'd.a.m.n, the congestion is worse than I thought.'
Long Yu and Xixi were not the only ones who wanted to leave the city. Honks could be heard everywhere around him, as every car desperately wanted to move forward.
They were now stuck in traffic and the drivers around him were obviously doing a good job attracting zombies with their honks.
Long Yu could not blame them. In this situation, even if the drivers knew about the zombies' sensitive hearing, they would do so regardless.
The reason everyone was stuck on the highway, was due to the multiple car accidents that happened, when all humans suddenly fell unconscious.
Looking at his rear mirror, he could see the horror occurring in the distance behind him.
A horde of zombies had rushed here from the city, attracted by the blaring sounds. As they reached the cars, they would break the windows and drag the people inside, out of their cars.
Once succeeded, the zombies would then proceed to sink their teeth into their victims, violently biting off their flesh.
Even inside the car, Long Yu could hear bloodcurdling screams of pain and terror, resounding all over the highway.
Although he was confident that the bulletproof windows of his Black Shark could withstand the impact from the zombies' attack, he did not want to test it.
Furthermore, once his car is surrounded by hundreds of zombies, it would make it hard for it to even accelerate.
In the front, he could see multiple cars on his lane trying to make it to the opposite side. The highway has 6 lanes, with each 3 going the opposite direction.
Compared to the road leaving the city, the other side had fewer crashes and many gaps. It would be possible for drivers to weave their cars around them. However, due to there being a thick concrete barrier in the middle, the drivers were unable to drive their cars over it.
As the zombies behind got closer, many desperate drivers tried to force their way through, by smas.h.i.+ng their cars into the barrier.
Unfortunately, even if Long Yu tries to do so with his armoured car, it would be impossible to smash through it. There was simply not enough s.p.a.ce for his car to gain enough momentum to do so. Moreover, the barrier was parallel to the right side of his car, only less than a meter away.
The only thing Long Yu could think of, was destroying the barrier with explosives or creating some sort of ramp.
He opted to make a ramp instead, due to fear of destroying the road, which might make it even harder for him to drive to the other side.
Stretching his head out of the window, he estimated the measurement of the gap between his car and the barrier.
Then he connected to the exchange function of the system, and purchased what he needed.
All of a sudden, a long triangular shaped metal object, weighing hundreds of kilograms slowly materialised on the ground next to the Black Shark.
It was a metal ramp that Long Yu hurriedly exchanged from the system. Since there were no restrictions, he simply customised its length and shape to fit the measurements that he wanted.
Once the ramp appeared, Long Yu did not hesitate to fully steer the wheel to the right, and step on the accelerator. He had made the ramp to be long and heavy enough for his armoured car to cross it without destabilising.
Although the bottom of his car caused a screeching noise when it sc.r.a.ped the top of the concrete barrier, there was nothing to worry about. The armoured skid plate of the Black Shark could easily withstand explosive mines, much less a simple scratch.
When he reached the opposite side, Long Yu looked back and caught a glimpse of the terrifying scene happening behind him.
The number of zombies that were approaching, had already reached thousands. More and more people fell victim to the claws and bites of the zombies. The sheer number of zombies had drowned the entire highway. Not even the sight of a car could be seen behind them anymore.
Long Yu quickly drove off, leaving the area. He did not even care about the crashed vehicles in front of him, as they would immediately disappear once he got within a certain range.
Looking at the pa.s.senger seat, he saw that Xixi was slightly trembling. It seems that the sight of the zombies had caused her to recall some bad memories. He could only take out some of her favourite candies to comfort her.
Once Long Yu had driven far enough, he stopped the car at the roadside. Activating the screen on the dashboard, he keyed in the coordinates of Xixi's mother into the built-in gps system.
He was surprised as the gps could even display maps of several different countries. It was similar to the online 'google maps', except it was far more advanced and detailed.
It showed that their destination was more than one thousand miles away. Changing the view into 3 dimensional mode, he slowly surveyed the route that they have to take.
Long Yu frowned as he saw that other than dirt roads and forests, he also has to travel through some metropolitan areas, which he wanted to avoid most. Although it would be easier to find supplies in more populated areas, it also meant that there would be countless zombies roaming around.
It was not impossible to take detours around those places, but that would drastically increase the amount of travel time needed to reach their destination. Right now, Long Yu hoped that the military would take action and secure some of those areas, making it safe for them to pa.s.s through.
'Hai… if only we could fly to the coordinates instead...'
Long Yu shook his head at that thought. The sound of a chopper or plane was way too loud. He s.h.i.+vered when he recalled the scene of the giant eagle at the hotel. The sky had always been the territory of flying creatures, now even more so.
