Richard had no way to stop what was happening. There was only a single thing that he could do and that was to stall for time.

A coc.o.o.n made of darkness covered Linri. It couldn't completely stop this process, but at least it should be able to slow down the process of his body breaking down. There was only a single person in the world that could find a solution to this and she was thousands of miles away. However, that wasn't going to stop Richard from saving the son of his star pupil. Oh man, she really was going to give him an earful for letting this happen in the first place.

"Mary-Ann!"

Richard created a mirror behind him and, from it, a pale girl with a ponytail slowly walked out.

"You called?"

"Quick, there is no time to explain! Create a portal to this house in Albion!" said Richard as he showed her the address.

Mary-Ann did not know what was going on, but she could tell that it certainly had something to do with the coc.o.o.n over there. However, it was not like she could just create a portal out of thin air. Technically she could, but not over that great of a distance.

"You need to make an offering-"

Before Mary-Ann could finish Richard threw her some sort of black pellet before she swallowed it and created the portal. Richard shot the coc.o.o.n through the mirror and then jumped in himself with Mary-Ann following closely behind him.

They were in the living room of Linri's house. All the lights were turned off as it was still night in Albion due to the time zone difference.

"Lyra! Your son is dying!" shouted Richard as he quickly leapt up the stairs and barged into Lyra and Arkady's bedroom.

Lyra was sleeping before she woke up with a headache, unaware of what was going on. Richard did not wait for her to sober up and just teleported both of them to the living room.

"Quick! Your son's bloodlines are acting up! In the school, he forcefully awakened his werewolf bloodline temporarily and now they are destroying his body! Do something!"

"WHAT?!" Lyra saw the coc.o.o.n in her living room and panicked once she heard what Richard said.

"How could you let that happen!?" she shouted at Richard. She had trusted him that he would protect her son. How could he let him do such a dangerous thing!?

"No time to argue, I just temporarily slowed down the process and, if you can not stop it, there is no one in the world that can."

"This... I-" Lyra took a deep breath. Ever since their trip to the Forest of Rundabar, she was afraid that something like this would happen, so she was researching a ritual that might combine Linri's bloodlines instead of eliminating one completely. However, she had not done any sort of testing and it could only work in theory. She was not willing to gamble her son's life away and that was why she hoped Linri would awaken by himself naturally. It seems like there was no any other choice and she had to do it now.

"Get ready to undo the seal when I tell you to," said Lyra. Now that she knew what she was supposed to do, she was extremely calm. There was nothing else she could do and getting emotional in this situation would only lead to her making mistakes.

Lyra's clothes transformed from a nightgown to those of a traditional shrine maiden. A pair of fluffy fox ears appeared on her head and nine tails on her back. This was her true form. Using prana, she started to draw a magic circle around the coc.o.o.n with all sorts of mystical inscriptions. Once she was done, she looked towards Richard and signalled him to undo the seal.

---

Linri woke up in a snowy tundra. He did not remember how he got here. Actually, he could not remember much. He only knew that his name was Linri. Wait, was his name Linri? Then why did he feel such disgust when he uttered that name? It did not feel natural. He felt like that was not his name. It was something else, but why couldn't he remember it?

The icy wind was raging in the frozen landscape, lacerating his skin. It was too cold! He was s.h.i.+vering intensely. He tried to lower his body temperature to match that of the cold before he stopped. How could that even work? No human could lower their body heat, so why did he think that he could? Weird, it was extremely weird!

He could not remember anything prior to waking up in this frozen h.e.l.l. He must be getting crazy... No, calm down. Doubting yourself in this situation wouldn't help in the slightest. First, look at the situation in a logical manner and a.n.a.lyze it.

1- Calm down and discard any unnecessary emotion.

Linri(?) took a deep breath and felt the cold air burning his lungs. Pain was good. It meant his senses weren't still numbed by the cold air, so he shouldn't be suffering from frostbite yet.

2- a.s.sess your situation; look into your environment. Why are you here? Which events lead you to end up in this place?

He was in a snowy tundra. The cold wind was cutting his skin. He couldn't see anything aside from ice and snow and the storm was limiting his vision. He was alone, there wasn't any sign of another living being around him. He did not know why he was here and he couldn't remember anything before ending up in this place. It was extremely cold and, if he wanted to survive, he needed to find a shelter where he could hide from the storm. He didn't have anything on him aside from his clothes and his pockets were empty. He couldn't find anything that might lead to discovering his ident.i.ty on him... aside from one thing. It was a military tag hanging from his neck. It read 'Arkady Harclaw'.

This name also didn't feel familiar to him, but he felt like this necklace held sentimental value for him. It might be from a family relative or a close friend. Maybe he was a soldier and this belonged to one of his fallen friends.

3- a.n.a.lyze everything you know; small conversations, hints, emotions. Everything that got you here.

From the environment it was obvious that he was in the northern hemisphere, probably close to the north pole, or he might be in one of the frozen wastelands of Russia. Actually, this sounded much more plausible than being on one of the poles. The sun did not have that much of an angle, so at least he could rule that out.

Okay, the frozen plains of Russia. Why would I end up here? Let's go with what we know: I have a connection with someone in the military so I might be military personnel myself. But does my allegiance lie with Russia? Debatable. He was speaking perfect English and he did not think he could speak Russian. So what could a perfectly English speaking soldier do in this Russian plains?

Maybe a plane crash? No, he could not see any sort of debris around him, so he could rule that out. It could be that someone had dropped him here, but why? He did not have any supplies on him, so he could not be here for a mission or research purposes. If the person dropped him here to get rid of him, why go through the trouble of leaving him alive? Since they could already bring him here, that meant they had the capacity to kill him if they wanted. Maybe they wanted him to suffer? No, there were more painful ways to get rid of someone. Basically, he could not figure out why he was here.

Since that question was unanswerable he stopped thinking about it and focused on the next important one. Where could he find a shelter in this place? There wasn't any sort of place he could hide under, it was only flat ice plains. He knew that, if you want to survive in a cold environment like this, the thing you need to be most aware of is your body temperature. If you can't keep yourself warm enough, you would suffer from frostbites. The second most important thing was a drinkable source of water. Since everything was covered in ice one would think that it would be easy. You would just need to melt it and drink it, but you would be extremely wrong. First of all, the only way you could melt ice in this place would be your body heat, but then you would be dropping your body temperature, which would be fatal. Secondly, there wasn't anything to burn, so he couldn't use that way to melt it either. Thirdly, even if he did melt it, this kind of ice was at least frozen for decades, if not centuries, so there was a chance that it might be carrying ancient bacteria that his body did not have any immunity towards.
