She noticed that the person was actually Xixi, who she was trying to save. The little girl, with her face tucked into her knees, was crying in a soft voice.
'My body looks different?' Luo Xi examined her own body and realised that it was no longer corporeal like before. At the same time, it did not look like her real body as well.
'Perhaps this is my soul?' such a thought popped up in her head.
Regardless, Luo Xi was sure that she was currently not in the real world.
Suddenly, Xixi, who noticed the presence of a stranger, lifted her head and stared at Luo Xi.
"Big sister, who are you?" She asked Luo Xi with a face still full of tears.
'What do I do now?' Being stared at by the girl, she did not know how to reply.
"Is big sister here to save me from the bad guys?" Xixi asked in a pitiful tone.
"Umm...En, big sister came here to save you," Luo Xi tried to sound calm, but a hint of anxiousness could be heard in her voice. In truth, she too did not know how she would be able to help the girl.
Seeing the excited expression on the little girl's face, Luo Xi felt extremely guilty. She could only bite the bullet and walked towards Xixi. She then reached her hand out to help the girl up.
As soon as their hands came into contact, an odd sensation overcame the both of them. At the side, the red and azure glowing orbs started to intertwine and flew towards them. Then, the orbs separated again before they each respectively dove into the girls' bodies. Luo Xi had received the red orb while Xixi received the azure orb.
'What just happened?' this thought played in both their minds.
Although there were no changes to her appearance, Luo Xi felt something within her. It was slowly but surely flowing through her soul.
…..
Outside…
Just as the zombies were about to leap and dive into Xixi's flesh, a sudden azure glow flashed in the little girl's eyes.
Those ugly creatures that were in mid-jump, smashed into an invisible wall, causing them to awkwardly fall onto the ground. Although they quickly got up and tried to attack her again, it proved to be useless. Whenever their claws struck within a certain proximity of her, they would harmlessly bounce off.
Luo Xi who was watching from inside, was stunned.
'Is this what big brother referred to as a special ability?' she thought to herself.
Luo Xi had overheard Long Yu speaking to himself multiple times about special abilities and whatnot. It was her first time witnessing such a thing happen.
'Was it because of the orbs?' As she looked towards the soul form of Xixi, she could see that the girl's body was currently surrounded by azure coloured hexagonal particles. Each particle reflected a gleam similar to gla.s.s. From her observation, she figured Xixi's ability was likely related to some kind of protective barrier.
'Then what about me?' Luo Xi too had received a red orb . Did it mean she has now gained a special ability?
Although Xixi was now safe within the protection of her barrier, Luo Xi did not feel relieved. She could see some of the particles surrounding Xixi faltering from the continuous attacks of the zombies. It would seem that there was a limit to the barrier's endurance.
Luo Xi wanted to urge Xixi to take the chance to escape from this location. As long as the barrier was up, they could move around without fearing the zombies' attacks.
Unfortunately, she had forgotten that Xixi was just a child. Seeing the girl stubbornly wanted to go look for her mother, she could only relent. It was not like she could control her anyway.
...
Luo Xi, inside Xixi's body was currently watching Long Yu fight a zombie. Although she wanted to help him, she knew better than to ask the little girl to join the battle. It might even make things worse.
…..
"Xixi, hurry and go help my big brother!" Luo Xi anxiously held the girl's shoulders in their soul forms.
Although the intense battle had ended and Long Yu had killed the zombie, she could see that he could not hold on any longer. As he had been stabbed by the zombie's claw, he was now in a dangerous condition.
Without her saying any further, Xixi had already jumped off the pa.s.senger seat and ran towards Long Yu as fast as her little legs could bring her.
....
"Big brother! Big brother! Let me out!"
Xixi had been locked inside the car by Long Yu, in fear that he might attack her when he turns into a zombie.
Due to the car's lockdown system, she could not exit the car even if she wanted to.
Luo Xi was truly panicking. She wished she could just take control of Xixi's body and move on behalf of her. Just as this thought hit her, she suddenly saw Xixi's soul beside her slumped backwards.
Luckily she managed to catch the girl in time. Luo Xi then stabilised Xixi and slowly adjusted her into a sleeping position on the ground.
"Xixi, what happened? Are you alright?" Luo Xi asked worriedly.
"Big sister, Xixi feels very sleepy.. Xixi wants to sleep…." she said in a weak voice.
*su* *su*
Before Luo Xi could reply, the girl had already fallen asleep. Hearing her soft snores, she could only stand there speechless.
Regardless, she felt that Xixi's action was a bit abnormal. Why is she suddenly so exhausted?
'Could it be the side effects of her special ability?' she wondered.
She had noticed that the little girl's face was a bit pale earlier, but she had brushed it off, thinking it was her fear of the zombies.
Luo Xi's guess was actually close to the truth. Due to her using her special ability for the first time, combined with her still developing const.i.tution, Xixi's soul had been over-drafted. Hence, in order for the soul to recuperate itself, she had been forced into slumber.
"Oh right! I need to help big brother! But Xixi is…"
The moment she subconsciously wanted to move Xixi's real body, she realised that she was actually in control!
"How could this be!?" her eyes widened in shock. Luo Xi had obviously tried to do so multiple times after her soul entered Xixi's body. To think it actually worked this time.
"Could it be because Xixi's soul is asleep?" Although she couldn't confirm it, she had a hunch that her guess was right.
Suppressing her joy, Luo Xi quickly tried to open the pa.s.senger side's door. However, it stayed unmoved while its handle only made clicking sounds.
'Right, the windows!' After calming herself down, she tried her last option. Thankfully, Xixi's figure was small so she could effortlessly climb to the driver's seat.
Luo Xi prayed hard as she gingerly pressed the b.u.t.ton to wind down the window on the driver's side.
'Zzzz….'
The mechanical buzzing sound accompanied by the lowering tinted gla.s.s window were like music to her ears.
Once it was all the way down, Luo Xi, without hesitation, climbed out of the opened car window.
After that, she hastily ran to Long Yu's side. Seeing his state, her heart ached. He had fainted and his s.h.i.+rt was drenched with blood from the zombie's attack.
Although the zombie corpse had magically disappeared, she was not surprised. She knew it must have been due to her big brother's ability.
As her eyes followed his right hand which was stretched out, she realised that he was trying to reach for something. Luo Xi picked up the curious looking coin sized spherical object from the gravel ground, and walked towards Long Yu.
After some difficulty of waking him up, she placed the mutant core on his palm.
Luo Xi breathed a sigh of relief when she saw him healing himself with a futuristic syringe that he exchanged from his system. She did not care what was inside the syringe, as long as it could save him.
"Xixi, let's hurry and get into the car, it's not safe here," he urged her. Before Long Yu could remove the lockdown on the car, he fell unconscious once again.
Luo Xi wanted to facepalm herself even though she knew it was not her brother's fault. It was just that she had gone through a rollercoaster of emotions within this past hour.
With no choice, she could only sit down in a kneeling position on the ground, and place Long Yu's head onto her lap so that he would feel more comfortable.
As Luo Xi touched her big brother's face for the first time in a long while, she suddenly saw two teenagers running towards her direction, bringing along a group of zombies.
'Tsk'
She clicked her tongue, feeling displeased about the bunch of hindrance in front of her. A dark red light flashed in her pupils as she prepared herself for the incoming danger.
Ever since she took control of Xixi's body, Luo Xi had experienced an inexplicable sensation within her. In her mind, she felt as if she had control over everything around her, albeit within a limited proximity.
She knew that this was likely to be connected to the red orb that her soul had obtained earlier. If she was right, she now possesses a special ability like Xixi.
Unknown to herself, Luo Xi's talent has far exceeded many present and future ability users' by many times. Even though she just received this ability, her exceptional control over it has already proved her worth.
While Luo Xi tried to take care of the zombies with as minimal effort as she could muster, the usage of her ability still heavily drained her soul. This was due to her using her soul to bear the brunt of the exhaustion, in order not to damage Xixi's already tired mind. Although there were two souls inside Xixi, she only has one brain after all, not to mention that it was still developing.
After chasing those two troublemakers away, Luo Xi tried to hold on as long as possible until they could enter the Black Shark.
Some time later….
Staring at Long Yu from the pa.s.senger's seat, Luo Xi had a look of reluctance on her face. She had a feeling that it would be a while again before she could see her big brother in person.
