened.
“Could you try the number again?”
The police did as she asked.
Once, twice, three times …
He couldn't get through all the time.
“Call Fang Ze.”
Soon, it was connected.
Ye asked a hurry, “Fang Ze! Where's my uncle? Why can't I get through to him?”
“Miss Ye.” There was a tint of apologetic tone in Fang's voice. “The master has something very important to deal with now, and he's not available at the moment.”
“But I …” Her voice got lower and lower as she spoke. “I'm in trouble now. Does … does he know?”
Fang opened his mouth and gave her exactly the answer she was most afraid of hearing right now.
“He knows.”
“Then why …”
Why hadn't he come to save her?
“Miss Ye, your situation's a little tricky. And it's inappropriate for the master to get involved in it for the time being. So if you need anything, please ask the police to contact me directly. I'll provide all the information I know. That's all we can do.”
These words nipped the last remaining hope in Ye's heart.
Before this, she could still console herself that he must have been held up by some other urgent things or maybe he was exactly trying to figure out a way to help her so he didn't show up.
But she never expected …
She now finally got in touch, but found out they were actually anxious to keep her at a distance.
“Miss Ye, please don't blame the master.”
After waiting for a while without getting any response at the other end of the phone, Fang sighed and said helplessly, “The photo of you and the master in the hotel has caused an uproar and made the share prices of Business Mu tumble. Now, the board has suspended the master, so …”
It gave Ye a s.h.i.+ver and she finished for him what he was going to say in a trembling voice.
“So he chose to give up on me in order to keep his job and fame, right?”
Although with difficult, Fang continued to say, “Miss Ye, I'm sure the police will do you the justice.”
Ye couldn't remember what else he had said after that. Her head was buzzing and her mind went blank.
The phone slipped out of her hand and fell to the ground.
Ye closed her eyes hopelessly, and as if hearing the man call her name tenderly, she felt like basking in the warm spring breezes.
But when she opened her eyes again, all she could feel was bitterly cold silence all over the place.
He turned out indeed a heartless person. She was the person who had always dreamed that he would really cherish her all the time.
What a fool!
