Chapter 220: Chapter 220 – All Sc.u.mbags Must Die
Amidst the tumultuous waves of a black sea, only a tall platform could be seen. On the platform were several uninvited guests.
“The final checkpoint was forced to change so directly?”
On the screen, Ren Suo saw a black sun hanging in the sky in the distance. The sun was overflowing with black juice, which fell onto the land like a waterfall, submerging the entire land in a sea of black juice. The entire scene looked just like black juice pouring out of the Holy Grail.
“Is this ‘spectacular’ sight the result of clearing the previous six checkpoints and the powers of all the Holy Grails fusing together as one in the final checkpoint…”
At that juncture, a young, scantily-clad, blonde girl standing on the tall platform turned to look at the mages. She said expressionlessly: [I, Leonis, did not expect myself to be the last one. I did not think that all of you would still be alive either.]
On the other side of the tall platform, was a man in a gray robe, whose face was half sinister-looking and half like a typical teenager. He held a book made of human skin in his hands as he looked emotionlessly at them.
Red Hood said: [So it is him.]
Lumpena said: [How did he not turn into a monster…?]
Nimue said: [The time has finally come…]
Elaine said: [Let’s begin.]
Ding Delan said: [That’s unfortunate, his blood reeks of monsters…]
Freya said: [Is that the guy mentioned in the textbook?]
Ren Suo chose the blond mage as his game character this time. He asked: [Who exactly is he?]
Leonis replied: [He is Merlin, the demiG.o.d. He was once… the most powerful mage.]
The final boss was actually a mage?
Well, Ren Suo was not too surprised. He had seen many of such plots before, where the final boss was actually an ally, the final love rival was one’s best friend, or where the final opponent was a friend…
As the mages approached Merlin, he closed the book of human skin and looked at them.
Merlin said: [You have finally come… Bring it on then. Along with the despair within my body… end everything.]
Blood was flowing out of Merlin’s body—black juice spewed out of his eyes, nose, and mouth, and polluted his entire body. Meat wings grew out of his right skull and back, and feather wings grew out of his left skull and back, making him look like a four-winged angel.
Suddenly, his right hand began swelling, and every piece of the muscles on his right hand grew to the size of a human head. The muscles ripped open to reveal countless eyeb.a.l.l.s within, and each eyeball stared deadly at the mages.
The head of an infant grew out from the left side of Merlin’s skull, and the head of an old person also grew out from the left side of his skull. The two heads were both screaming in agony; the cries of the infant were shrilly and tender, while the shrieks of the old person spoke of the vicissitudes of life.
An illusory ball of light surrounded Merlin, and runes, which were almost br.i.m.m.i.n.g with black juice, encircled around the ball of light.
He pressed the book made of human skin gently on his left chest and said: [Come over now, it’s time to kill the thoughts of longing.]
The mages attacked at the same time. However, Merlin was unlike the previous bosses—he could teleport faster than the mages, and he was also stronger than them!
Wherever he moved to, an explosion would follow in his place. Knives of blood were released with every move he made, and obstacles appeared from the land with every light leap he took. When the mages went closer to him, the agonizing screams from the infant’s head and the old person’s head slowed the mages’ movements. Furthermore, the runes and light s.h.i.+eld surrounding him reflected the energy of their attacks!
[The Watchmen of the Federation has come to… Ah!]
After the boss battle began, Pract.i.tioners from the outside world began entering the mystery realm to provide support to the mages. Perhaps it was because of the strong ‘healing ability’ of Mage which they experienced previously that quite a large number of people came in this time. It was as if they were not scared of being harmed or even killed within the mystery realm.
However, the very moment they entered the mystery realm, they were all killed.
Merlin’s spells were too quick, and almost all of them were AOE spells: Blood Knives, Land of Blood, and Blood b.a.l.l.s of Death. They were all spells that affected a large area. Only the mages who possessed the same teleportation abilities as Merlin did were able to avoid and defend against the attacks.
On the other hand, the ordinary Pract.i.tioners were easy targets for Merlin. Even if he tried with all his might, Mage was still unable to help the Pract.i.tioners to remain on the battlefield for long. Only a few of them could keep up with the pace of the battle with their individual defense ability and movement speed.
Firearms were virtually insignificant against Merlin, much like how they were essentially insignificant against mages. In the face of an enemy who could teleport from place to place in an instant, there was absolutely no opportunity to take aim with the weapons.
Very quickly, all of the Pract.i.tioners were killed. Mage and his companions were also on the brink of death, and remaining on the battlefield… was the Hitman!
The Hitman, who could use [Bullet Time], was the external aid which Ren Suo chose!
As the only ordinary person on the battlefield, the Hitman managed to avoid numerous attacks with Bullet Time. He even managed to shoot and hit Merlin with his gun—but it was not at all effective.
In less than half a minute, the remaining health of all the mages fell below the safe threshold—and that was still with the heals from Elaine and Mage. Then, Ren Suo controlled Mage to activate [Finger Iron Chain] and [Breath of Fire Skin]!
The female mages and the Hitman seized the opportunity to deal as much damage to Merlin as possible. Just before the effect of [Finger Iron Chain] wore off, Ren Suo controlled Mage to activate [Holy Sword of the Spine], which severely damaged Merlin—
[Target HP: 92%]
“How does he still have so much HP remaining?!” exclaimed Ren Suo, stunned. He launched [Finger Iron Chain] again to continue restraining Merlin, then activated [Summon of the Eye Devils] and [Blood Sword of the Heart]!
[Blood Sword of the Heart: The user sacrifices his heart to turn the blood in his heart into a sword. Blood swords can be drawn from the heart of the user by other people. The user would be unable to move when the spell is cast. The duration of the effect is 30 seconds. As the side effect of the spell, the maximum health of the user would be permanently decreased by half.]
Blood Sword of the Heart was undoubtedly the favorite Forbidden Spell of the Sacred Hand Mage. As long as the Sacred Hand Mage was able to avoid attacks from the enemy in time, he could consistently deal long-ranged attacks without going close to the enemy. At the same time, he could continue healing allies, and the amount of health he had did not matter.
That Forbidden Spell was only taught to Mage in the sixth checkpoint by Freya, so it was also the first time Ren Suo used it. Nonetheless, the effect seemed decent: the female mages went over to extract giant Blood Swords from within the main character’s body and used them to pierce Merlin ruthlessly!
[Target HP: 85%]
A series of ultimate spells only depleted 15% of his health? On the other hand, however, Mage had used up all of his Forbidden Spells and did not have any other means to stop Merlin!
Just as they were all about to be slain, Red Hood made her move—
[Iron Finger Chain] and [Breath of Fire Skin]!
All of his companions knew how to cast Forbidden Spells!
“Could the checkpoint be cleared just by having everyone cast their Forbidden Spells…?”
If that was the case, Ren Suo might still be able to accept the result. Although he felt that the more companions who remained alive when he completed the game, the higher his mission score would be, the most important thing was still… to be able to clear the mission!
One after another, the companions cast their Forbidden Spells to restrict Merlin’s movements. At the same time, the other mages made use of the opportunity to deal ma.s.sive damage to Merlin—one moment, ice shards and fire knives danced through the air, and the next moment, fists of stone and spears of light crossed paths.
Only with the Sacred Hand route could there be that many companions who survived until the final checkpoint. By continuously casting their Forbidden Spells, the mages barely managed to prevent Merlin from moving and his health dropped by almost half!
While he was bound, Merlin shouted: [This… is still not enough!]
Suddenly, the book in his right hand that was made of human skin burst into a glow of blood. It was a familiar sight to Ren Suo—he was ‘sacrificing’!
The book that was made of human skin burst into light and countless pages scattered all around. Then, the pages came back together and turned into a man who donned a black robe with red designs on it!
[Librom, unleash your thoughts!]
Red Hood, who had lost both of her hands, retreated to the back. She looked at the man who just emerged and was visibly perplexed. She said: [Librom…]
Librom, who just appeared, seemed to know all of the female mages. He said: [I did not expect that I would still be able to see you, Red Hood, Lumpena, Elaine, Ding Delan… All of you… are indeed the strongest and most powerful mages I have met.]
[And you… the mage who appeared because of the Holy Grail.]
Ren Suo asked: [Who is he?]
Red Hood replied: [He is a good friend of Merlin the DemiG.o.d and a powerful mage who is known all around the world. He is also… a good friend of mine. Or perhaps I should say, he is a good friend of everyone here, except you.]
Lumpena said: [What do you mean by a ‘good friend’, he is my lover.]
The moment Lumpena finished her sentence, the other female mages who were attacking Merlin also slowed down in their attacks.
Elaine retorted angrily: [What do you mean by he’s your lover? Is every guy your lover! Librom is my lifelong partner!]
Leonis grunted coldly: [You’re just a puppet wrapped in a white piece of cloth, what would you know about love and fun?]
Nimue said indifferently: [What scams are all of you? I am his senior, and I spent countless days and nights with him.]
Ding Delan laughed and said: [I’m not interested in fighting with all of you for him, but I can never forget his blood… and sperm.]
Freya said: [He is my source of warmth and also my pillow. Watch what you speak.]
Ren Suo, who was constantly dispensing Spears of Holy Light, was spewing with anger.
Was he not just playing a game, why did he have to encounter a harem king too?!
Ren Suo originally thought that the reason why the group of female mages always seemed to be at odds with one another was because of some intriguing reason. Who would have expected that it was actually so intriguing—it was because they were fighting over the same guy!
Wait—did that mean that he was on their side?
Librom’s hands were gleaming with blood. He said: [I’m sorry. I am just a strand of thoughts, and merely a memory controlled by Merlin.]
[Nevertheless, Red Hood, Lumpena, Elaine, Ding Delan… I loved you.]
The first attempt at defeating the final boss resulted in the death of the entire team, in the hands of Librom, the sc.u.mbag.
An angry shout coming from a gamer who was single resonated through the night sky: “All sc.u.mbags must die!”
