"I have no idea. I don't think so though.. there aren't any clouds over Singapore at the moment."
"The lightning strikes have been going non-stop for a while now... Don't you think it's weird?"
"It is. Probably it's another impact of global warming."
"Oh, s.h.i.+t. We really need to quickly move to Mars."
People began looking up to the sky because the constant thunder roaring after each flash of lightning scared their children and pets. This had never happened before.
After five minutes, they started to become worried. Was this really a natural phenomenon?
Meanwhile, up in the sky, Therius, who had never met an electromancer before, moved swiftly to dodge Emma's lightning bolts. Once in a while, he would fend off the incoming charges with his aeromancy by creating a powerful air-s.h.i.+eld to protect himself.
He waved his hand to ward off the lightning coming at him and deflected it elsewhere. After a while, he started to feel agitated. However, he did not want to return Emma's attack with offensive charges because he was worried he would hurt her at her present mental state.
Based on his quick observations, Emma's energy level was really far below him. She didn't even have one-third of his strength. If he attacked Emma, he could easily hurt her.
Finally, he chose to stay on the defensive side and keep dodging and deflecting her onslaught until Emma became exhausted.
"You are heartless! You don't deserve to be a king ...! I'm happy that I decided to leave Akkadia and cut ties with your sc.u.mmy planet!" Emma screamed while launching a strike after strike with all her might. "I don't want to have a king like you! Jerk! Heartless...!"
After half an hour, she finally became exhausted, and her lightning bolts were no longer directed toward Therius properly... And slowly, she couldn't even raise her hand anymore.
"You are just like Princess Arreya, who has multiple powers," Therius said in admiration when he saw Emma panting and had stopped her attack. "It's a shame that all those amazing powers are wasted because you can't train properly ..."
"My powers are none of your business," Emma said, panting. Her hair was now disheveled and her face red in anger. Still, she looked like a G.o.ddess in Therius' eyes.
"I can train you, Emma. I can also get the best teachers in Akkadia to train you. You can enter the academy and study from the legends," Therius shook his head in concern. "Too bad, with five types of powers, you cannot even graze me. Such a waste ..."
Emma looked at Therius with a hateful look. She knew Therius had the power to help Haoran, but he refused to do it.
This prince was heartless and selfish, unlike Haoran, who was kind and selfless, thought Emma. Why can't they switch places?
Since they first met, Haoran always helped Emma without expecting anything in return. Even when he blew out his birthday candles, he didn't wish for himself to meet his mother, but he wished for Emma to see her parents.
Thinking about Haoran made Emma's tears dripped again. Finally, she drifted down to the penthouse terrace. As her body slumped to the floor, she broke down and sobbed.
"Haoran ... I'm sorry ... I can't defeat him to get you helped..." Emma cried painfully as she buried her face in her hands.
Xion was stunned at the doorway, staring at the scene. He really felt sorry for Emma, who was forced to be in such a difficult position.
He never cared about anyone else before. The only person he considered important besides himself, was Therius. But this week, Therius had disappointed him by bullying a helpless girl and Xion felt utterly embarra.s.sed for not being able to help her. He had promised his best friend not to interfere.
He was about to walk over to Emma, but Therius was faster. The man had landed beside Emma and reached out his hand to help the girl stand up.
Emma looked up when she saw Therius's hand stretched out. She was indeed exhausted and could hardly stand up.
Emma wiped her tears and raised her left hand to touch Therius's stretched out hand. The man nodded and smiled faintly.
'He said he would admit defeat if I could graze his body, even just a little, right?' Emma furrowed her brows.
Suddenly, she pulled Therius's hand hard. With the last of her strength, she hit the man's chest as hard as she could with her right hand, charged with electricity.
"Aaah!!"
Both screamed. Therius, was shocked because he did not expect Emma to cheat and attack him without warning, while Emma felt that her hands were burning.
When Emma pulled him hard, Therius used pyromancy to surround his body with the hottest flame, out of reflex.
As soon as her right hand hit Therius chest, Emma bounced 15 meters away from him and landed in the corner of the terrace, pa.s.sed out. Therius stood in his place but he felt his chest hurt. He looked down and saw his s.h.i.+rt was slightly burned, and his skin blistered.
"Gosh... you look like you just read a book of HOW TO MAKE A WOMAN HATE YOU and applying all the tips ..." Xion grunted while shaking his head. "Why didn't you bring Aeron to give you advice on how to deal with women? You have already made her mad, and now you also knocked her unconscious. At this rate, you'll be single forever."
Therius raised his face to Xion and sighed. He knew Xion was right, and he just kept making himself look bad in front of the girl. Sadly, he didn't know how else he could make her go home with him to Akkadia.
He then walked over to Emma and checked her condition. His face immediately looked relieved. "She's fine. Just tired."
He lifted her body and carried her in his arms to one of the bedrooms in the penthouse.
"I admit defeat. We will take the man to our s.h.i.+p to give him medical treatment, but I am not sure he can still be saved," Therius said after he put Emma in bed and draped a blanket over her body.
Xion, who was standing in the doorway with his arms crossed, could only sigh.
He remembered Therius's words about the hammered nails and the holes that cannot be reversed even if the nails were removed.
