"I always find myself in this situation," Owen said as he was being dragged by the neck. "At least once a year… always around this time… just before Christmas…"
"Shut it," Chaley said doing the dragging. "You need to help me."
"So what's new?" Owen said as he was taken by his favourite shop window that whenever he pa.s.sed would cause him a great deal of pain. "Are you going to throw me into that?"
"I will if you aren't careful."
The two of them casually strolled around the usual shopping centre as snow fell and began to set.
"It's rather warm," Owen said despite only wearing a jumper and jeans in snow.
"It'll only get colder," Charley said tiredly from all the dragging.
"So what's the plan!" Owen said jumping up and ready to get this all over with. "Where to first?"
"Just over here."
Owen looked up to the shop sign filled with enough energy to complete any task that was about to be thrown in front of him. He lifted up his head high and smiled brightly when he saw the shop. His smile was as forced as they come. He saw that it was a clothes shop and wanted to leave. He had to leave. He couldn't go through clothes shopping. It was too painful for him.
"Alright!" he said pus.h.i.+ng Chaley in. "Let's be quick. I want to go home."
They walked around the shop, with Owen forcing Charley to move every 5 minutes. If she stopped for that long to look at something he would start to make snide comments until she got annoyed and moved on.
"So… how are things," Charley said trying to make conversation.
"Not bad could be worse," Owen said. "I could be you."
Charley was upset with the comment that Owen threw at her. Not because it offended her but because there was no way she could cause Owen pain with all these witnesses around.
"How are things between you and Ruby?" Charley asked not to Owen's surprise.
"Fine, same as always."
"Did you give her an answer? Have you told her? Are you leaving her waiting? With only a few months left till you graduate?"
Charley dug into Owen's love life with useless questions not giving Owen a chance to speak.
"Slow down…" Owen said. "I haven't told her anything-"
"And why not!" Charley interrupted pulling his hand back until it was at breaking point.

"I-I j-just don't know what to say. All this drama about relations.h.i.+ps is off-putting…" he said in agonising pain.
"Since when did you care about others feelings? You've seen Sean and Lily. They are doing things their way so why don't you? You've even kissed so you are one step ahead of them…"
"Jealous are we?" Owen remarked.
Despite all the witnesses and potential undercover cop around, Charley decided it was worth it to kill him and let his body rot in the wall he was just forced into.
"It's just strange…" Owen said. "I think Ruby is a good friend. But I don't think I've seen her as more."
"Oh? So if you both went your separate ways after graduation and you met each other 10 years later and she was married you'd be fine with that?"
Owen was unsure what to make of Charley's question and hesitated before answering, feeling a strange annoyance in his mind.
"U-um… S-sure."
"Sure? What do you mean sure? You really are strange. Listen, you've helped me so now it's my turn to help you. You need to consider this."
"What are you doing?" Owen asked. "You can't force two people to be together, trust me, I tried it only ended badly."
"Yeah, but that was handled by you. This is handled by me. Big difference."
At this point, Owen thought about the source of his annoyance and he believed that he had just discovered it.
"Let me handle it…" Owen said shoving his hand in Charley's face causing her to bite it.
"No!" She said as she was chewing. "You need to think about it seriously. Everyone in your year is an idiot. I learnt this at a sleepover the other day. You are all idiots who don't know anything about love."
Owen listened to Charley's words and thought about how dumb she sounded as she was the one saying them.
"That means nothing coming from someone who keeps getting rejected. What happened to your stalker friend!?"
"SHUT UP!" She screamed dislocating Owen's arm and throwing him into another wall. "Don't you dare mention anything like that again!"
Owen wasn't sure if he was imagining thing because of the concussion, but he was certain that fire had appeared around Charley's hair and eyes.
"Alright, I'll listen to you," Owen said now sitting in the snow. "What do you want to say?"
"Oh?" She replied not expecting to get this far. "Just try to be nice, if you want to reject her do it properly and tell her. That's what you told me, right?"
Owen fell back into the soft bed of snow that had set during the time it took them to look around 1 shop, thinking about his friends.h.i.+ps and past.
"Fine…" he said. "I'll think about it."
"Good…" Charley said as she knelt next to him. "So long as you try, no one will hate you."
Her smile was pure. Pure enough that Owen could see some light in it. Although he smirked it off as he thought it was stupid there was some truth he understood in it. Looking at the attempts Ethan made and the success of Sean he was willing to consider it seriously. But with only a few months till graduation, time was running out.
