"Gene, is he not your mate?" asked Alcon,
This was a battle waiting to happen. I think he was baiting. Knights glared coolly, a direct challenge in his gaze was enough to know that it was working but he was going to be stupid.
"Deal was for happily ever after. Al you have to remember that until the wedding anything can happen. Don't count your chicken before they hatch. Right?" I said, my gaze locked on Alcon, "I am happy but will it last? Is something going to happen?"
He flinches.
Knight flinches.
I knew that Knight was not happy but I didn't care. The truth was I did not sign up to lie to my friends or people I cared for. Lies are things that just simply wasn't done. I knew first hand of the pain of breaking the rules, the punishment didn't come from the council or the guards, it'd come from a higher plain. There was nothing but a beloved mate that would push me to do the unthinkable.
Then looking at them clearly I saw something else in Alcon eyes that should not be there. It was a pity.
"Is there something I don't know about?" I asked pus.h.i.+ng Al to answer.
"Nothing, Gene," Al said looking straight at us.
"Alcon, this is not any of your concern." Knight didn't deign to turn away, "I will do what I want and you will mind your own business. Is that clear?"
"Isn't it?"
"She's mine." roar Alpha Knight,
Alcon's eyes bugged out of their sockets as he choked. Most of his men turned a very nasty shade of purple. They must've never seen the boss like this before.
I barely hid a grin, focusing on the middle b.u.t.ton of Alcon's dress s.h.i.+rt. We've been close and currently in the awkward phase. The last thing I wanted to do was humiliated him in front of his team and his people and his friends but he shouldn't have provoked Knight. This was like punching a bulldog in the face. He was going to get it, Knight was not impressed and he would take out anyone that would dare touch his mate even a fake one like me. Even if I was not he'd never let Alcon go without bloodshed.
