He stared back it, a skeleton with fiery red eyes, long pointed horns protruding towards the back of its head and a spine patterned tail. It was an NPC designed to look similar to a Direguard from the game Dungeons and Dragons.

Despite its fear inspiring looks, it supposedly had a singing soothing voice, it was created by Lala who was a huge fan of Beauty and the Beast. Oddly enough, she referred to him as the Beast at many points during their joint adventures.

He knew she liked him, he liked the fact that she did. Yet… He couldn't put himself forward, he wouldn't. Why? It wasn't because of stupid delusion that he wasn't good enough.

It was because he believed that he'd only hurt her. Not because he was a no name rich man from England, but because he was subversive, considered defiant even when surrounded by chaos.

He'd interfere in her career. He'd push people he didn't desire around her away. He ignored societal norms, seeing them as laws he had no hand in creating, therefore were meaningless.

Turning away from the skeleton, Jack would make his way down to the floor below, the Grand Throne Room which was lined with pillars. A grotesque onyx carved throne at the end of the room. A wide blue gold trimmed carpet leading right to it.

His eyes s.h.i.+fted side to side as he walked down the center of the room.

Behind each column was an homunculus NPC.

When he finally narrowed his eyes on the platform the Throne was situated upon, he rested his sights on a regal looking vampire dressed in black victorian clothes. A flat chest, a youthful face, glowing red eyes and jaw framing raven black locks with a small flat ponytail on the back of her head.

One could believe she was a Princess with a monstrous reflection in the back of her eyes.

Jack's gaze s.h.i.+fted towards the clock within his vision as he finally sat down, less than one minute left. The game, it was coming to an end. Slowly he closed his eyes as the countdown began.

Opening his eyes, Jack couldn't help but blink. The game hub was gone, not any sign of the hotkeys for casting spells. Just what was going on here?

Confusion, that was definitely the first thing he felt. Why was he here still? As he could feel the breath from his nose tickle his lower lip, he flickered his eyes over towards movement beside him.

The once very still Vampire Princess, was leaning forward, peering at him from an angle. "Amejisutosukēru-sama?" She'd inquire, "Is something wrong?"

Disgruntled by the fact that she used his screen name, he waved his hand slightly for her to come closer. Without a doubt, without hesitation, she did as he gestured. "How're you talking aloud?"

"Amejisutosukēru-sama?" She blinked her big red eyes at him innocently in a confused manner.

It seemed she didn't understand the question.

Jack pursed his lips slightly, reaching forward and touching the surface of her cheek with his gloved hand. He could feel the temperature of the room. He could feel the cold softness of her skin that held an amazing grey complexion under the blue light.

"...Call me Jack, I will be known as Jack by all who inhabit this place..." Broodily he responded to her confused address towards him. His eyes wondered towards the Homunculi and other NPCs who were wandering out of the shadows from behind the columns.

The Vampire's eyes were locked on the hand which was touching her face, a light red tinge on her face. "Of course, Jack-sama."

Taking in a sharp breath, Jack would lean back into the throne's smooth and frigid hexagonally smooth surface. Resting his jaw against his fist, he didn't quite understanding his situation.

Bizarre ideas were going through his head. Reincarnation, Rebirth, Transmigration. He did a great deal of looking into various ancient cultures and read several eastern fantasy novels.

Whilst he could believe this was that update he wanted, it didn't feel like just an update. He kept his calm, at least visually before everyone else. His eyes just moved about the room, taking in each and every face he saw.

"Jack-sama~ Jack-sama~"

"Hail~ Hail~"

Their words echoed through the throne room, eerily, as the acoustics worked a little too well. All of the NPCs in the room were dressed in Victorian wares and military suits sewn with armor pieces, including some maid uniforms that consisted mainly of just a black dress under a white smock and a white hair bonnet.

Nothing like that of a french maid, but much more simple and less sophisticated in design.

There were fifty five custom NPCs and over three thousand procedurally generated ones. The eleven floor Guardians were level one hundred, while area Guardians were between level eighty and one hundred.

"Lets see if there is a GM..." Subconsciously casting the spell to contact a Game Master, there was no immediate answer, and then there was just no answer at all. It was as if the spell rang into an endless abyss. "Huh..."

Silva blinked a few times when he had tried contacting someone or something called a GM, but said nothing constructive, waiting for orders whilst keeping a facade of innocence.

The Guild was Neutral when it came to overall NPC alignment. Being too Good or too Evil didn't come off as fun to the players who played chaotic characters. So each of the null characters carried ideals of their player counterparts.

Silva was a listener, she obeyed the Authority of only the fifty five members of the Citadel. In front of others, she was quiet and composed. However she is actually a Chuunibyou when in private who over exaggerates or even renames her own powers.

He could remember her creator's impression of her with an adorably crazed expression, 'Fear my Crimson Blashful look of Eyes Paladin-san! For they shalt bore holes into your soul!'

Shaking his head as if trying not to laugh, his eyes turned towards those who knelt down on one knee before the throne only five long paces away from the platform.

"Silva..." His eyes darted over towards the Vampire who nodded her head enthusiastically.

"Mm!?" She was clearly at attention.

"The Game Masters didn't answer the call… Last I checked, no one else was within or remotely near the City." Jack uttered with a frown on his lips, curious of what had transpired.

"Game Masters? Who might be these beings you speak of?" She asked curiously.

"Ah… I'll explain later, as for now. Summon the Floor Guardians to the Throne Room. I want the Area Guardians moved to the entrance of the Citadel." His eyes narrowed on the honor guard NPCs, the ones with victorian themed military suits and armor attachments. "Scout the surrounding area and report back. I want to know everything about the state of the city, but be wary."

"Yes, Jack-sama!" He'd watch as more than half of them jumped to their feet, their loose metal armor pieces clanking about. "It shall be done to your expectations!"

Jack watched as they all slinked out of the room and finally he was alone with Silva who was smiling faintly after them before moving from her spot on her own. "Take your time Silva," he spoke quietly, "Do not rush..."

"As you wish," the Vampire giggled lowly, drawing a cloth fan from her sleeve and batting it through the air as she went to leave the room.

All that remained was Jack, noncombatant NPCs and the Spell Maids.

"As for you lot..." His eyes s.h.i.+fted over those in dresses and noncombat related attire. "Scour the floors. I want to know what's changed and what has remained the same. You are dismissed!"

He'd watch as they would all begin to shuffle out of the chamber. Only one individual remaining out of all that had left. A girl in mix-matched thigh-high striped socks, black pumpkin shorts and a lolita long sleeved dress top. She looked like the typical halloween witch from a party store ad.

She had asymmetrically styled short white hair, tanned olive skin and golden eyes that glistened in the absence of light.

His eyes apathetically rested on the female form which began to hop and skip towards him in inch thick sole, heelless, lolita shoes. The girl was styled to look like the little sister of his avatar.

"Jack-oniisama~!" She'd monotonously speak with a beyond ent.i.tled tone, a halberd-like quarter staff in her held in both hands, as she made her way towards him. A playful sway in the way she walked, "What should I do~? Gimme a Job too!"

Jack just stared at her, she sounded just like his actual sister who died with everyone else.

"No," Jack stood up from the throne as gestured towards it. "You are to sit here."

"Mah!" She stomped her foot at him, disappointment on her face.

"Your job is to compile all the data ascertained by the honor guard and to deliver it to me." Jack relayed this order as he then pointed to the seat sternly.

The expression of disappointment quickly fled as she pressed her ent.i.tled little self into the throne. "Yes Jack-oniisama! I will do my utmost just for you!"

"Make it so..." Clicking his tongue, he turned away as he began to stroll towards the corner of the room behind a column to gaze at a full length mirror. He eyed himself, his eyes for the most part. "Hm..." His eyes drifted down towards his nether regions, his head laxly lulling to the side as he tucked a thumb in along the hem and looked down as he pulled it forward to inspect his unknown set of a.s.sets.
