Artifacts. There are various types for various purposes, all ranging from being a mere unbelievably comfortable chair to powerful weapons of death. But with that said, none of them have been able to be reverse engineered due to the complexity of the very materials they're made of. And that goes without even mentioning the design of the artifacts themselves.

The origins of these artifacts are entirely unknown, but there is no limit to the many speculations on this topic. Some say they are from other worlds. Others think artifacts are gifts from the systems, and the wildest theories claim they were made by ancient monster civilizations.

(3 days later Amelia's POV)

It's already been 3 days since they started making spikes out of various traps. No matter how many times I asked him, the flower would never say anything more than "It's to teach the humans of this world the terrors of guerilla warfare." I've never heard of this guerilla warfare, but from how confident his pheromones seemed it's probably something impressive.

That wasn't the only thing they made. Joe taught the fairies how to make strange sticks which they'd use to dig with. It looked like it was made with a st.u.r.dy stick small enough for them to comfortably carry and two to three flat teeth from humans strapped to one end. This, along with an a.s.sortment of other tools, were used to construct the sticks and various other things by the dozen.

While they were at it, they enlisted our help in digging shallow holes within our reach in and out of the grove. I'm not sure what exactly Joe is planning to do, but whatever it is, I am thankful for it. The humans were most likely going to come back like he thought. And when they do, they will come back in numbers. A long time ago, humans who were much weaker than the "adventurers" we faced, fought me back when even the second oldest of us was little more than a sapling.

I alone, barely managed to fight off the half dozen humans, but then a few days more a couple dozen of the humans returned with their sticks tipped with metal spikes and blades. Needless to say, I won at the cost of receiving several serious wounds. They thankfully weren't very determined to kill me and retreated after a fourth of their forces were killed.

Turning my attention to the burned birch tree, I couldn't stifle the hate I felt towards myself for not being able to protect her. There was a time when I didn't care for my siblings. A time I had no siblings. But when my first sibling, the maple tree came about, I watched her grow. Sometimes not helping her when she got caught up in conflict with the local monsters. Other times stepping in whenever she drew the ire of something out of her depth.

I told myself I was only doing it because it would be bothersome to let those lowly beasts do what they wished in my territory. Then because I told myself it would be lonely without her company. But I knew the real reason. I just didn't want to admit it. I thought it would make me weak. But I was wrong. It made me strong. Stronger than I could ever be when I was alone and selfish.

I nurtured her, taught her how to survive. We laughed and killed together. And when the rest of our family began to sprout, we began to take care of them as well. For so long we stayed together and took care of each other as a family. I nurtured every dryad in this grove. But I still wasn't able to protect them from the humans. But this time. This time I would. No matter the cost.

(Joe's POV)

"Spider Flower! Spider Flower! Does whatever a Spider Flower does! Can he swing from a web? No he can't, he's a flower. Look out! He is the Spider Flower!" I sang while swinging on tree branches with my vines on my patrol of the edge of the forest.

I've been at this for the last few hours. We set up as many traps as we could and all we could do now was wait for any adventurers to show up. If our human foes didn't show up then great! We still had all the traps set up to fend off any b.a.s.t.a.r.d dumb enough to try and enter this part of the forest. But if they did come after us, our traps would be able to injure them in substantial numbers.

My trap warfare isn't about killing enemies. No, it's much more nefarious than that! These traps are designed to maim people, forcing others to take care of them which means even more people are unavailable for the actual fighting!

Worse yet through slathering various…substances on spikes! I can promote infection and blood poisoning in the bodies of the victims to kill them in the long run. All without actually confronting the enemy.

Well that's only if the enemy actually cares about their fallen comrades. Monsters who don't really work together won't stop for their brethren, and swarm monsters like those b.a.s.t.a.r.d ants will only throw bodies at the problem. I wonder what happened to those ants? But I digress. This conflict with the adventurers is like the war between Vietnam and the US.

The US, which is the adventurers in this case, are overwhelmingly superior in numbers, equipment, and training in general. Meanwhile, us monsters and our loose alliance are the guerilla fighters who basically are pretty much f.u.c.ked in any serious fight head to head. That is if we don't whittle them down. Even a guild of determined adventurers will give up after enough of them are sent back home crippled or in various stages of sicknesses!

Hm? What's that I see in the distance? It looks like… It looks like a wagon being pulled by a cross between a cow and a lizard. And walking around it is what looks to be… ADVENTURERS!! A LOT OF THEM!!

There were around 30-40 adventurers walking around the cart with who knows what in the wagon to supply them. And they are heading directly towards our little corner of the forest! I have to get back to the others! I knew we'd be facing a lot of adventurers but just the thought of how many mages that must be amongst them is quite frankly, terrifying. And to make it worse, there are a scary number of adventurers with so much armor stacked on them, that they looked like walking tanks.

This is going to be both the most dangerous, but possibly the most rewarding, battle I'll ever take part in. Why the h.e.l.l was I reborn as a monster?
